Hyundai Venue problems
The Hyundai Venue (Korean: 현대 베뉴) is a subcompact crossover SUV manufactured by the South Korean manufacturer Hyundai. The Venue debuted at the 2019 New York International Auto Show as Hyundai's smallest global crossover, prior to the introduction of other smaller SUVs such as the Casper and Exter.
As of 2023, the Venue is positioned between the Kona or Creta, and above the Exter or Casper in Hyundai's international crossover lineup. It shares its platform with the fifth-generation Accent.
Overview
Two versions of the Venue were developed and produced for different markets. The Korean-made Venue is code named QX or QX1, while the Indian-oriented, internally code named as QXi, is shorter in length and wheelbase than the Korean version.
The Venue is not marketed in Europe in favour of the European-focused, Hyundai i20-based Bayon which was introduced in 2021.

Common Hyundai Venue problems
The Hyundai Venue, a subcompact crossover SUV, has garnered some complaints from owners, particularly for the 2019 and 2020 model years. Here are the common problems based on the search results:
- 2020 Hyundai Venue:
- Transmission failure: There have been concerns about transmission failure at low mileage, although the number of reports is not high enough to conclude it's a widespread issue.
- Annoying Apple CarPlay disconnection: Some owners have experienced issues with the Apple CarPlay feature disconnecting frequently.
- Steering concerns: There is a single report of steering issues, but it's not clear if it's a widespread problem.
These issues are primarily related to the features, engine, and transmission of the Hyundai Venue for the 2019 and 2020 model years. While Hyundai is generally known for its reliability, these specific model years have had some problems that potential buyers should be aware of. It's important to note that these issues may not affect all vehicles and that regular maintenance and care can help prevent some problems.
What problems does Hyundai Venue have?
Hyundai Motor America (Hyundai) is recalling certain 2020-2022 Venue vehicles. In the event of a crash, the front driver-side and/or passenger-side seat belt pretensioners may explode upon deployment.
Is the Hyundai Venue reliable?
The 2024 Hyundai Venue has a predicted reliability score of 85 out of 100. A J.D. Power predicted reliability score of 91-100 is considered the Best, 81-90 is Great, 70-80 is Average and 0-69 is Fair and considered below average.
What is the longevity of a Hyundai Venue?
The Hyundai Venue is predicted to last 150,000-200,000 miles. Thus, high mileage for the vehicle should begin once the car approaches 150,000 miles and passes that point. Any troubles encountered at this point are likely to cost more to get back into good condition than the Hyundai Venue itself is worth.

- Components: VEHICLE SPEED CONTROL,ENGINE,FUEL/PROPULSION SYSTEM
- Summary: Loss of drive power and rough idle. Intermittent no start due to voltage drop. Suspected shorted egr valve causing multiple parts on the same circut to go bad. Brought the car to dealer for the 6th time due to loss of power while driving and rough idle. Asked for a diagnostic of the egr valve due to matching symptoms to the egr recall of the 2024 venue which is the same part number installed in my vehicle. Was informed they can't get it covered under warranty without a code present even if it was faulty. Was sent on my way with a dangerously running car. The egr valve is actuating when not commanded and getting stuck in the opposite position as commanded throwing crankshaft position codes due to being on the same circut and has bèen happeneing since new. My children and my self have almost been in two separate crashes already and if the 2024 hyundai venue egr valve recall is not expanded to include the 2021 there will be fatalities from this issue. - Summary: My 2021 Hyundai venue at or around 43,000 miles, certified pre owned, and bought January 2024 while at a gas station parking lot. Started my vehicle and put it in reverse to leave gas station began smoking, as I put it back in drive to get out of traffic was a loud noise and I immediately stopped turned off the car. Found two parts from my engine on the ground in the parking lot. Was towed to Bentley Hyundai dealership in Huntsville, Al. This happened on [XXX]. On or about 7/29/2024 Bentley Hyundai did a diagnostic and I was told I need an engine replacement, Hyundai approved the engine replacement, and they ordered parts. On or about 8/7/2024 I asked Hyundai for the repair order and on the paper they gave me said the harmonic balancer/crank shaft broke. I spoke to one of the mechanics at Hyundai as I needed to get some personal items out of my car and the gentleman I spoke with said he doesn’t know how this happened that a bolt broke but that bolt was not supposed to break like it did. Said “it was pretty cool to see” . My vehicle still currently sits at Bentley Hyundai until parts come in. My vehicle was purchased at Tameron Hyundai in Hoover, Al. - VIN: KMHRC8A31MU

- Summary: MY 2021 venue had less than 24,000 miles when this problem occurred. i am the original owner and until recently, worked from home. i started having issues when i put the key in the ignition to start my vehicle. none of the dash lights or A/C control would come on. i had to re-try two to three times to get it to work. when i took my vehicle in for regular maintenance and informed my dealership of the issue they did a diagnostic and called me with the results. i was informed there was a problem with the tumbler in the ignition switch and that it would be covered under my warranty; however, the warranty did not cover the re-keying of my entire vehicle. i would have to continue to use my key fob to unlock my doors but would have an additional key to turn on my vehicle. now i have basically two keys to my car. i do not understand why the warranty would not cover the entire re-keying of my vehicle so that the key fob would work on everything. i am the original owner of the vehicle, which i leased in january 2021 (and subsequently purchased in april 2024 when the lease expired). i find this unacceptable.
Hyundai Venue 2023
- Date Of Incident: 2024-06-01
- Date Complaint: 2024-08-07
- VIN: KMHRC8A31PU
- Components: ELECTRICAL SYSTEM,UNKNOWN OR OTHER,FUEL/PROPULSION SYSTEM
- Summary: Since the purchase date, the vehicle has experienced electrical and mechanical issues. Initial problems with the driver-side keyless entry were resolved, but persistent malfunctioning of the passenger window (and at times, other windows) has not been successfully rectified despite multiple repair attempts. Furthermore, during a recent visit to ALM Hyundai for an incident where the engine sputtered and nearly shut off multiple times, the dealership indicated there was no cause for concern. However, I remain apprehensive as this issue could be related to the ongoing electrical and mechanical problems with the vehicle, even without the presence of a check engine light. A recent inspection revealed an oil leak, which was never previously identified or addressed by ALM Hyundai during routine servicing. These unresolved issues raise serious concerns about the vehicle's safety and reliability. Attempts to Resolve: Despite numerous attempts to contact ALM Hyundai's service department and Hyundai corporate customer service, my concerns have not been adequately addressed. Hyundai's proposed solution of paying two car payments in exchange for waiving my rights to warranty or lemon law claims is unacceptable and fails to acknowledge the ongoing issues with the vehicle. I have requested my complete repair history from Hyundai, but the records provided by ALM Hyundai are incomplete. A Carfax report indicates additional service visits that are not reflected in the dealership's paperwork I received upon request. I have since made numerous attempts requesting my repair records and have failed to receive them. I feel as if there is a possible violation of UTPA and my consumer rights at this point.

Hyundai Venue 2021
- Date Of Incident: 2024-06-18
- Date Complaint: 2024-07-03
- VIN: KMHRC8A3XMU
- Components: POWER TRAIN
- Summary: Lost all acceleration and car started bucking while making a a left through oncoming traffic narrowly avoiding getting t boned on passenger side of vehicle with my child on that side of vehicle. No check engine light or codes during or after incident. Even though the car was now not idling correctly. had car towed to dealer for the fifth time and they reprogrammed the transmission for the third time. They called to tell me it was ready for pick up. I refused and asked that they diagnose the issue since it has become dangerous to drive the vehicle. They drove the car looking at live data and discovered the transmission was slipping. And replaced the transmission. Someone is going to get seriously injured in these vehicles if the vehicles computer is unable to warn the driver about a catastrophic power train failure. I have had this car towed five times due to issues which assumably were all due to the failing transmission but were non repeatable at the dealer putting me in danger every time I picked it up.
Hyundai Venue 2022
- Date Of Incident: 2024-06-25
- Date Complaint: 2024-06-25
- VIN: KMHRC8A34NU
- Components: ELECTRICAL SYSTEM
- Summary: When the car is started, the radio screen sometimes stays off. When this happens, the only way to resolve it is to shut off the car, open the door, and then restart the car. This issue occurs randomly, and when it does, there is no rear-view camera available, which poses a significant safety risk. Without the camera, drivers cannot see if there is a child or obstacle behind them, increasing the risk of a serious accident. I have reported this issue to the dealership multiple times, but they dismiss it, claiming it is not a problem unless they witness it themselves. An internet search reveals that this is a widespread issue known to Hyundai, but they are not taking any steps to correct it. This defect could lead to a tragic accident, and I am hoping you can help initiate a recall to address it. The problem seems to occur more frequently in the summer heat. Please help us ensure the safety of others, as it appears the automakers are more concerned with profits than with safety.

- Date Of Incident: 2024-04-07
- Date Complaint: 2024-04-12
- VIN: KMHRB8A31LU
- Components: POWER TRAIN
- Summary: I started noticing what I refer to as a "lurch" when driving. It happened a few times when I was driving around 35mph, so I thought I was imagining it. Then when I was driving on the highway on 4/14, I felt like I could not accelerate. When I looked at the tachometer, it was jumping between 2 to 3, and as it jumped, the car lurched. This past week I have noticed this same feeling of not being able to accelerate and the tachometer jumping multiple times followed by the car lurching forward. It happens almost every time I drive. It sometimes happens after I make a right turn. Yesterday it happened after a left turn and I momentarily couldn't accelerate past 11mph before it lurched. No check engine light is on. I took it to my mechanic and thinks it is my transmission. I am scared I won't be able to accelerate when merging on the highway, or in the middle of an intersection, and that I will be in an accident. I have an appointment to take my car to the dealer on Monday (4/15/24) for them to run diagnostics.

Hyundai Venue 2020
- Date Of Incident: 2024-01-18
- Date Complaint: 2024-01-20
- VIN: KMHRC8A3XLU
- Components: POWER TRAIN
- Summary: I was driving on the highway around 65mph. I saw my RPM gauge going up and down from 2k rpms up to 4k rps and the vehicle was jerking. The car felt like it was going to turn off. The vehicle RPMs spiked all the way to 7k RPMs and the car started to lose power. I was able to get to the shoulder lane by the grace of GOD. I turned the car off for about 5 min. Once I started the car and put it in drive, the car would not move at first even though I pushed the gas pedal all the way to the floor. I was able to get the car to drive slowly to a safe area. I took the car to a Firestone and a Transmission Shop, and both said I was having a Transmission issue and should to the vehicle to the Hyuaindai dealership. This is very unsafe.

I've been a loyal Hyundai owner since 2000 and when I saw the Hyundai Venue, I knew it was going to be my next car. I chose the Denim model and I couldn't be happier with my decision. The car is amazing and the technology is incredible. I learn something new about the car every week. The gas mileage is great for long distance driving (approximately 70 miles a day) and the style is head-turning. The interior is spacious and the ride is smooth. The safety features in the Venue outdo many luxury vehicles I've seen. It's truly a great vehicle at an incredible price. I even had the windows tinted and I get a lot of compliments. You'll love this car! It's the best buy for your money.

I purchased my 2020 Hyundai Venue with 23,323 miles on it and have since put on an additional 11,677 miles. Although I take great care of my car and am meticulous with maintenance, it is currently at the Hyundai Dealership due to a CEL 4th cylinder misfiring. Despite this setback, I remain confident in the quality of my vehicle and trust that the issue will be resolved. While I have experienced some challenges, I still believe that my 2020 Hyundai Venue was a wise investment.

I have the 2021 Venue Essential because I was determined to get a manual car. I've always driven manuals and I love it. However, I have experienced some issues with this car. During my test drive, I noticed a grinding noise when I shift gears, which has been quite loud and persistent. Despite bringing this up with the dealership, they didn't seem to take it seriously at first. After a few months, they did replace the clutch slave cylinder, which has made a slight improvement, but the noise is still present. Additionally, I have had some issues with the front speakers and brakes, but the dealership has been working to address these problems. Overall, I would recommend being cautious when considering this car.

I decided to go with the Tucson instead of the Venue because it had more leg room. Although the Venue is nice, it may be more suitable for shorter individuals. At 5'5'', I found the Tucson to be a better fit for me.

The mid-range venue was purchased new in 2019 and has less than 20,000km's. Unfortunately, it has broken down three times with the same issue and had to be towed back to the dealer. It has been at the dealers for 10 days now waiting for parts. As a result, the vehicle has proven to be unreliable and I am extremely disappointed with it. This experience has led me to decide that I would not purchase another Hyundai.
Charles Kohler 2024-08-24
Vehicle year: 2021
The vehicle has good gas mileage, but it is cheaply made. Unfortunately, the seat belts are not adjustable and can cut into your neck. Additionally, the wiper blades are not very effective and do not provide a clean wipe, even when the vehicle was new. The tires tend to squeal even at low speeds, such as when reversing into a spot or after it rains. Perhaps investing a little more in a higher quality vehicle would be a better choice next time.
