Ferrari 612 problems
The Ferrari 612 Scaglietti (Type F137) (Italian pronunciation: ) is an executive 2+2 coupé grand tourer manufactured by Italian automobile manufacturer Ferrari between 2004 and 2010. It was designed to replace the smaller 456; its larger size makes it a true 4 seater with adequate space in the rear seats for adults.
The design, especially the large side scallops and the headlights, pays homage to the 375 MM built in 1954 that director Roberto Rossellini had commissioned for his wife, Ingrid Bergman.
Chassis
The 612 is Ferrari's second all-aluminium vehicle, the first being the 360 Modena. Its space frame, manufactured in collaboration with Alcoa, is made from extrusions and castings of the material, and the aluminium body is then welded on. The chassis of the 612 formed the basis of the 599 GTB flagship grand tourer.

Common Ferrari 612 problems
The Ferrari 612 Scaglietti is a 2+2 grand tourer first introduced in 2004, known for its comfort, performance, and practicality. However, like any vehicle, it has some common problems that owners have reported over the years.
- Failing Instrument Panel: Another common issue is a failing instrument panel, which can malfunction due to problems with the instrument-panel power supply, backlighting power supply, or the dash's motherboard.
- Glitchy F1 Transmission: The 612's F1 transmission can sometimes experience glitches, which can be mechanical or electronic. Mechanical issues may require a reset of the clutch-positioning sensors, while electronic problems may need a software update. These repairs generally fall in the $1,000 range.
- Sticky Switches: Ferrari has yet to resolve the long-running sticky switches problem, where the coating on some interior plastic pieces becomes gooey and starts to rub off on hands and clothing, especially on cars that are stored without being used for long periods. If this problem arises, the plastic bits will need to be refurbished or replaced.
- Brakes and Tires: Scaglietti brakes have proven to be nearly indestructible, but carbon-ceramic brake replacement is expensive, with a full set of pads and rotors costing roughly $25,000. The 612, being a big, heavy car with a powerful engine, has a healthy appetite for tires, with replacement needed every 10,000 miles or so.
- Dashboard Leather and Aluminum Wheels: The dashboard leather can shrink if the car is regularly left in the sun, exposing the underlying foam and metal. The aluminum front wheels are only modestly protected from impacts by their low-profile tires, and thus can be dented or bent by potholes.
In summary, the Ferrari 612 Scaglietti is a capable and comfortable grand tourer, but potential buyers should be aware of these common issues and budget accordingly for maintenance and repairs. Regular specialist care and maintenance are essential to keep the 612 in good condition.
Is the Ferrari 612 reliable?
The mechanical parts are exhaustively developed and beautifully engineered, and we see no reason why they should prove anything other than totally reliable, provided you stick rigidly to the 6000-mile service intervals.
What is the recall on the Ferrari 612 Scaglietti transmission?
In 2008, Ferrari recalled several hundred 2005–2007 Ferrari 612 Scaglietti equipped with the automated manual "F1" transmission because the clutch sensor in the transmission could malfunction due to heat from the vehicle under normal operating conditions.
How many miles per gallon does a Ferrari 612 get?
Its fuel economy measured under the previous test system was 13 mpg. However these figures are less likely to be achievable in real world driving and so should never be compared to another car's mpg which was measured under the newer, more realistic WLTP system.
What problems is Ferrari facing?
Poor reliability and sluggish speed
But what the Scuderia didn't foresee were the reliability issues that blighted Charles Leclerc's Bahrain Grand Prix and which will have a knock-on effect for the remaining 22 races.
