Infiniti G25 problems

infiniti logo

The Infiniti G Line is a series of compact executive cars manufactured and marketed by Infiniti, a luxury division of Nissan, for the 1991–1996 and 1999–2016 model years — across four generations.

The first two generations of the Infiniti G (P10 and P11) were sedans based on the Nissan Primera. Beginning with its third generation (V35), the Infiniti G have been rebadged versions of the Nissan Skyline line of sedans and coupes that were exported to the United States and Canada. The fourth generation (V36) introduced the hardtop coupe convertible. The Nissan FM platform, used with the third and fourth generations (V35 and V36) of the Infiniti G, also underpins the Nissan 370Z and has shared components with the Infiniti M, Infiniti EX, and Infiniti FX.

Infiniti established a new naming convention beginning with the 2014 model year; all passenger cars are designated by the letter "Q," while sport-utility model names begin with "QX." The Infiniti G was to have been replaced by the Infiniti Q50, but the G37 was revived as the Q40 beginning with the 2015 model year.

Common Infiniti G25 problems

The Infiniti G25 is a luxury car that has been known to experience a range of issues, including engine problems, transmission issues, electrical malfunctions, and suspension and steering problems.

One common issue with the Infiniti G25 is engine misfires. Engine misfires can be caused by a variety of factors, including faulty spark plugs, ignition coils, or fuel injectors. When an engine misfires, it can cause a rough idle, decreased fuel efficiency, and reduced engine performance. If left unaddressed, engine misfires can lead to more serious engine problems, such as engine damage or even engine failure.

Another common issue with the Infiniti G25 is oil consumption. Some owners of the G25 have reported that their car consumes more oil than expected, which can lead to increased maintenance costs and potential engine damage if not addressed. Oil consumption can be caused by a variety of factors, including worn piston rings, cylinder walls, or valve guides. If you notice that your G25 is consuming more oil than usual, it is recommended to have it inspected by a qualified mechanic.

Transmission problems are also common in the Infiniti G25. Some owners have reported issues with transmission shifting, including delayed shifting, rough shifting, and even complete transmission failure. Transmission problems can be caused by a range of issues, including low transmission fluid levels, a failing transmission control module, or damaged transmission gears. If you experience any issues with your vehicle's transmission, it is recommended to have it inspected by a qualified mechanic.

Electrical problems are another common issue with the Infiniti G25. Some owners have reported issues with the vehicle's lighting, such as headlights, tail lights, or interior lights, as well as issues with the vehicle's infotainment system, such as the radio or navigation system. Electrical problems can be caused by a range of issues, including faulty wiring, blown fuses, or malfunctioning electrical components. If you experience any issues with your vehicle's electrical system, it is recommended to have it inspected by a qualified mechanic.

Suspension and steering problems are also common in the Infiniti G25. Some owners have reported issues with steering wheel vibrations, suspension noise, and power steering pump failure. Suspension and steering problems can be caused by a range of issues, including worn suspension components, damaged power steering components, or malfunctioning steering system components. If you experience any issues with your vehicle's suspension or steering, it is recommended to have it inspected by a qualified mechanic.

In conclusion, the Infiniti G25 is a luxury car that comes with its fair share of issues, ranging from engine misfires to transmission problems and electrical malfunctions. It is essential for owners of this vehicle to be aware of these common issues and take proactive steps to maintain their car's health. Regular maintenance, including oil changes, timing chain inspections, and transmission fluid checks, can go a long way in preventing significant engine and transmission issues. Additionally, ensuring the electrical system is in good working condition and keeping the battery and alternator in good condition can prevent problems with power and electronics. When it comes to suspension and steering issues, steering wheel vibrations, suspension noise, and power steering pump failure are all common issues that should be addressed promptly to avoid further damage to the vehicle. Overall, being aware of these issues and taking preventative measures can go a long way in ensuring the Infiniti G25 remains a reliable and enjoyable luxury vehicle to own and drive.

  • Date Of Incident: 2024-02-14
  • Date Complaint: 2024-02-26
  • VIN: JN1DV6AR1BM
  • Components: AIR BAGS
  • Summary: The supplemental air bag warning light came on the dashboard. My local mechanic coded it at B1018, occupant sensor failure. At his suggestion, I brought it to a Nissan dealership (Infiniti is over an hour away from where I live.). They indicated I need to replace both seat sensor and OCS module. They say the seat must be replaced. Checking the Internet, there is a recent recall for Infiniti air bag problems. I contend that if that same system was used in 2011, a recall of that year should exist. In addition, there are many similar issues reported on the Internet.

  • Date Of Incident: 2024-01-17
  • Date Complaint: 2024-01-17
  • VIN: JN1DV6AP0BM
  • Components: STEERING,ELECTRICAL SYSTEM
  • Summary: While car was in operation, Intelligent Key System warning light came on (yellow "KEY" light). After turning off car engine, car will no longer start up. Key fob locks and unlocks doors, but car will not start. Prior to this incident there were no indications of a problem, no wornings. Upon investigation and research, the issue is related to a "Steering Lock Failure", and is widely known for years by other owners, repair shops, and Nissan and Infiniti. Nissan has addressed the issue by recalling and repairing the failure, however Infiniti has ignored the issue even though it is the same part (and same company). Infiniti must be made to repair the failure, as Nissan has done.

  • Summary: While enrooted to work my vehicle just shut off unexpectedly. I had the vehicle towed to nearest mechanic shop and they could not find out why my vehicle stopped, then the vehicle started back up and I drove the vehicle home. A few days later on my way to work again, my vehicle would not start at all. I had AAA come out to try and start the vehicle thinking that it was a dead battery, but I was told that the battery was in good shape. A few days later my vehicle started once again, so I took it to another mechanic shop and was informed that it was possibly the key fob, then the vehicles onboard computer. They proceeded to troubleshoot the vehicle thinking that this maybe the issue, then the vehicle would not start once again. It was not any of the issues that they thought. The vehicle was taken to the dealership to find out what was going on for sure. I was then informed that it was possibly the steering wheel lockbox since the dashboard yellow key light is lighting up as well, and that this is a known issue for sure with the 2011 Infiniti G25 and Nissan vehicles. They informed me that the cost would be well over $1500; this is funds that I do not have. I have been stranded while driving stranded on the road multiple times. This is unacceptable for sure.

  • Summary: I was having gas mileage issues and had an engine light come on one day. I checked it for it to come up with mass air flow sensor code. I had them replaced. Once I replaced them I noticed I still had the light and mileage issues. I did some research and found out you need to reprogram the sensors at a dealership after replacement. I scheduled an appointment at Infiniti of Akron and they reprogrammed them. I left and a couple hours of driving later the acceleration is worse and mileage is bad. The engine light comes back on. I call back they check my ECU and said I was missing an update. They couldn’t do the update due to their systems being down at the time and told me they would call me when they were ready. I left to head home. I hopped on the highway towards my house. After about 10 minutes of driving my car begins to slow down to a complete halt and stalls right in rush hour traffic. I had no where to safely pull over. There was no shoulder available due to construction. I immediately called 911 to assist me to get an emergency tow. I eventually ended up being rear ended by a car. A fire lieutenant stayed with me for about 2 hours to ensure I was safe until the tow showed. This was a terrifying incident and should be noted. People need to be warned their is an intake volume learn problem with the ECU of these vehicle. People could be killed. I was lucky.

  • Date Complaint: 2021-07-02
  • Fire: 1
  • VIN: JN1DV6AP8CM
  • Components: ELECTRICAL SYSTEM
  • Summary: Last Friday, 7/25/21, while driving home from work, my car instrument panel, speed odometer, everything went totally black, I lost steering and pulled into a 7-11 parking lot. The passenger side of the car was smoking. I was locked in as door unlock wouldn’t work, nothing would work. I was unable to turn the car off and literally felt like I could pass out from smoke inhalation quickly called 911. People in the parking lot were trying to unlock my door to get me out of the vehicle. The fire department arrived and after a few minutes were able to get me out, but the car would not turn off. They forced the hood open and had to cut the cables to the battery to turn it off. It was terrifying!!! I can’t imagine what would have happened if I had been on the Turnpike or major Highway, I’m sure I would have crashed the vehicle. I had the car towed to Shamrock Automotive who advised that the PCF module Wiring harness had literally caught on fire. Currently it would cost over $8K to fix the car and it’s not worth more than $9k.

  • Date Of Incident: 2018-02-19
  • Date Complaint: 2018-02-24
  • VIN: JN1DV6AP5BM
  • Components: STEERING
  • Summary: AFTER NORMAL USE, AND WITH NO WARNING INDICATIONS, THE VEHICLE FAILED TO START AFTER BEING PARKED. IT WAS OBSERVED THAT THE STEERING WHEEL FAILED TO LOCK, AND THE INTELLIGENT KEY INDICATOR ILLUMINATED FROM THE DASH WHEN THE PUSH-BUTTON IGNITION WAS PRESSED. ACCORDING TO THE 2011 INFINITI G OWNER'S MANUAL, WHEN THE INTELLIGENT KEY INDICATOR LIGHT APPEARS, IT INDICATES A MALFUNCTION WITH THE ELECTRICAL STEERING LOCK SYSTEM OR THE INTELLIGENT KEY SYSTEM INDICATOR. THE VEHICLE HAD TO BE TOWED TO THE INFINITI DEALER, AND THE DEFECTIVE STEERING LOCK HAD TO BE REPLACED, IN ORDER TO RETURN THE VEHICLE BACK INTO AN OPERABLE STATE. THIS MECHANICAL DEFECT POSES A SAFETY RISK TO UNEXPECTED VEHICLE OWNERS, AS IT COULD LEAVE THEM IMMOBILE IN INSECURE SURROUNDINGS, AND PREVENT THEM FROM REACHING IMMEDIATE HELP WHEN THREATENED OR HARASSED, AND IN THE EVENT OF EMERGENCIES, MEDICAL CONDITIONS OR ADVERSE WEATHER CONDITIONS. WHAT IS MORE DISTURBING, IS THAT INFINITI IS AWARE OF THE STEERING LOCK DEFECT. THIS IS EVIDENT FROM THE NUMEROUS COMPLAINTS OF INFINITI OWNERS, PUBLISHED ON THE NHTSA WEBSITE, CONSUMER ADVOCACY WEBSITES, ONLINE FORUMS, MESSAGE BOARDS, AND SOCIAL NETWORKS. IN ADDITION, NISSAN (INFINITI'S PARENT COMPANY) ADDRESSED THIS PROBLEM WITH A VOLUNTARY SERVICE CAMPAIGN ON SPECIFIC MY2009-10 NISSAN ALTIMA, ALTIMA COUPE, ALTIMA HYBRID, AND MAXIMA VEHICLES, WITH THE REPLACEMENT OF THE EXISTING ELECTRONIC STEERING COLUMN LOCK (ESCL) WITH AN ELECTRONIC STEERING COLUMN BOX (ESCB). HOWEVER, INFINITI (THE LUXURY DIVISION OF NISSAN) HAS REFUSED TO TAKE OWNERSHIP OF THIS KNOWN DEFECT WITH THEIR STEERING LOCK AND WILL NOT MAKE CORRECTIVE ACTIONS ON THE BEHALF OF THEIR CUSTOMERS TO ENSURE THE QUALITY AND SAFETY OF THEIR PRODUCT.

THE WATER FLOWS FROM SUNROOF DRAINAGE TUBES THAT CONTINUE TO BE BLOCKED WHEN IT RAINS. I HAD THEM REPLACED IN JUNE 2016 WHEN THE CAR WAS UNDER WARRANTY AND THEY ARE BROKEN AGAIN. THE CAR IS NO LONGER UNDER WARRANTY AND IT COST $1665 TO REPLACE PLUS I PAID $150 AT THE DEALERSHIP FOR THE INSPECTION.
