The fifth generation of the BMW 3 Series range of compact executive cars is designated under the model codes E90 (saloon), E91 (estate, marketed as 'Touring'), E92 (coupé) and E93 (convertible). The model was introduced in December 2004, and produced by BMW until October 2013 and is often collectively referred to as the E90 or E9x.

The E9x saw the introduction of run-flat tyres to the 3 Series range. Models with run-flat tires are not equipped with a spare tyre. The E92 335i was the first 3 Series model produced with a turbocharged petrol engine. It was also the first 3 Series to include the iDrive operating system, which consists of navigation, infotainment and essential vehicle functions.

The E90/E92/E93 M3 is the only generation of M3 to be powered by a V8 engine. Introduced in 2007, it uses the BMW S65 naturally aspirated V8 engine and was produced in saloon, coupé and convertible body styles.

Following the introduction of the F30/F31 3 Series in February 2012, the E90/E91 saloons and estates were phased out. However due to their later introduction, the E92/E93 coupés and convertibles remained in production through the 2013 model year, after which they were replaced by the F32/F33 4 Series models.

One of the most common issues with the 2008 BMW 335i is faulty serpentine belts, which can break and cause the engine to overheat. This problem can be costly to repair, and it can lead to significant engine damage if not addressed promptly.

Another common problem with the 2008 BMW 335i is engine overheating, which can occur even when the cooling system is working correctly. This issue can be caused by various factors, including a faulty thermostat, a malfunctioning water pump, or a damaged radiator. In some cases, engine overheating can lead to engine failure, which can be a costly repair.

The cooling system in the 2008 BMW 335i also has several problems, including leaks and the use of coolant even without seal problems. These issues can cause the engine to overheat, which can lead to engine failure if not addressed promptly.

The electrical system in the 2008 BMW 335i is another area of concern, with sporadic electrical problems that can cause the car to ignite. This issue is particularly prevalent in the 2007 model, but it can also occur in other model years.

The high-pressure fuel pump (HPFP) is another common problem area in the 2008 BMW 335i. When there's a problem with the HPFP, the engine may experience slow start, decreased performance, and a check engine light signal. Replacing the HPFP can be expensive, with labor costs driving up the price.

The wastegate rattle is another issue with the twin-turbo N54 engine in the 2008 BMW 335i. This problem can cause rattling noises, loss of power, and smoke from the exhaust. Preventive maintenance is essential to combat this issue, and it's recommended to go easy on the car to prevent further damage.

In summary, the 2008 BMW 335i has several common problems that can be costly to repair. These issues include faulty serpentine belts, engine overheating, cooling system problems, electrical problems, HPFP issues, and wastegate rattle.
