Gmc P30 problems
The Chevrolet Step-Van (and its badge-engineered counterpart, the GMC Value-Van) is a multi-stop truck made by General Motors from 1940 to 1998.
Dubl-Duti
The first generation of General Motors multi-stop delivery van was called the Dubl-Duti, introduced in 1940. The van was built on the 115-inch (2,921 mm) chassis of the Chevrolet pickup truck, with a body built by Divco Twin. The Dubl-Duti van used the same 216.5-cubic-inch (3.5 L) "Thriftmaster" six-cylinder engine as the pickup and Chevrolet passenger cars, but with a single-barrel updraft Carter carburetor rather than the downdraft Rochester unit used in other Chevrolet trucks.
The Dubl-Duti was restyled in 1941 to suit the new Chevrolet AK Series truck body. Despite the "Advance Design" trucks being released in calendar year 1947 as a 1948 model, the AK Series-based Dubl-Duti continued production for another year thereafter.
A new generation of Dubl-Duti was introduced for model year 1949, with two different wheelbases shared with the medium-duty Advance Design pickup trucks: the model 3742 with 125+1⁄4-inch (3,181 mm) wheelbase, and 137-inch (3,480 mm) log model 3942 . The "Thriftmaster" engine was carried over for the 1949 and 1950 model years, and replaced for 1951 by the 235.5-cubic-inch (3.9 L) "Loadmaster" engine. The Dubl-Duti ceased production in 1955.

Common Gmc P30 problems
The GMC P30, like many older vehicles, has encountered a few common issues over time. Here are some of the most frequently reported problems by owners and a detailed explanation for each:
- Braking System Problems: The braking system in the GMC P30 may exhibit issues such as abnormal noise upon pressing the brake pedal, high brake fluid temperatures, or sluggish operation. These problems can be potentially due to a damaged hydraulic hose, which is critical for safety.
- Cooling System Issues: Another problem area in the GMC P30 is the cooling system. Owners have reported issues like oil leakage beneath the engine, oil entering the cooling system and vice versa, leading to overheating and blown fuses. Checking the oil cooler, engine oil cooler, and fan shroud might solve these issues.
- Airbag Failure: Some GMC P30 models may have airbags inside the coil spring, which can cause problems when they go bad. A solution for this issue is to replace them with airbags that never need to be pumped up with air.
- Transmission Problems: The GMC P30 may experience transmission issues, such as difficulty shifting or slipping gears. These problems may require a transmission flush or replacement of worn-out parts.
- Fuel System Issues: The fuel system in the GMC P30 may have issues with after-market fuel systems, leading to problems such as hard starting or stalling. Suggested solutions for these problems include replacing faulty fuel pumps or fuel filters.
- Steering System Problems: The steering system in the GMC P30 may have issues with power steering leaks or worn-out power steering components, leading to difficulty steering or a squealing noise when turning the steering wheel.
- Suspension Problems: The GMC P30 may experience suspension issues, such as worn-out bushings or damaged springs, leading to a rough ride or instability when driving.
It's important to note that these issues may vary depending on the age, mileage, and usage of the vehicle. Regular maintenance and using OEM parts can help prevent these issues and keep the GMC P30 at peak performance.
