Ford F-650 problems
The medium-duty version of the Ford F-Series is a range of commercial trucks manufactured by Ford Motor Company since 1948. Derived from the smaller F-Series pickup trucks, the medium-duty range is currently in its eighth generation. Initially slotted between the F-Series pickup trucks and the "Big Job" conventionals, later generations were slotted below the L-Series "Louisville" trucks; the last two generations are the largest vehicles produced by Ford since its exit from the heavy-truck segment.
The medium-duty F-Series has been used for an extensive number of applications, offered as a straight (rigid) truck and a truck-tractor (for semitrailers) in multiple cab configurations. Prior to the production of the Ford C-Series, the model line was also offered in a cab-over engine (COE) configuration; a cowled-chassis variant (the Ford B-series) was used for bus production.
For the 2000 model year, the medium-duty F-Series has been branded as part of the Ford Super Duty range, consisting of the Class 6–7 Ford F-650 and F-750; Class 8 versions of the F-750 have been produced since 2011. The current generation of the medium-duty F-Series is manufactured by Ford in its Ohio Assembly facility (Avon Lake, Ohio), replacing a joint venture with Navistar International named Blue Diamond Truck Company LLC located in General Escobedo, Mexico.

Common Ford F-650 problems
Common problems with the Ford F-650 include issues with the catalytic converter, aftermarket items, mass airflow sensor, gas cap, vacuum leaks, and spark plugs or spark plug wires.
A bad or failing catalytic converter can cause the check engine light to turn on, negatively affect fuel economy, and cause the engine to run at higher temperatures. This can lead to other problems due to overheating.
Aftermarket items, such as alarms or exhaust systems, can cause issues if they are not installed correctly. They can drain the battery, trigger the check engine light, or prevent the car from starting.
A faulty mass airflow sensor can cause issues with starting the car, idling roughly, or sudden changes in the position of the throttle pedal. This can be caused by a variety of factors, including age or damage to the sensor.
A loose, damaged, or missing gas cap can cause fuel to evaporate, leading to more frequent trips to the pump and higher costs. It can also cause the check engine light to turn on.
Vacuum leaks can cause the RPM to be high in idle or randomly surge. Over time, vacuum hoses can dry out and crack, particularly if they are exposed to extreme temperatures.
Worn spark plugs or spark plug wires can cause poor performance and reduced power. In some cases, they can cause the engine to have trouble starting or continuing to run. Worn spark plugs and plug wires can also cause damage to other parts of the engine, such as the ignition coils and O2 sensors.
In addition to these common problems, the Ford F-650 has also been subject to recalls for safety concerns. In 2021, select models were recalled due to missing thermal protection components, which could cause the interior cabin floor and seat attachments to reach elevated temperatures during certain driving conditions. This could lead to skin irritation or minor burns.
In 2023, certain models of the Ford F-650 were recalled due to a transmission issue that could prevent the vehicle from being safely shifted into park. This recall affected 5,795 vehicles and could result in unintended movement if the parking brake is not applied, increasing the risk of an accident.
It is important for Ford F-650 owners to be aware of these common problems and take appropriate action to address them. Regular maintenance and inspections can help prevent many of these issues from occurring, and prompt attention to any warning signs or symptoms can help minimize the impact of any problems that do arise.
