Mazda Cx-90 problems

The Mazda CX-90 is a full-size crossover SUV with three-row seating produced by the Japanese automaker Mazda. It is the second vehicle to use Mazda's rear- and all-wheel drive with longitudinal engine layout categorized as Large Product Group after the CX-60. The largest Mazda SUV to date, the CX-90 replaced the CX-9.
A version with two-row seating, while retaining the same bodywork, body length and engine options is marketed as the Mazda CX-70. The CX-70 was introduced in January 2024, featuring minor styling differences compared to the CX-90.
Overview
The CX-90 was revealed on 31 January 2023, for the North American market, while a release in the Australian and Middle Eastern markets occurred later during 2023. The CX-90 is available with a choice of six, seven, or eight seat configurations. The CX-70, the two-row variant with five seats, was revealed on 30 January 2024 in North America. The CX-70 differs from the CX-90 by its front and rear bumper designs, black exterior accents replacing chrome, unique wheel designs, and differing interior colour scheme options.
With the use of the rear-wheel-drive-biased large vehicle platform, the CX-90 and CX-70 are placed into the brand's internal "Large Product Group" category. According to Mazda, the CX-90 addresses many of the weaknesses of the CX-9 such as its small interior space.
The CX-90 and CX-70 are also equipped with the Kinematic Posture Control technology, a feature originally developed for the 2022 MX-5 Miata and also present in the similar CX-60. The software suppresses the vehicle's body lift during cornering to improve stability and traction, helping occupants maintain a natural posture.
The CX-9 was discontinued in North America, replaced by the CX-90 and CX-70. Like its predecessor, the CX-90 will not be sold in Japan (despite being built there) or Europe.

Common Mazda Cx-90 problems
The 2024 Mazda CX-90 has been experiencing various issues, as reported by owners and car enthusiasts. One of the most common problems is related to error messages, including the warning light for low washer fluid. This issue has been reported by multiple owners, and it seems to occur intermittently without any discernible pattern. While it may not be a significant problem, it is still not normal, especially for Mazda, which is known for its high-quality vehicles.
Another issue that has been reported is related to the steering system. Mazda has issued a recall for 43,752 CX-90s due to a problem with the steering gear assembly. The issue is caused by a worn gear that may result in a sudden increase in effort when steering, which could potentially lead to safety concerns. The recall requires dealers to replace the spring engaging the worm gear and reapply grease to the gear teeth, free of charge.
The CX-90 has also been experiencing software problems, as reported by owners on Reddit. These issues include seatbelt unbuckled alerts that take a long time to stop firing, constant weather alerts, and radar visibility warnings that can be distracting. While these may not be major issues, they can still be annoying and affect the overall driving experience.
In addition to these issues, the CX-90 has also been recalled for problems with its plug-in hybrid variants, which could experience a loss in power. The recall affected over 4,000 vehicles, and Mazda issued a fix to modify the teeth of the wheel. However, it was later discovered that the improved parts were also suffering from the same issue, leading to a second fix that required reducing the spring force applied to the worm gear.
While the Mazda CX-90 has been experiencing these issues, it is important to note that Mazda is known for making high-quality vehicles, and these problems may be minor in the grand scheme of things. However, it is still essential for owners to be aware of these issues and take necessary precautions, such as bringing their vehicles to dealers for repairs.
What are the problems with the Mazda CX-90?

That “sudden loss of power steering assist” could increase the risk of a crash, the NHTSA reported. The issue surrounds lubrication of the worm gear in the steering assembly.
Are Mazda CX90 reliable?
We expect the 2024 CX-90 to be more reliable than other new cars. This prediction is based on limited data from the CX-90, plus the Mazda brand scores.

I am thrilled with our new 2024 CX-90, which replaced our destroyed 2018 CX-9 Signature with Auburn Leather interior. I was lucky enough to buy one of the first ones in GA on Mar 31st, '23. I've driven 1,300 miles in the two months I've owned it, including both sporty driving and a long 200-mile road trip at 60-80mph the whole way. I'm getting 25mpg combined and 29.5mpg on the highway! I want to be completely honest about my likes and dislikes:LIKES: 1. This 3.3L Inline6 turbo and new 8spd auto tranny are amazing! Powerful and smooth, with 340hp with Premium gas. However, owners can choose to fill with Regular and power only drops to 319hp, with no change in the 369lb-ft torque! 2. The large glass pano roof is fantastic and should have been on the later CX-9s too. 3. At the top trims ($59K+), the Tan or white interiors are stunning (at lower trims, I would have wanted the Either way, the wood in this brown CX-90 looks fake and the interior wood in my CX-9 Signature was much nicer. Additionally, the rear window glass doesn't roll all the way down into the door. I understand that it may not be possible to fit a large piece of glass into a small space due to the rear wheel well, but at $66,000 including tax, it should disappear completely. Otherwise, charge me $40,000 for this CX-90 so I don't feel bad when I roll down the rear window and it feels like I am in a KIA Minivan because my window stops 3/4 of the way down. These small dislikes are very minor compared to the great driving experience and this hot new Inline6 turbo motor! I smile every time I drive it fast and every time I gas up and see that I got 25, 26, or 27mpg on that tank while my neighbors are getting 16-19 in their 6 and 7 seaters. Thank you, Mazda!

As someone who has always been a Toyota fan, I was initially set on buying the Grand Highlander max hybrid. However, after months of searching, I found that the limited availability and added accessories made the cost over $3-4k more than the MSRP. That's when I stumbled upon Mazda and their 3 row SUV, which I didn't even know existed, let alone a PHEV. I test drove the CX-90 PHEV and was blown away. The interior and exterior are much nicer and more luxurious than the Grand Highlander max. Plus, the CX-90 PHEV has an all-electric mode range of up to 25-26 miles, which is perfect for my short trips around the city. I've had the CX-90 for over a month now and haven't had to stop at a gas station once. I just plug it in every night and the battery is fully charged by morning. The driving experience is the best part of this sporty 3 row SUV. When you put it in sports mode, it becomes a different beast. The steering is so intuitive and you feel really planted to the road, especially on curvy roads. And with 323 HP, this SUV hybrid PHEV is not to be underestimated. I test drove a Tesla Y extended range, which was nice, but the interior and exterior design were too plain for my liking. I needed more interior room for my needs, and Mazda blew me away with their design. If you're looking to save $7500 off the MSRP of the CX90 PHEV, I highly recommend leasing. Overall, I'm extremely happy with my decision to test drive the CX90 and ultimately purchase it.

I recently sold my Lincoln Corsair GT due to a recall on the engine fires. Unfortunately, the wait for a solution was too long. I then decided to look for a new car and placed an order for the 2023 Cadillac XT4 Sport. However, after waiting for two months, the dealer had not even placed the order with the factory due to allocations. It was a terrible experience. Eventually, I turned to Mazda and found the CX-90 PHEV in Artisan Red with white interior. The interior is stunning and the red paint is incredible, changing colors based on light and curves in the design. I absolutely love it! The ride is super quiet due to the double pane glass and the gas mileage includes 28 miles of EV miles, which covers most of my daily trips. I'm getting an eMPG of 76, which is incredible. I only need to fill up maybe three times a year. The car has been superb since we moved and were able to load up a lot by lowering all the seats. In my opinion, it's better than a pickup truck. I have been really impressed with the Mazda sales process. The sales reps are not paid commission but straight salary, which makes them less desperate than some car sales reps. They are more like Tesla in their behavior. The sales process was great and stress-free. After getting the car, I researched Mazda's history and focus on engineering. Mazda uses much thicker steel when creating the car, and their paint process is well known as unique in the industry due to the levels of paint they do. I am really impressed with their plug-in hybrid technology, which I believe is helped by their Toyota relationship (Toyota owns 10% of Mazda and Mazda uses Toyota Finance). I'm quite impressed with Toyota since they lead the world in hybrid technology and was glad to find out about their relationship with Mazda.

We recently had to replace my wife's 17-year-old RX 400h, and after cross-shopping multiple brands, we found the CX 90 PHEV to be the perfect fit for us. In our opinion, the Kia that Edmunds rated slightly higher than the CX 90 is only a better option if you need to haul a soccer team or prioritize touch screens over stopping distances, gas mileage, insurance costs, and quality. The CX 90 PHEV is not only a spacious hauler but also a driver's car with excellent handling and a tight turning radius. We were pleasantly surprised to discover that it has a mid-engine design, with both the gas engine and electric motor located behind the front axle. The combination of better handling, braking, quality, a gorgeous interior with firm seats, and radically superior fuel economy made it the perfect choice for us, even if it meant sacrificing a few extra cubic feet of space. We also recommend checking insurance rates in your area, as Kia/Hyundai models are still being targeted by thieves and have higher insurance rates. The CX 90 PHEV can tow 3500 lbs and run electric for all of our local driving, making it a unique option in our area. In our opinion, Mazda is no longer a direct competitor to Kia, Honda, Hyundai, or Toyota, as they offer near BMW performance with Lexus-like quality at lower prices than traditional luxury brands. We highly recommend considering this model.

I recently leased the new CX90 and it's a stunning car that always turns heads. My family and I find it incredibly comfortable to ride in. However, I have experienced a few issues with it. Shortly after getting it, I noticed a noise when accelerating and later on, the car seemed to get stuck in first gear when making a turn. I took it to the dealer for service and they believe it's a transmission issue that requires an update. While it's not ideal to have problems with a new car, I'm hopeful that the issue will be resolved soon. Thank you for your attention to this matter.

Hi there! I've been the proud owner of the CX90 PHEV for 2 months and 10 days now. Recently, I noticed that when I charge the car to 100%, the battery only has a range of 19 miles instead of the initial 26 miles. I took the car to Gunther Mazda Ft. Lauderdale and they explained that the electric range can fluctuate between 16-26 miles depending on various factors such as temperature, driving pattern, and load on the car. While I understand that these factors can affect the range, I was hoping for a more consistent charging experience. I have reached out to Mazda of North America and am waiting for their response to help clarify and resolve this issue. I believe that the car should charge to 26 miles +/- 1 or 2 miles, as advertised, to ensure a reliable driving experience. Thank you for your attention to this matter!

I was really looking forward to renting one of these cars, as I drive around 30 different cars per year. While the car drove fine with 6240 miles on it, I did notice some issues with the build quality. The gear shift knob rattled, the hood appeared to be skewed to one side, and the gas fill cover felt like a flimsy piece of plastic. It took me a few minutes to figure out that the car had to be turned off before the cover would release, which was a bit inconvenient given that I rented the car in NW Iowa during a bitterly cold day with a 25 mph wind. Turning off the car made for a chilly reentry. Despite these issues, I still have a soft spot for the Cx5. However, I do feel that the CX 90 could use some improvements in terms of build quality.

I hope you're doing well! I just wanted to share my thoughts on the different vehicles I test drove. I found that the turbo premium plus version of the vehicle drove beautifully and had a nice interior, but it was quite expensive at over $53,000. On the other hand, the Kia Telluride with similar features was just over $40K and was bigger, while the Kia Sportage Hybrid was also priced at $40K. I hope this information is helpful to you!
