Nissan Nv3500 problems
The Nissan NV (Nissan Van) is a full-size van produced by Nissan from 2011 to 2021. It was developed and marketed for the United States and Canada, where Nissan had not previously been present in the full-size segment. Until the introduction of the Nissan NV, Mexico was the only country in North America selling a full-size Nissan van, as the Nissan Urvan was sold there.
The NV nameplate was previously used by a small pickup truck sold in Thailand.
Development
The NV used the same F-Alpha platform as does the Nissan Titan full-size pickup, but due to the need for a flat loading floor it is highly modified and they end up sharing mainly powertrain pieces and some of the design language. The NV was also only available with rear-wheel drive, coupled to a five-speed automatic transmission (later also a seven-speed). The NV was not targeted directly at the (mainly fleet) buyers of the Ford E-Series and Chevrolet Express, but rather at private buyers including contractors and small business owners who are looking for a vehicle that is both capable and comfortable.
The 4.0-litre V6 engine outputs 261 hp (195 kW) and 281 lb⋅ft (381 N⋅m) of torque, while the 5.6-litre V8 engine outputs 375 hp (280 kW) and 387 lb⋅ft (525 N⋅m) of torque. The V8-engined versions are also electronically limited to a top speed of 100 mph (161 km/h).

Common Nissan Nv3500 problems
The Nissan NV3500 is a commercial van that has been in production since 2011, and while it is known for its versatility and ruggedness, there are some common problems that have been reported by owners.
One of the most common issues with the NV3500 is transmission problems. According to reports, the transmission can have trouble shifting gears, especially when the vehicle is hot or under heavy loads. This issue can cause the engine to rev up to 4000 RPM before shifting, which can be frustrating and potentially damaging to the engine. In some cases, the issue has been reported to occur even in brand new vehicles, such as a 2017 NV-P 3500 SL.
Another common issue with the NV3500 is leaks. According to reports, the vehicle can have trouble with leaks, particularly in the power steering system and the fuel system. This can lead to a loss of power steering fluid or fuel, which can cause the vehicle to lose power or handle poorly. In some cases, the leaks can be difficult to diagnose and repair, which can lead to higher repair costs.
The NV3500 has also been reported to have issues with the braking system. According to reports, the vehicle can have trouble with the brake system, particularly in the brake lines and the brake calipers. This can lead to a loss of braking power, which can be dangerous, especially in emergency situations. In some cases, the brake system issues have been reported to occur even in low-mileage vehicles, which can be frustrating for owners.
Another issue that has been reported with the NV3500 is electrical problems. According to reports, the vehicle can have trouble with the electrical system, particularly in the battery and the alternator. This can lead to a loss of power, which can be frustrating and potentially damaging to the vehicle. In some cases, the electrical problems have been reported to occur even in newer vehicles, which can be a sign of a larger issue with the electrical system.
Finally, the NV3500 has been reported to have a lack of cargo space. While the vehicle is designed to be a commercial van, some owners have reported that the cargo space is not as large as they had expected. This can be frustrating for owners who need to transport large items, as they may need to use a separate vehicle or make multiple trips to transport their cargo.
In summary, the Nissan NV3500 is a commercial van that has been reported to have several common problems, including transmission issues, leaks, brake system problems, electrical issues, and a lack of cargo space. While the vehicle is known for its ruggedness and versatility, these issues can be frustrating for owners and can potentially lead to higher repair costs.
How reliable is the Nissan NV 3500?
The probability of a repair being a severe or major issue is 17% for the Nissan NV3500, compared to an average of 16% for commercial vans and 12% for all vehicle models. The average total annual cost for unscheduled repairs and maintenance across all model years of a vehicle.
How many miles will a Nissan NV 3500 last?
These engines and transmissions are very low maintenance, very few issues, and last about 300k miles. Biggest issue is fuel consumption, very poor gas mileage for excessive travel.
Why did Nissan stop making NV3500?
The decision to stop production comes as Nissan shared that sales did not reach market share goals. Enterprise Fleet Management recommends that clients using these impacted Nissan models work to place orders to meet Nissan's deadline or to consider other comparable vehicle options.

- Date Of Incident: 2023-07-02
- Date Complaint: 2023-07-03
- VIN: 5BZBF0AA7KN
- Components: POWER TRAIN
- Summary: I was on my way back from Michigan, heading toward Utah, and around Chicago the transmission started giving me issues. I was informed by a transmission company that I would be able to make it out to Utah, but we only made it to South Dakota and the transmission was blown. I had to pay $500 in towing to a transmission shop. The transmission shop informed me that the transmission is in fact blown and it will cost $6400 to replace. I also had a quote from a Nissan dealership for around $6600. The car has under 37,000 miles but is out of warranty because it is a rebuilt title. I purchased this vehicle about 2 months ago and have driven it around 8,000 miles since. I have had regular maintenance and upkeep on the vehicle, above and beyond, as I was not sure of the previous owners care. Owners, regardless of warranty or title status, have reported similar transmission problems. This suggests an inherent issue with the 2019 NV3500. Considering the safety risks and financial burden faced by owners, I request an investigation and recall program covering inspections, repairs, or replacements.

- Date Complaint: 2022-01-27
- VIN: 5bzaf0aa4dn
- Components: AIR BAGS
- Summary: My wife stoped on the side of the road to talk with my son who was sitting in the front passenger seat. When my wife shut the door behind him all of the side curtain airbags deployed on the passenger side of the van. Three of my other children were inside the van when the bags depoyed. The two youngest 10, and 11, were sitting in the middle and were not hit with the bags. The oldest 14 was sittning next to the wall and was hit by the bags. There was no accident or impact that would have set the airbags off except the shutting of the front passenger door. The van is currently at Mossy Nissan in Houston TX and availible for inspection. We have filed with Nissan Corperate and they are opening an investigation. No warning lamps were present except a check engine light and low tire air pressure. Mossy nissan has supposedly ran a diagnostics on the van but have not told us the results. We are not confident that the dealership will be honest and forthcoming with information. When we brought the vehicle in we were met with skeptisism that we were being honest. Comments were overheard by my wife that were not appropriate to the situation.
