The Toyota Auris (Japanese: トヨタ・オーリス, Hepburn: Toyota Ōrisu) is a compact car derived from the Corolla, manufactured and sold by Toyota. Introduced in 2006, the first generation three/five-door hatchback shared the platform with the E150 series Corolla, while the second generation five-door hatchback and station wagon called "Touring Sports" uses the E180 platform. The "Auris" name is based on the Latin word for "gold", "aurum".
In Europe, Toyota positioned the Auris as the replacement for the Corolla hatchback, while the saloon version continued with the Corolla nameplate. Starting with the E210 model, the Auris nameplate was discontinued and used the Corolla nameplate instead, except for Taiwan, retained the Auris nameplate for the hatchback version until July 2020.
For the first generation only, the more luxurious Auris was named Toyota Blade (Japanese: トヨタ・ブレイド, Hepburn: Toyota Bureido) in Japan. The Auris succeeded the Allex in Japan and the Corolla RunX. Toyota Australia and Toyota New Zealand resisted suggestions from Toyota Japan to adopt the new European Auris name for the Corolla.
The Japanese model went on sale at Netz dealerships on 23 October 2006, while European models went on sale in early 2007. The second generation was later available at Toyopet Store dealerships from 18 April 2016.

- Summary: The contact owns a 2016 Scion IM. The contact stated while driving 70 MPH, the transmission was skipping the 6th and 7th gears. The contact stated that the failure recurred several times while driving. There was no warning light illuminated. Additionally, the contact stated that while attempting to drive from a complete stop at an intersection, the accelerator pedal was depressed, but the vehicle failed to respond. The contact disconnected the battery for 15 minutes and restarted the vehicle; however, the failure persisted. The contact was able to push the vehicle to the side of the road with assistance. The vehicle was then towed to the parent's residence. The dealer was contacted, and the contact was advised to tow the vehicle to the dealer location. The vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. The manufacturer was not notified of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 85,000. The VIN was not available.

- Summary: The horn on the vehicle began to operate intermittently and now it does not work at all. This is a major safety issue as I have several near misses with other drivers turning into my travel lane without signaling and nearly causing an accident. I have no way of preventing an incursion without the horn being operational. Toyota dealership informed me it was a spiral cable and the cost would be nearly $900.00 to replace. I feel this device should not be prone to failure and be replaced at no cost to me. I have seen where Toyota has had this issue before and recalled to have said spiral cable replaced. I tried Toyota customer care and they told me it was my issue. This is a safety issue and wish Toyota to stand behind their product.

THE NEXT ISSUE I HAVE BEEN HAVING IS THE TRANSMISSION WOULD HESITATE AT STOP LIGHTS. IT ALSO DECELERATED ON ITS OWN WHILE TRAVELING AT 70 MPH DOWN TO A SLOW CRAWL!. TOOK IT INTO THE DEALERSHIP AFTER A SCARY SITUATION ON THE FREEWAY. THE SERVICE REP TOLD ME THAT THERE WAS AN UPDATE TO THE TRANSMISSION SOFTWARE THAT HAD TO BE DONE. AFTER ABOUT 3 HOURS, I WAS TOLD THAT AFTER THE SOFTWARE UPDATE, MY CAR'S TRANSMISSION WAS DESTROYED! I WAS A BIT CONFUSED AS TO WHAT HAPPENED ON A SIMPLE SOFTWARE UPDATE. MY CAR ONLY HAS 32K MILES ON THE ODOMETER. THE SERVICE DEPARTMENT GAVE ME A RENTAL CAR TO GET AROUND IN WHILE MY CAR AWAITS A TRANSMISSION FROM TOYOTA. - Summary: TRANSMISSION BEGAN SLIPPING WHILE ON THE HIGHWAY LESS THAN 25 MILES AFTER SERVICE AT TOYOTA DEALERSHIP. THE CLUTCH THEN DEGRADED OVER LESS THAN 500 MILES TO THE POINT WHERE VEHICLE WAS BARELY DRIVABLE AND DID NOT TRANSMIT ENOUGH POWER TO GO UP HILLS AT ALL. TOYOTA SERVICE TECH TEST DROVE VEHICLE AND VERIFIED CLUTCH IS SLIPPING AND JUST BARELY ENGAGING AT THE TOP OF THE PEDAL TRAVEL. RECOMMENDED REPLACING CLUTCH DISC, PRESSURE PLATE, THROWOUT BEARING, AND RESURFACING FLYWHEEL. TOTAL REPAIR COST WAS QUOTED AT $2,527.36. VEHICLE HAD APPROXIMATELY 43500 MILES ON IT WHEN TRANSMISSION BEGAN SLIPPING. THIS IS EXTREMELY LOW MILEAGE FOR A NEW VEHICLE, ABOUT A YEAR OLD. I'VE SPOKEN WITH THREE OTHER DRIVERS OF THE SAME MODEL, AND THEY REPORTED THEIR CLUTCHES REQUIRED REPLACING BETWEEN 30000 AND 40000 MILES. THEY ALSO AGREED WITH MY OPINION THAT THE CLUTCHES WERE POORLY DESIGNED, CONTRIBUTING TO ACCELERATED WEAR AND TEAR (THE CLUTCH IS EXTREMELY LONG AND HAS A VERY VAGUE BITE POINT). I HAVE FILED A COMPLAINT WITH TOYOTA, AND THEY HAVE YET TO COMPLETE AN INVESTIGATION. I got mine in 2016 and it's still running like new. I absolutely love it! It's reliable, flashy, and has a great interior design, speaker, and air conditioning. Even with my daily city driving, it doesn't cost me much on gas, especially on the highway. It has never failed me, even during winter storms. The only thing I wish for is more comfort, but overall, I have nothing negative to say. I hope they make an AWD SUV version with better suspension and more room at the back. Thanks for listening!

I really enjoy my little IM! It's actually my third scion and I've been a loyal customer for 11 years now. The only downside is that TRD doesn't offer any performance parts for it, and the acceleration could be better.

I purchased my '16 Scion IM in April of '22 from an estate sale. I sold my 2004 Accord since I wanted to try having a newer car and do Uber on the side. The car has been great for me since I left my main job to do Uber full time. It's comfortable enough for four people, gets 600-700 km per tank of gas, and the optional Navigation has gotten me home from places with no cell reception. The Electric storm blue makes the car look more expensive. The only issue I've had was a $40 hood cable and a burned-out headlight, which is really nothing other than normal wear and tear. If you're searching for a sporty compact, this might not be the one for you as the engine is a bit underpowered. However, I chose this car for its reliability. Although, I must admit, I wouldn't mind having an extra 20-30 horsepower now. But, I guess I'll have to wait until it's paid off in 5 years to upgrade to something faster.

Pros: The car is comfortable to drive. Cons: I have noticed that the car is not very quick to accelerate when merging onto the freeway, which can be dangerous. This has made me worry when I have my three children in the back. Additionally, the MPG is not as advertised. While the city MPG is 28 as advertised, I have found that on the freeway it is difficult to get more than 33 MPG.

The tires on the car are very thin and I have had to change all four of them frequently in less than a year of owning it. The bumpers are low and often get stuck in snow or scrape against the ground/curb. The headlights are not very strong, which makes visibility poor. Unfortunately, the car does not have fog lights either. Acceleration is not great, especially when merging onto the highway or passing other drivers. Additionally, the car does not have a CD player, so I am unable to listen to my favorite music. Lastly, the horn sounds a bit unusual, like a woman screaming 'Ayyy-Ayyy'. Unfortunately, there are not many color options to choose from.
