The Ford Freestyle is a crossover utility vehicle that was sold by Ford from 2005 to 2009. Largely marketed as the successor to the Ford Taurus station wagon, the Freestyle was the CUV counterpart of the Ford Five Hundred and Mercury Montego four-door sedans. Sharing the Ford D3 platform with the Five Hundred and Montego, the Freestyle was produced with both front-wheel drive and all-wheel drive configurations and six- or seven-passenger seating.
Following the return of the Ford Taurus for the 2008 model year, the Freestyle underwent a mid-cycle revision and was renamed the Ford Taurus X, marketed in the United States and Canada, as well as South Korea and the U.S. territories of Puerto Rico, U.S. Virgin Islands, and Guam. Following the 2009 model year, the Taurus X was withdrawn. From the 2009 model year, the larger Ford Flex has served as the three-row Ford CUV/wagon.
From 2005 to 2009, the Freestyle/Taurus X was assembled at Chicago Assembly (Chicago, Illinois); the final vehicle was produced on February 27, 2009.

The contact stated while driving 70 MPH and hauling a trailer, the tow hitch detached from the vehicle, causing the passenger’s side of the trailer to collapse. No one was injured. The contact was able pull over on the side of the roadway with the driver’s side of the trailer still attached to the vehicle. The contact detached the trailer from the vehicle and had the trailer hauled by another vehicle. The vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic and the mechanic stated that the rear sub frame was rusted. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was not contacted. - Summary: This has happened since we purchased the car. when driving down the road out of the blue the wrench light on the dash turns on and the car loses all power!! Dangerous! So dangerous. i have spoken with other foes tauras x owners and they too have the same issue. When it happens i pull over and shut the car off and wait a bit.. I turn it back on and the wrench light is off BUT CAR WONT SHIFT INTO GEAR!! it's very hard to get the shifter to move. when it does move it's a loud CLUNK CLUNk sound like u just dropped the transmission on the ground!! This is happening more often then not now. Hundreds of thousands of people who own this vehicle have complaints about the same issue. NO one can figure out the issue! Some say a sensor, yet a sensor would not make my transmission clunk like that! A lot say it's the control arm and ford has had the wrong control arm installed in all there does tauras x"s 2007 and 2009. My car has 77,609 miles on it. it's been doing this for the past 40,000 miles! I'm truely scared to drive this car aspecially in the winter!! FORD YOU already have been told and are well aware of this issue ! Fix it or get sued by tens of thousands of us all petitioning to do so and all together as a group. so buckle up Ford!

- Summary: I bought this vehicle used from a lot. It had 2 previous owners and came with all the service history. I first noticed the vehicle seemed like it didn’t want to go into overdrive . It would get to about 70 mph which would have the rpm’s at 3k! The 2nd time or so that we got it to these speeds (on interstate) the vehicle suddenly clunked , steering wheel jerked , vehicle lost power - I had my 2 children in the vehicle and I was pregnant. We had to pull over immediately . After sitting side the road for a few , it crunk up and we rode out . Only for it to happen 2 more times. And this is not the only thing effected by this . Not long after I got it , I started noticing a hard shift / clunk / slam when going into gear and especially when the vehicle has just tried to downshift and I pressed the gas again . Due to this , I’m unable to tell when and if we can pull out into traffic and such. I must time it good in order to not risk getting T boned etc. Also, with 3 kids in tow , a vehicle slamming their necks and heads is dangerous and scary. So , I’ve had some work done on . Trying to help my issue. Apparently my issue is the same as a lot of others . Which is an intermittent issue . And apparently no matter if all the passed recalls were addressed. Or if the owners of the vehicle serviced it often and currant . Or if the pcm was reflashed , replaced etc - the Ford Taurus X will continue to have these issues . And these issues seem to be the same issues that were addressed in the ford recall in 2020 ( which didn’t include the Taurus X) and previous recalls . This drivertrain transmission has been an issue for the Taurus X since forever . Please check into this. Last thing we need is whiplash or life flights from this .

- Summary: DRIVING DOWN THE ROAD STRAIGHT, OUR CAR MADE A POP SOUND AND SUDDENLY LURCHED AND STEERING WAS IMPAIRED. CAR WAS TAKEN TO THE NEAREST DEALERSHIP WHERE THEY FOUND THE ENGINE CRADLE/FRONT SUB FRAME HAD RUSTED THROUGH INTERNALLY CAUSING THE SWAY BAR TO BREAK AWAY AND IT HAD PERFORATED AROUND THE MOUNT FOR THE CONTROL ARM. WE WERE EXTREMELY FORTUNATE THE CONTROL ARM DIDN'T COMPLETELY DROP OUT CAUSING AN ACCIDENT. FAILURE IS ALMOST IDENTICAL TO THE FORD ESCAPE SUBFRAME RECALL. DEALER TECHNICIAN SAID HE HAS REPLACED A LOT OF THESE ENGINE CRADLES IN THE TAURUS X'S FOR THE SAME FAILURE (SOME WORSE THAN OURS, COMPLETELY RUSTED IN HALF ETC.). LACK OF SUFFICIENT PAINT INSIDE OF THE CRADLES CAUSING PREMATURE FAILURE IS A MAJOR SAFETY CONCERN. I WOULD NOT BE SURPRISED IF THERE ARE ACCIDENTS REPORTED FOR THIS CONCERN. I HAVE REQUESTED THE ENGINE CRADLE FROM THE DEALERSHIP AFTER IT IS REMOVED FOR PHOTOGRAPHIC EVIDENCE.

Despite having avoided American cars for the past 20 years, this car managed to change your mind after just six test drives at six different dealerships. It's amazing how much of a difference a good car can make, isn't it? While it may not be the most attractive car on the road, it certainly gets the job done, and with three big kids (one of whom is 6 ft 5!), it's great to hear that there's still plenty of room for everyone and their stuff. Plus, the ride is really nice and it has just enough power to get you where you need to go. I'm so glad to hear that you were pleasantly surprised with the standard options and that the price was fantastic. It sounds like this is a really well-built car, with no rattles and doors that close nicely. It's amazing to think that this is a Ford, isn't it?

I was on the hunt for a van, but stumbled upon this Taurus X with only 8,000 miles on the lot. After taking it for a spin, I decided to make the purchase. The second row seats are a breeze to get into compared to a van, although I do miss the armrests that my Taurus X doesn't have. I was initially told that I could expect 25-30 miles per gallon on the highway, but unfortunately, I haven't been able to achieve that. Living in a rural area and doing a mix of small-town driving and highway driving, I usually get around 23.3 miles per gallon. So far, I've only put about 4000 miles on the car, and I'm happy to report that I haven't had any issues.

We sold our wonderful Saab wagon because we needed more room after the birth of our second child. Although we were initially hesitant to consider a domestic car, the Taurus X's specs - interior room, decent fuel economy, and safety - were compelling, especially at this price point. After living with it for a short time, I am blown away by its solid build quality, spacious interior without being too large outside, good ride/handling balance, and amazing seating flexibility. The leather quality is outstanding, and there are numerous thoughtful touches, such as the covered storage bin atop the dash. While it may not be as fun to drive as the Saab turbo, we are still thrilled with our purchase.

I currently have a company vehicle with almost 70,000 miles in 2 years. The vehicle has plenty of power to pull out on busy streets and the interior is nicely laid out (I have auto climate control). Despite the fact that there is no SYNC on earlier models, the fuel economy is decent for such a larger vehicle. The styling is nice and even after 70,000 miles, it still looks good. However, there are a few issues to be aware of. Firstly, it is important to check your hood as corrosion on the hoods is a MAJOR issue. I have seen over half with corrosion issues. Secondly, the OEM tires are terrible! I am currently on my third set and have switched to GoodYear Integrity tires which provide a better ride and better wear. Lastly, there are some poor manufacturing standards such as doors that don't exactly line up and hood offset. Additionally, the front brakes wear prematurely.

Hi there! I've had this car for just over a year now. Unfortunately, it kept stalling at low speeds and the dealer kept saying it was a calibration issue. We took it in 3 times for it to be properly calibrated. Also, the Continental Touring tires that came OEM are bald at 14000 miles. They only come with a 12 month 12000 mile warranty and trust me...they won't last much longer than that. I was hoping that after paying this much for a car, I could get some better OEM tires that I wouldn't have to replace in one year. The transmission is also a bit unpredictable and jumps all over the place at the wrong times. It's a great looking car, but unfortunately, I experienced too many problems when buying it used without a warranty. The dealership covered up the issues and rushed me to make the purchase. However, the car has a great ride and awesome traction. I just think they made it too advanced without proper testing, and the maintenance costs a fortune. I'll definitely pray harder before buying my next car. It's a shame that this one doesn't hold its value well compared to other cars.

This little car is really impressive and I absolutely love it. Although the MPG is not great, it's a small trade-off for such a great vehicle. It would have been nice to have some storage space under the back seats, but unfortunately, there isn't any. The bench seats are not the most comfortable for long rides, but they get the job done. One of my other favorite things about this car is that it doesn't beep when you lock it - I really dislike that! I chose this car because I find the Flex to be one of the ugliest cars out there, and I prefer to sit up higher but don't like SUVs. The Taurus X provides excellent visibility all around. Although I will miss the rear heat controls of the Windstar, which I absolutely loved, I'm willing to adjust to the gear shifter's new position if it provides a much higher level of safety.
