Mazda Cx-90 problems
The Mazda CX-90 is a full-size crossover SUV with three-row seating produced by the Japanese automaker Mazda. It is the second vehicle to use Mazda's rear- and all-wheel drive with longitudinal engine layout categorized as Large Product Group after the CX-60. The largest Mazda SUV to date, the CX-90 replaced the CX-9.
A version with two-row seating, while retaining the same bodywork, body length and engine options is marketed as the Mazda CX-70. The CX-70 was introduced in January 2024, featuring minor styling differences compared to the CX-90.
Overview
The CX-90 was revealed on 31 January 2023, for the North American market, while a release in the Australian and Middle Eastern markets occurred later during 2023. The CX-90 is available with a choice of six, seven, or eight seat configurations. The CX-70, the two-row variant with five seats, was revealed on 30 January 2024 in North America. The CX-70 differs from the CX-90 by its front and rear bumper designs, black exterior accents replacing chrome, unique wheel designs, and differing interior colour scheme options.
With the use of the rear-wheel-drive-biased large vehicle platform, the CX-90 and CX-70 are placed into the brand's internal "Large Product Group" category. According to Mazda, the CX-90 addresses many of the weaknesses of the CX-9 such as its small interior space.
The CX-90 and CX-70 are also equipped with the Kinematic Posture Control technology, a feature originally developed for the 2022 MX-5 Miata and also present in the similar CX-60. The software suppresses the vehicle's body lift during cornering to improve stability and traction, helping occupants maintain a natural posture.
The CX-9 was discontinued in North America, replaced by the CX-90 and CX-70. Like its predecessor, the CX-90 will not be sold in Japan (despite being built there) or Europe.

Common Mazda Cx-90 problems
The 2024 Mazda CX-90 has been experiencing various issues, as reported by owners and car enthusiasts. One of the most common problems is related to error messages, including the warning light for low washer fluid. This issue has been reported by multiple owners, and it seems to occur intermittently without any discernible pattern. While it may not be a significant problem, it is still not normal, especially for Mazda, which is known for its high-quality vehicles.
Another issue that has been reported is related to the steering system. Mazda has issued a recall for 43,752 CX-90s due to a problem with the steering gear assembly. The issue is caused by a worn gear that may result in a sudden increase in effort when steering, which could potentially lead to safety concerns. The recall requires dealers to replace the spring engaging the worm gear and reapply grease to the gear teeth, free of charge.
The CX-90 has also been experiencing software problems, as reported by owners on Reddit. These issues include seatbelt unbuckled alerts that take a long time to stop firing, constant weather alerts, and radar visibility warnings that can be distracting. While these may not be major issues, they can still be annoying and affect the overall driving experience.
In addition to these issues, the CX-90 has also been recalled for problems with its plug-in hybrid variants, which could experience a loss in power. The recall affected over 4,000 vehicles, and Mazda issued a fix to modify the teeth of the wheel. However, it was later discovered that the improved parts were also suffering from the same issue, leading to a second fix that required reducing the spring force applied to the worm gear.
While the Mazda CX-90 has been experiencing these issues, it is important to note that Mazda is known for making high-quality vehicles, and these problems may be minor in the grand scheme of things. However, it is still essential for owners to be aware of these issues and take necessary precautions, such as bringing their vehicles to dealers for repairs.

We have the Turbo S Premium Plus model and we absolutely love it! The vehicle feels like it is made of high-quality materials, unlike some other manufacturers that use cheap materials. The panel gaps are near perfect, which is a testament to the attention to detail put into the car. The engine is incredibly smooth, powerful, and efficient. While it will run on regular fuel, we highly recommend using premium for the best performance. The ride is quiet and comfortable, making it a pleasure to drive.

I test drove many 2 and 3 row SUVS and just loved the CX90. It is quick, comfortable, and very good looking. The fit and finish is stellar, with lots of soft surfaces that give the interior a high-class feel. Although the infotainment system has lots of features, it is not very intuitive to set up. However, with daily use, I hope it will become easier. Overall, I think Mazda hit a home run with this one!

This is a best-in-class vehicle. It drives great and has features that SUVs costing tens of thousands more don't have. Great job, Mazda!

I recently test drove the Mazda CX-90 as I was in need of a replacement for my 2016 Acura MDX. Although I had originally intended to purchase a Honda Pilot, the lack of an on/off button for the audio was a deal breaker for me. Luckily, the 2017 MDXs had already arrived and I was able to get a great deal on a 2016 model. As someone who had never owned a luxury vehicle before and never intended to, I was pleasantly surprised by the amount of effort Mazda put into the aesthetics and engineering of the CX-90. The driving feel was great and the vehicle looked awesome. My requirements were a 7-seater with safety features, including a back-up sensor. While I loved the CX-90, it unfortunately did not have a back-up sensor and the higher trims with the sensor all came with middle row captains chairs, which did not work for me. The third row seats were not large enough, leaving me with a 4-passenger vehicle that did not meet my needs. Although the interior storage space was limited, I would have purchased the higher model with a back-up sensor if it had bench seating so I could at least fit 5 people in the car. The top line model was more expensive than a base Porsche Macan, which has the same seating, and more expensive than the base MDX, which is a spacious 7-seater. I hope Mazda will consider putting all safety features on all trims in the future, as safety should not be a luxury. For now, I have put my money into the Toyota Grand Highlander.

Hi there! I've been the proud owner of the CX90 PHEV for 2 months and 10 days now. Recently, I noticed that when I charge the car to 100%, the battery only has a range of 19 miles instead of the initial 26 miles. I took the car to Gunther Mazda Ft. Lauderdale and they explained that the electric range can fluctuate between 16-26 miles depending on various factors such as temperature, driving pattern, and load on the car. While I understand that these factors can affect the range, I was hoping for a more consistent charging experience. I have reached out to Mazda of North America and am waiting for their response to help clarify and resolve this issue. I believe that the car should charge to 26 miles +/- 1 or 2 miles, as advertised, to ensure a reliable driving experience. Thank you for your attention to this matter!

I was really looking forward to renting one of these cars, as I drive around 30 different cars per year. While the car drove fine with 6240 miles on it, I did notice some issues with the build quality. The gear shift knob rattled, the hood appeared to be skewed to one side, and the gas fill cover felt like a flimsy piece of plastic. It took me a few minutes to figure out that the car had to be turned off before the cover would release, which was a bit inconvenient given that I rented the car in NW Iowa during a bitterly cold day with a 25 mph wind. Turning off the car made for a chilly reentry. Despite these issues, I still have a soft spot for the Cx5. However, I do feel that the CX 90 could use some improvements in terms of build quality.

I hope you're doing well! I just wanted to share my thoughts on the different vehicles I test drove. I found that the turbo premium plus version of the vehicle drove beautifully and had a nice interior, but it was quite expensive at over $53,000. On the other hand, the Kia Telluride with similar features was just over $40K and was bigger, while the Kia Sportage Hybrid was also priced at $40K. I hope this information is helpful to you!

This car is a safety hazard and should be recalled immediately. I experienced a dangerous incident where the car decelerated from 65mph to zero within seconds, leaving me stranded on the freeway. Despite being given a loaner car, the same issue occurred again, with sudden deceleration on the freeway. This experience was extremely frightening and I have lost all confidence in Mazda. We are currently in the process of working with them to receive a refund.

Hello, I purchased a CX90 Preferred Plus last July 2023. Unfortunately, I damaged the underneath by hitting something while driving, which damaged the hybrid battery. Thankfully, my insurance covered the repair cost. However, the problem is that the dealership doesn't have any hybrid batteries available, and my SUV has been sitting in their parking lot since October 2023. I am disappointed about this situation. I have a question: if you don't have the necessary parts available, why sell the car to the customer? Accidents can happen to anyone at any time. I would appreciate it if someone from Mazda customer care could help me fix my SUV and get the hybrid battery as soon as possible. Thank you for your time and attention.
