1990 Nissan Axxess problems
The Nissan Prairie (Japanese: 日産・プレーリー, Hepburn: Nissan Purērī) is an automobile manufactured and marketed by Nissan from 1981 to 2004. Considered a mini MPV or a compact MPV. It was also marketed as the Multi in Canada and the Stanza Wagon in the United States. In Japan, it was exclusive to Nissan Bluebird Store locations, then later at Nissan Blue Stage sales channels. The Prairie had a very flexible seating capability and sliding rear doors on both sides of the vehicle, with a liftgate in the back. The name "prairie" was derived from French which means an extensive area of relatively flat grassland, similar to "steppe" or "savanna".
The second generation was marketed as the Nissan Axxess in North America, and replaced there by the larger Nissan/Ford joint venture called the Nissan Quest, and in Europe it was partially replaced by the Nissan Serena.
When the third generation of this vehicle was introduced in Japan, it was renamed initially Prairie Liberty, with the "Prairie" name eventually dropped in November 1998. This vehicle was replaced with the Nissan Lafesta in 2004.

Common 1990 Nissan Axxess problems
The Nissan Axxess, also known as the Nissan Prairie, was a compact MPV produced by Nissan from 1981 to 2004. However, it also had some common problems that affected its reliability and user experience.
1. Transition between 2WD and 4WD:
One of the most common complaints about the Nissan Axxess was the transition between two-wheel drive (2WD) and four-wheel drive (4WD). The vehicle's computer-controlled system was not as smooth as some users would have liked, causing discomfort and inconvenience during the switch.
2. Door locks:
Another issue that affected the Axxess was the door locks. Some users reported that the door locks were prone to failure, causing difficulties in opening and closing the doors.
3. Anti-pollution plumbing:
The Axxess also had issues with its anti-pollution plumbing under the hood. Some users reported leaks and other problems with this system, which could affect the vehicle's performance and fuel efficiency.
4. Diagnostic computer:
The diagnostic computer in the Axxess was also a source of frustration for some users. The computer was located in a difficult-to-reach area, making it challenging to diagnose and repair problems with the vehicle.
5. Rust:
Rust was another common problem that affected the Nissan Axxess. Some users reported that the vehicle was prone to rust, particularly in areas such as the strut towers, which could affect the vehicle's handling and safety.
Despite these issues, the Nissan Axxess had some positive features that made it a popular choice for many users. These included sliding doors on both sides, excellent turning radius, and a spacious interior that could accommodate a lot of cargo. However, the common problems mentioned above could affect the vehicle's reliability and user experience, making it essential for potential buyers to be aware of these issues before making a purchase.
How reliable is a Nissan Armada?
The Nissan Armada scores 74 for reliability, which is “average.” The Armada is considered reliable by owners that I've known. Nissan always made excellent body on frame SUVs and trucks; it's just that they don't have the “brand power” that Toyota has.
What is a Nissan Axxess?
The Axxess replaces the now defunct Stanza wagon and is sandwiched between minivans and compact station wagons in size and utility.
Is Nissan better than Toyota?
When comparing Nissan vs Toyota's reliability, Toyota was ranked by Consumer Reports as the second most reliable out of all car brands for 2021. Nissan ranked a lot lower in sixteenth place. Toyota's are known to be very reliable, lasting their owners decades with few significant problems.
Are Nissan cars long lasting?
Do Nissan cars last long? The Nissan Altima scores high in reliability ratings, lasting anywhere from 250,000 to 300,000 miles, depending on how you care for it. Most Nissan models match these numbers, though one Nissan owner drove his 2007 Frontier 1 million miles after buying it new.

Hi there! I hope you're doing well. I just wanted to share my experience with this amazing car that I bought brand new from the dealership back in December 1999. It has been on some incredible road trips, from MN to NY and back three times! The gas mileage is great and it's so comfortable to ride in. Even my teenage boys love it and say that it has a lot of get up and go for a 4 cylinder minivan. I've only had to take it to the shop three times in all the years I've owned it, mainly for exhaust pipe and tail pipe burn throughs. The most recent issue is that the mileage counter has stopped working, but after 169,000 miles, I don't think that's too bad. I just love this car! It reminds me of that battery bunny advertisement - it keeps going, and going, and going...

Your Nissan Axxess sounds like an amazing car! It's great to hear that it gets such good gas mileage (25 to 34 mpg) and has so many wonderful features. It's impressive that it has survived so many car wrecks, including rolling over and head-on collisions, and even being hit by a semi! It's a testament to the great build quality and reliability of Nissan cars. Overall, it sounds like you made a great choice with your Nissan Axxess and I'm sure it will continue to serve you well for many years to come. Thanks for sharing your positive experience with us!

I really enjoyed everything about it, but unfortunately, they no longer produce them.

I've owned this car new off the lot, and it has been nothing but reliable and wonderful. I did not have to start making repairs until it was 11 years old. I would highly recommend it for a family car...we have been EVERYWHERE in this car.

I'm so glad to hear that you've had such a positive experience with your car! It's great to know that the design has held up so well and that it's still so practical and reliable after all these years.

I hope you're doing well! I just wanted to share my experience with my Axess. I bought it 4 years ago and it's still running strong at 112,000 miles! I recently replaced the original struts and it's as comfortable as ever on long trips. I also love the excellent visibility all around. Thanks for listening!

Hi there! I've had this car for quite a while now and unfortunately, over the past few years, I've had a few issues with it. The alternator, timing chain guides, auto seat belts, rack and pinion, drive shafts, fuel injectors, A/C head unit, and low limit switch have all needed attention. It's been a bit of a hassle, but I'm hoping to get everything sorted soon!
