The Mercedes-Benz EQE (V295) is a battery electric executive car produced by German automobile manufacturer Mercedes-Benz Group. It is part of the Mercedes-Benz EQ family, and was presented at the Munich Motor Show 2021. The only model available at launch has been the rear-motor EQE 350. Its engine has a peak power of 215 kW (288 hp), and it has a range of up to 660 km (410 mi). More variants are said to follow later, including a 4Matic AWD dual-motor setup with a peak engine power output of up to 500 kW (671 hp). The U.S. will get one version simply called the Mercedes AMG EQE which is the same 617-hp EQE 53 4matic+ seen in Europe.

In February 2022, the high-performance Mercedes-AMG EQE 43 & 53 4MATIC+ versions were unveiled. Changes include power bumps of up to 687 PS (505 kW; 678 hp), 1,000 N⋅m (738 lb⋅ft) of torque, upgraded internals and AMG touches inside and out.

In March 2022, the EQE 350 4MATIC and EQE 500 4MATIC were unveiled. In July 2022, the cheaper EQE 300 version was unveiled.

Common Mercedes-benz Eqe problems

Mercedes-Benz EQE owners have reported several common problems with their cars based on complaints from owners. One of the most significant issues is a software bug that could cause sudden power loss in the EQS and EQE electric vehicles. This issue has led to the recall of 8,281 electric vehicles in the U.S., including the EQS sedan, EQS SUV, and EQE. The software bug could deactivate the electric drivetrain, causing the vehicle to lose power and increasing the risk of a crash. Mercedes suggests that the issue may be precipitated by contact with a specific plug connector within the electric drivetrain. Unfortunately, the driver will not receive any warning prior to the failure, but after the issue occurs, they will see multiple messages in the instrument cluster.

Another common problem reported by Mercedes-Benz EQE owners is a risk of loss of power due to a software issue in the electric drive module. This issue has led to the recall of 2,324 imported EQS vehicles in China with production dates ranging from June 14, 2021, to July 8, 2022. Mercedes-Benz will update the electric drive module software for the recalled vehicles through authorized dealers, free of charge, to eliminate the potential safety hazard.

Additionally, some Mercedes-Benz EQE owners have reported problems with the battery management system's software, leading to the recall of 1,051 imported EQS vehicles with production dates between June 14, 2021, and February 16, 2022. Mercedes-Benz will update the software of the battery management system free of charge for the recalled vehicles through authorized dealers.

Lastly, some imported S-Class vehicles with production dates between July 29, 2020, and September 8, 2021, have been recalled due to a software problem with the voltage converter of the auxiliary on-board electrical system. This issue may affect the function of the anti-lock braking system (ABS) and Electronic stability control (ESC) in these vehicles. Mercedes-Benz will update the auxiliary on-board electrical system voltage converter software for the recalled vehicles free of charge.

In summary, Mercedes-Benz EQE owners have reported several common problems with their cars, including a software bug that could cause sudden power loss, a risk of loss of power due to a software issue in the electric drive module, problems with the battery management system's software, and a software problem with the voltage converter of the auxiliary on-board electrical system. These issues have led to recalls and software updates to ensure the safety and functionality of the affected vehicles.

  • Components: VEHICLE SPEED CONTROL,SERVICE BRAKES
  • Summary: September 8th, 2024 @ approximately 3pm My Mercedes EQE 350+ accelerated to a high speed when the front tire touched a curb. The car ran over the curb and into the parking lot. I was able to steer the car but the brakes didn't work. The car kept going through a stop sign and into the intersection. Luckily there were no cars in the intersection and I finally thought to turn the car off. It then stopped. The whole rubber covering over the battery was destroyed from the rocks on the curb. The battery was severely damaged also. The car was at the dealership from Friday Sept 13th until around Oct 9th. They finished their testing and sent the info to corporate Mercedes on Wed Sept. 18th. I finally heard back from Mercedes corporate on Oct 3rd, 2024. They said that they didn't find any malfunctions. During this waiting period I was pressured by the Mercedes dealership to file an Insurance Claim. I said I wasn't filing a claim until I heard back from Mercedes Corporate. There have been several cases online where the same issue has occurred by other Mercedes owners. One was almost exactly the same as mine. The only difference was that the car stopped when the tires were flattened. I have been driving for 50 years and have never experienced anything like this. My nephew was in the car with me and I repeatedly said to him the brakes aren't working. The car was a write off. I had to file an insurance claim.

  • Summary: On several occasions the vehicle aggressively stopped and jerked as if someone hit my car from behind. I took it to the dealership and they thought it was a software malfunction issue, since there were recalls on the vehicle. I received my car back from the dealership and in a week of receiving my car, the issue happened twice. This has been extremely scary especially because on two occasions a car almost hit me in the back and both times my son was in the car. The car has done this where there were not any cars around and the car falsely believes there is a car around a collision will occur. Today , the car did it twice. The first was while I was taking my son to school going slowly. The second time this happened was while I was stopped at a red light. The dashboard then had a red triangle with an exclamation mark inside. Every time the car stops it caused my neck and back to hurt and I am afraid a car will actually hit me from behind.

  • Summary: At 0820 AM on Monday, 23 SEP 24 while traveling South on interstate 95/495 in rush hour traffic the vehicle lost complete power and 3-4 messages appeared in the display. I recall one saying the rear differential is inoperable. I turned on the emergency flashers and was fortunate to allow the car to coast to the highway’s left shoulder without causing an accident. I don’t remember the other warnings as I was preoccupied trying to get the car safely off the highway. I was able to restart the vehicle after allowing it to sit for a minute or two. I have an appointment to have it inspected on Thursday at Mercedes of Annapolis, MD. This is the second time the vehicle has lost power while traveling on the beltway. A recall was eventually issued a few weeks after the first incident. I convinced my wife to purchase this vehicle to replace her 20 year old car thinking it would provide safe, reliable transportation. To the contrary the car has had to be towed twice, has lost power on the highway and was in the shop almost a month for a noise complaint. I was told the noise issue was due to 3 bad tires, likely due to potholes, and charged $1741 to replace them. I am totally convinced the issue was not related to potholes but had no recourse other than to pay the $1741. My wife feels totally unsafe driving the car, particularly when I am out of town for work.

  • Summary: On Mon, [XXX], my father was involved in a single car accident in the family's Mercedes-Bens EQE 350 (all electric) vehicle. When he was in driveway, he claims he was on the brake when the car suddenly accelerated on its own. It destroyed the garage door and then went through the garage destroying property, the attic staircase, and the frame of an interior wall into a bedroom. We have pictures of the damage. Emergency repairs were required to stabilize the frame of the house with more 2x4s. The insurance company says he likely confused the brake and gas pedals, but he's convinced that he was on the brake when it suddenly accelerated on its own. Importantly, no auto-emergency braking occurred, no airbag deployed, and no other emergency systems engaged. We received no indication that the system reported an accident. I was able to source an online forum where individuals recounted identical fact patterns about being on the brake and the Mercedes EQ vehicle accelerating dangerously on its own. We believe that the issue was a electrical computer malfunction and yes, the car is available for inspection. It is currently being repaired at a collision shop in Edison, NJ. I have sent a general service request to Mercedes Benz to encourage an inspection from them. The problem has not yet been sourced or reproduced and no warning lamps or messages appeared prior, during, or after the accident. Here's the MB electric vehicle community message board describing similar accounts [XXX] I am messaging to initiate a safety report about this vehicle since this issue could potentially cause a fatality if not properly addressed. • Summary: There have been 3 instances of the same incident of the Automatic Emergency Breaking system failing, the 3 times has happened over the 8 months I have owned the car. Mercedes has aknowledged the failure of the automatic breaking system but they do not have any fixes for it. When I am driving, if the safety system senses a police radar system a car may have installed (like an old school one on a civilian's car dashboard) the car's security system "shuts down" for a couple seconds and slams on the breaks nearly causing a crash. I have been driving at 15-20 MPH on a clear street and out of nowhere the car slams on the breaks because it detects someone's radar detector. As you can imagine, this is absolutley terrifying to be driving on a clear street and have the car slam on it's breaks. My heart rate goes up, I have been visibly shaken up. The feeling is as if I got into a car accident-but I didn't it was self-induced by the vehicle. I am worried if someone is driving behind me and is not prepared for the car to break, I will be rear-ended. Please help Mercedes owners fix this, it's horrible.

  • Summary: On [XXX], my wife was driving to a local business here in Las Vegas, NV. Upon her arrival she proceeded to pull into a parking spot she slowed down to pull into the parking spot keeping her foot on the brake at all times when she reached the parking block she firmly pressed the brake to place the vehicle in park. While her foot is still on the brake the vehicle took off at a high rate of speed causing the vehicle to jump the parking block onto the sidewalk where pedestrians walk. The car continued accelerating while her foot was on the brake burning rubber on the sidewalk and the high acceleration caused her to hit the wall of the building. The car came to a stop after hitting the wall, no airbag deployed no warning lights came on the dash went totally out and the seatbelt did not work properly it did not keep her restrained to the seat on impact. Due to the malfunction of the vehicle and its safety equipment my Wife has suffered a concussion, bruising to her chest and breast area as well as strain to her hips. Not to mention the mental trauma she will suffer from for the rest of her life. No inspection has been done as of yet and truthfully I don't think they're too eager to do one and even when they do is it going to be fair and true or down played to protect themselves and their pockets. She proceeded to pull into a parking spot with her foot on the brake pulling up to the parking block. She never took her foot off the brake preparing to stop once she reached the parking block. Once she reached the parking block she applied the brakes firmly to bring the car to a stop, however, the car took off at a high rate of speed. The car then jumped over the parking block onto the sidewalk my wife continued to apply the brakes but they did not work the car tires kept spinning and eventually caused her to hit the wall of the building. At the time of the incident no warning lights came on the dash because everything went blank, no airbag deployed, no messages came on the car nor did it send any messages to me alerting me that my vehicle was involved in a accident. Due to this vehicle malfunctioning my wife has suffered a concussion, bruises to her breast and chest area and she also has a strain to her hips due to the seat belt malfunction. The seatbelt did not work properly it did not keep her restrained to the seat as designed. The building was of course damaged as a result of this vehicle malfunction. My wife unfortunately has suffered mental and bodily issues she has been traumatized due to this vehicle malfunction she has voiced over and over how this experience has affected her she also has repeatedly stated how this event took place and how it now makes her not ever want to ride in this car or any other electric car ever again. • Summary: THIS IS A SUDDEN ACCELATION INCIDENT in reverse with a brake incident. On January 11, 2024 shortly after 12:00 p.m., I was leaving my home and reversing out of my garage. As the tail of the car went slightly beyond the garage door, it stopped abruptly as if detecting something in the path of the car behind it. As I was looking at the rear camera to see why it stopped and what was in the path and contemplating whether I should get out and go see in person (as I did not clearly see anything in the rear camera) the car started moving again at what felt like a high-speed, backwards as I was still in reverse. I tried to brake but the brakes did not work. So, I started turning so as not to go directly into the home of the neighbor across the street. I turned sharply enough that the car went diagonally into my next-door neighbor's yard to the left of our home. The car continued to move in reverse and I kept steering to avoid the car hitting my neighbor's home. The car hit and knocked over the neighbor's in-ground basketball on the opposite side of the driveway. I believe the car slowed a bit after that impact but kept going in reverse heading back into the street in front of my home. Still steering and hitting the brakes, I remember the car spinning in the street and then had somewhat of an elliptical pattern and was headed back across the yard to my same neighbors home but hit the parkway tree in front of my home and stopped with that impact. Believe electrical failure. Brakes didn't work. Airbag did not deploy. Many sudden acceleration cases end in injury and death. Thankful no children out since middle of day. MBUSA (only) is investigating. Attempted independent review but told that unable because of proprietary software. 5 weeks in and no response to investigation status.

The 2023 EQE has a very nice interior, but its electrical system (batteries, motors, charging system) lags behind others. The MB salesman told me that his 2023 EQE loaner had a range of 280 miles when new, but dropped to below 240 miles after a year of use.
