The Jaguar I-Pace (stylised as I-PACE) is a battery-electric crossover SUV produced by Jaguar Land Rover (JLR) under their Jaguar marque. The I-Pace was announced in March 2018, European deliveries began in June 2018 and North American deliveries started in October 2018. Amid slowing sales and a change in corporate vision, Jaguar has announced that the I-Pace will be discontinued by 2025.

Development

The Jaguar I-Pace was designed by Ian Callum. The concept version of the car, described as a five-seater sports car, was unveiled by JLR at the 2016 Los Angeles Motor Show and shown on-road in London in March 2017.

The I-Pace is built by contract manufacturer Magna Steyr in Graz, Austria, and the production version of the I-Pace was revealed in Graz on 1 March 2018.

Some of the electric drive technology has come out of the Jaguar I-Type electric Formula E racing car programme, and the concentric motors were developed by JLR engineer Dr. Alex Michaelides.

Common Jaguar I-pace problems

Based on complaints from owners of the Jaguar I-Pace, common problems with this car include:

  1. Heater Failures: Owners have reported issues with the heater in the Jaguar I-Pace. This problem can lead to discomfort for passengers, especially in cold weather conditions. Heater failures can impact the overall driving experience and may require professional repair to resolve.
  2. Windscreen Leaks: Another common problem with the Jaguar I-Pace is windscreen leaks. This issue can result in water entering the vehicle, potentially causing damage to the interior and affecting visibility while driving. Windscreen leaks need to be addressed promptly to prevent further complications.
  3. 12V Battery Failures: Owners have experienced 12V battery failures in the Jaguar I-Pace. A malfunctioning 12V battery can lead to starting issues, electrical problems, and overall vehicle reliability concerns. Addressing 12V battery failures promptly is crucial to ensure the proper functioning of the car.

These common problems reported by Jaguar I-Pace owners highlight some of the challenges associated with this electric vehicle model. Addressing these issues promptly and seeking professional assistance when needed can help maintain the performance and reliability of the Jaguar I-Pace.

Jaguar I-pace

What is the problem with the I-Pace?

Drivers of Jaguar I-Pace vehicles have revealed their concerns over the electric vehicles appearing to accelerate without warning and suffer brake failures. Several owners have reported terrifying experiences with the luxury £80,000 model in Britain which has seen them crash into houses or drive off car parks.

Why is the Jaguar I-Pace not selling?

Jaguar I-Pace left out of EV revamp

He said the I-Pace will be discontinued before the company's relaunch in 2025 (alongside the rest of its current model range). The company is looking for a fresh start, and the I-Pace will not be included, not even as a bridge vehicle.

Is the Jaguar I-pace dependable?

I-Pace should be the most reliable Jaguar in the range and there's plenty of safety tech. Jaguar hasn't had the best reputation for reliability in recent years, but owners are satisfied with their cars more generally.

How many miles will a Jaguar i-Pace last?

The I-Pace houses a sizeable 90kWh battery but offers range of around 240-250 miles (official WLTP is 255 miles). Consequently, efficiency falls noticeably below the expected lower threshold of 3mi/kWh.

  • Summary: My Jaguar dealer implemented what they said was a H514 interim recall update remedy on my 2019 I-Pace while it was in for other repairs. This remedy action is stated on this web site to "have their maximum state of charge altered to80%". Not less than or more than 80%. My dealer apparently gave a false high temperature signal to the current H441 software in my car and the car tripped to prevent charging > 72%. This brings in a large message on the dash "Traction Battery Fault". Jaguar is apparently taking a shortcut that does not meet their stated response to the NHTSB as to what they will do for the interim update. Truthfulness in Jaguars reporting to the NHTSB is in doubt due to this action.

  • Summary: Inquiry Regarding Safety Recall and Manufacturer Responsability Dear NHTSA, I am seeking your assistance regarding a vehicle I imported from the United States to Iceland. The vehicle, Jaguar i-pace 2019, has been identified as having a defective and dangerous battery, which is part of a safety recall in the U.S. Despite this, the manufacturer’s representative in Iceland refuses to honor the recall or provide a replacement battery, citing that the car is no longer in the U.S. Given the serious safety risks, I would appreciate guidance on what steps I can take or what recourse I have. Is there any possibility to enforce the recall or ensure the manufacturer takes responsibility even outside the U.S.? Thank you for your assistance. All occupants in the car felt the car jolt forward then the fault alarms went off. I was able to continue to drive the car safely and returned home. This is the second time this has happened within the last 30 days. The first time the vehicle bricked on me, it was towed to the Jaguar dealership in Tacoma Washington. There they reset the vehicle defaults disappeared, and it was returned to me. The first time this happened, I was turning into a parking lot and parked in a parking space. At that time the car would not go into park. I turned the vehicle off and turned it back on again. It remained in gear however the vehicle was not moving. It would not let me start it and I was unable to drive it.

I believe there is a fire risk and that the affected vin range of recall H484 was too narrow. • Summary: I own a 2020 Jaguar I-Pace. Last year H441 software update had been installed on my car as per NHTSA guidelines. To reach of the right car started giving me trouble. I was getting loud fan noise. A few days later I got a traction battery fault notification.Since then, the car has not been charging more than 72%. I gave the car to the dealership for service. They informed me that the H441 software had identified a battery fault within the high-voltage battery and is preventing the car from charging greater than 72%. A few days later they informed me that model number 14 in the high-voltage battery pack had a fault and needs to be replaced. As per the H441 recall, Jaguar is supposed to replace the battery free of cost. But the dealership is asking me for 6979.60 USD to replace the model. When I asked them why am being charged the amount when Jaguar is supposed to replace the pack at no cost, they informed me that my car is out of warranty. As per the customer notification letter sent from Jaguar in the past, there is no mention of battery warranty being a part of the H441 recall. Currently my car is stuck at the dealership without any response from Jaguar. Please help me with the situation.

  • Summary: On July 9, 2024, I contacted the Jaguar Columbia dealership in Columbia, South Carolina to schedule an appointment for the recall service. I spoke with Tabor in the service department who told me that Jamie Alexander, the dealership’s shop manager, advised him that Jaguar Columbia is not EV certified and the dealership does not have the equipment to complete the safety recall repair. On that same date, I contacted Jaguar’s Customer Relationship Center (as listed on the safety recall notice) to report the matter and ask for resolution. I was advised that there is an open case with Jaguar’s consumer affairs department that was started on July 1st. I was advised that the Customer relationship center could do nothing to help me because of the existence of this case that Jaguar has open. I have not been contacted by Jaguar regarding the status of the case and when I asked the Jaguar customer center for information to contact the Jaguar consumer affairs department, I was advised that the customer relationship center does not have any contact information for the Jaguar consumer affairs department. I would like to be contacted immediately by Jaguar regarding acceptable resolution.

Latest negative Jaguar I-pace car reviews

  1. Brannon McLaughlin 2025-01-29

    Vehicle year: 2020

Hi there! I leased my I-Pace back in December 2019 and, due to the pandemic, I haven't been able to drive it as much as I would have liked. Unfortunately, I've had a few issues with the car and have had to make a few warranty claims. The car has even had to be towed twice to the dealership due to some important failures. The most recent failure happened over three weeks ago and the car is still at the dealership for repairs. The dealership has informed me that there are some issues with the harness/gearbox and that parts had to be ordered. I've been in touch with Jaguar Corporate by email and phone at least twice a week since the incident, but I haven't received any reply back from them (except for an email indicating my case number). It's been a bit frustrating, especially since I'm paying for an expensive lease for an EV and have had to drive a lower cost, high fuel consumption vehicle that the dealership lent me. Not exactly what I was hoping for, but I'm hopeful that everything will be resolved soon.

  2. Keven Pacocha 2025-01-24

    Vehicle year: 2020

I purchased a 2019 I-Pace because I was looking for a luxury EV. I was impressed with the design and the sales reps at my local dealership. In fact, I was so impressed that I purchased a second vehicle, a F-Type that same week. However, I did experience some issues with the I-Pace within two months of purchase. The car began to shake, not turn on even with a full battery, stall, brakes malfunctioning, and every warning light being illuminated. Despite four separate visits to the service department, Jaguar could not find the problem. They even recommended I lemon law it. It was frustrating to read reviews and discover that even Jaguar had severe concerns that the quality of their vehicles was sub par. To this date, I am still having issues and my lemon law claim is still pending. I hope Jaguar can address these issues and improve their product.

  3. Clement Jenkins 2025-01-15

    Vehicle year: 2022

My 2019 I-Pace had some issues with the battery, which unfortunately led to a fire. Despite my complaints and several visits to the shop, the issue was not resolved. Jaguar International did contact me after the incident, but their response was not helpful. It is important for buyers to be aware of potential battery issues before purchasing a Jaguar. However, I can confidently say that Tesla stands behind their product and addresses any issues promptly.

  1. Maximus Rosenbaum 2025-02-19

    Vehicle year: 2019

I've been driving my IPace for 6 weeks now and I absolutely love it! The power is addictive and the acceleration is smooth and steady, making it faster than anything else out there. Unlike a Tesla, the IPace is truly luxurious, with so much tech that I'm constantly amazed at all it can do. I especially love that it reads incoming text messages to me in a charming British accent, and the phone app works great too. I can even turn on the AC from my iPhone a few minutes before leaving my office, so the car is cool when I enter. Plus, I can unlock or lock the doors using my app, which is super convenient. Everyone wants to look at it, and I've even had a couple of Tesla owners come over to admire it. There are a couple of quirks, like the fact that there's no way to cover the panoramic sunroof, so the car can get pretty hot in the summer. Also, the mileage estimates can be a bit all over the place, but I just keep an eye on the battery percentages, so it's not a big deal. Overall, I'm so happy with my purchase! One piece of advice though, I would recommend skipping the Jaguar recommended EV charger installers, as they never responded to my complaints. Instead, I called a local electrician who was one third the price, and bought a ChargePoint charger on Amazon. I also signed up with my local utility EV rate plan to reduce costs, and now overnight charging is practically free. I absolutely love this car!

Edmunds is mistaken in their review of the regenerative braking system. In 'HIGH REGEN MODE', the system provides instant, powerful braking with smooth, non-jerky, one-pedal driving. It's plain and simple! It would be great if Edmunds could correct this inaccurate aspect of their review of the 2019 I Pace EV400/AWD vehicle. My I PACE performs perfectly, and when driving in ECO mode, I'm averaging a driving range of 224-239 miles. In fact, Jaguar has increased the driving range from 237 miles to 267 miles, with another increase to approximately 297 miles coming in the future. This puts the I PACE at comparative ranges with Tesla. The car has given us no problems and is a dream ride! It's important to once again point out that Edmunds first wrote incorrectly that the braking was 'grabby and jerky' using the regenerative braking system. The test driver had the car dialed in to the wrong setting (LOW) instead of the HIGH setting. When correctly set in the HIGH regen mode, the car is faultless at 'One Pedal Driving'. I'll probably get 100K miles before needing brakes. Still, I LOVE MY I PACE! The styling is unique and a mix of 'muscle' and elegance. People are constantly looking at the car and asking about it. It beats Tesla in many ways: easy to adjust settings without having to adjust Tesla's ONE SCREEN digital touch screen, which is dangerous while trying to make adjustments while staring at the screen and driving (I owned one); the interior trims: leather Reco racing seats; the glass roof doesn't overheat the cab like Tesla, and the handling is tighter than the Tesla on curves, etc. When the lease is up, I'm going to buy out the residual and keep the car.

The I-Pace is a stunning vehicle that offers impressive speed, comfort, and efficiency. Although there were some initial software and hardware issues, Jaguar has since released numerous software fixes, resulting in a nearly flawless car. While there are still a few minor infotainment issues, they do not detract from the overall experience. Driving the I-Pace is a joy, and its sleek design is truly eye-catching. While cold temperatures can reduce the range from 230 to 180 miles, this was not a problem for me as most of my driving is in the city. After 10 months of ownership, I still find myself looking for excuses to take my I-Pace out for a spin.

There's not much more to add to what the previous reviews have said, but I completely agree with them. This is my first electric car as I was waiting for the right one to come along. After months of research, I made the switch and I've never regretted it. It's a beautiful, fast, and awesome car, and it's really cool not having to go to the gas station anymore. It's definitely the best car I've ever owned, and I've owned quite a few.
