Mercedes-benz Amg gle43 problems

mercedes-benz logo

The Mercedes-Benz GLE, formerly Mercedes-Benz M-Class (designated with the "ML" nomenclature), is a mid-size luxury SUV produced by the German manufacturer Mercedes-Benz since 1997. In terms of size, it is slotted in between the smaller GLC and the larger GLS, the latter with which it shares platforms.

The first-generation M-Class, designated with the model code W163, is a body-on-frame SUV and was produced until 2004. For a short time, between 1999 and 2002, the W163 M-Class was also built by Magna Steyr in Graz, Austria, for the European market, before all production moved to the U.S. plant near Vance, Alabama. The second-generation M-Class (W164) moved to a unibody platform while sharing most components with the GL-Class, which sports a longer body to accommodate third-row seating.

Since April 2015, the M-Class has been renamed to the GLE with the release of the facelifted W166 model, in an effort to harmonize Mercedes-Benz SUV nameplates by aligning it with the E-Class.

Common Mercedes-benz Amg gle43 problems

The Mercedes-Benz AMG GLE43 has been subject to several recalls due to various issues that have affected its performance and safety. One of the most significant recalls concerns a software conflict between the engine and transmission control units, which can cause the engine to shut down unexpectedly while braking or accelerating following an ECO start. This issue, which affects approximately 12,300 vehicles from the 2016-2017 model years, could increase the risk of a crash, as the driver would need to manually restart the engine.

Another recall affecting the AMG GLE43 is related to water accumulation in the spare tire wheel well, which can damage the fuel pump control unit and cause the engine to stall while driving. This issue affects various Mercedes-Benz models, including the ML550, ML350, ML63, ML250, ML400, GLE450, GLE300, GLE350, GLE550, GLE400, AMG GLE43, and AMG GLE63, from model years 2012 to 2020. Dealers will install a water drain plug, inspect for water intrusion, and replace the fuel pump control unit as necessary, free of charge, to address this issue.

In addition to these recalls, the AMG GLE43 has faced concerns regarding the bonding of the front roof panel located between the windshield and the panoramic sunroof. If not bonded correctly, the front panel may detach from the vehicle, posing a risk to occupants. This issue affects various Mercedes-Benz models, including the C-Class, CLA, GLA, S-Class, GLC, and GLE, from model years 2014 to 2020. Dealers will replace the front panel, free of charge, to address this issue.

Mercedes-Benz provides comprehensive coverage for the AMG GLE-class, with four years or 50,000 miles of protection for the limited warranty and powertrain warranty. However, competitors such as Audi and Volvo offer better corrosion coverage and no mileage cap on their four years of roadside assistance.

In summary, the Mercedes-Benz AMG GLE43 has faced several recalls and issues related to software conflicts, fuel pump control unit damage, and improper bonding of the front roof panel. While Mercedes-Benz provides comprehensive coverage for the AMG GLE-class, competitors offer better corrosion coverage and roadside assistance. Potential buyers should be aware of these issues and consider the available warranty and maintenance coverage when making their purchase decision.
