Common Chevrolet Celebrity problems

The Chevrolet Celebrity is a front-drive, mid-size passenger car that was produced from 1982 to 1990. It was based on the GM A platform, which was the first mass-market American mid-size architecture to adopt front-wheel drive.

  • Failed Fuel Pump: The most common problem reported by Chevrolet Celebrity owners is a failed fuel pump, which can cause the engine to stall while driving. This issue is more prevalent in older models, especially those with higher mileage. The fuel pump is responsible for delivering fuel from the gas tank to the engine, and if it fails, the engine will not receive the necessary fuel to operate properly. This can lead to stalling or difficulty starting the car.
  • Drivability Problems: There were drivability problems with the computerized engine control system in 1982 models, which caused issues with the engine's performance and drivability. This issue was related to the engine's computerized system, which controlled various engine functions such as fuel injection and ignition timing. Drivability problems could manifest as rough idling, stalling, or poor acceleration.
  • Deterioration of the Upper Engine Mount: Another common problem reported by Chevrolet Celebrity owners is the deterioration of the upper engine mount, also called a dogbone. This issue caused engine/transaxle vibration, which could be felt by the driver and passengers. The upper engine mount is responsible for connecting the engine to the car's chassis and absorbing engine vibrations. If it deteriorates, it can no longer effectively absorb engine vibrations, leading to a rough and uncomfortable ride.
  • Engine/Transaxle Vibration: In addition to the deterioration of the upper engine mount, some Chevrolet Celebrity owners have reported engine/transaxle vibration. This issue could be caused by various factors, including worn-out engine or transaxle mounts, misaligned drivetrain components, or damaged drive belts. Engine/transaxle vibration can cause discomfort for the driver and passengers and may lead to more severe issues if left unaddressed.
  • Powertrain Issues: The Chevrolet Celebrity was offered with three engines for its 1982 launch: a 90hp 2.5L inline-4, a 110hp 2.8L V6, and a 150hp 4.3L V6. Some owners have reported powertrain issues, including loss of power, poor acceleration, and rough idling. These issues could be caused by various factors, including worn-out spark plugs, clogged fuel injectors, or faulty ignition coils.
  • Electrical Issues: Some Chevrolet Celebrity owners have reported electrical issues, including malfunctioning lights, blown fuses, and dead batteries. These issues could be caused by various factors, including faulty wiring, blown fuses, or a malfunctioning alternator.

In conclusion, the Chevrolet Celebrity has had several common problems based on complaints from owners. These issues include failed fuel pumps, drivability problems, engine/transaxle vibration, powertrain issues, and electrical problems. While these issues can be frustrating for owners, they can often be addressed with proper maintenance and repair.

    Vehicle year: 1990

Your car has been amazing! It has been 15 years and it has never let you down. You bought it because it had a reputation for reliability and it has definitely lived up to that reputation. Although it is getting old and some parts are starting to fail, such as the driver door strike plate (which was repaired two years ago) and the turn signal return switch (which is still broken), it still starts on the first try and takes you wherever you want to go. As you prepare to retire this champion, you are hopeful that its replacement will serve you just as well.
