Ford S super duty problems
The Ford Super Duty (also known as the Ford F-Series Super Duty) is a series of heavy-duty pickup trucks produced by the Ford Motor Company since the 1999 model year. Slotted above the consumer-oriented Ford F-150, the Super Duty trucks are an expansion of the Ford F-Series range, from F-250 to the F-600. The F-250 through F-450 are offered as pickup trucks, while the F-350 through F-600 are offered as chassis cabs.
Rather than adapting the lighter-duty F-150 truck for heavier use, Super Duty trucks have been designed as a dedicated variant of the Ford F-Series. The heavier-duty chassis components allow for heavier payloads and towing capabilities. With a GVWR over 8,500 lb (3,900 kg), Super Duty pickups are Class 2 and 3 trucks, while chassis-cab trucks are offered in Classes 3, 4, 5, and 6. The model line also offers Ford Power Stroke V8 diesel engines as an option.
Ford also offers a medium-duty version of the F-Series (F-650 and F-750), which is sometimes branded as the Super Duty, but is another chassis variant. The Super Duty pickup truck also served as the basis for the Ford Excursion full-sized SUV.
The Super Duty trucks and chassis-cabs are assembled at the Kentucky Truck Plant in Louisville, Kentucky, and at Ohio Assembly in Avon Lake, Ohio. Prior to 2016, medium-duty trucks were assembled in Mexico under the Blue Diamond Truck joint venture with Navistar International.

Common Ford S super duty problems
The Ford F-250 Super Duty, a heavy-duty pickup truck, is known for its power and durability. However, like any vehicle, it is not immune to issues and problems. Based on complaints from owners, here are some common problems with the Ford F-250 Super Duty:
- Liner Pitting: If the cooling system is neglected, the Super Duty diesel engines are prone to liner pitting. Air bubbles or ice develop on the engine’s water pump during cavitation, causing corrosion. Antifreeze, such as Nalcool or Caterpillar ELC, should be added to the current coolant regularly to avoid liner pitting.
- Cylinder Head Ejection Spark Plug: The threads in the spark plug hole are damaged when a spark plug is ejected. When this occurs, Ford vehicle specialists advise that the cylinder head be replaced. On the internet, a cylinder head costs about $400.
- Power Loss: A loose hose from the turbocharger to the intake manifold might cause power loss. A little tapping sound from the engine is one symptom of impending power loss. Delamination in the diesel tank can also cause power loss. Delamination occurs when minute metal and liner chips from the tank choke the diesel pump, and the blockage suffocates the engine and causes it to shut down.
- Steering Wheel Vibrates When Braking: Bent rotors might be to blame if you find your steering wheel vibrates when you brake. After an abrupt stop, brake pad material is exposed to very hot rotors and pressure, resulting in rough areas on the rotor’s surface. To save the rotor pads, experts recommend gentle, smooth stops rather than harsh, abrupt braking while driving.
- Transmission Problems: Transmission problems are not uncommon in Ford trucks. Oftentimes, the issue presents subtly with rough shifts between gears. You might notice a jolt, delayed acceleration, or even slipping when that happens. The first thing to check is your transmission fluid level and condition.
- Electrical Gremlins: Despite their excellent build quality, Ford trucks aren’t immune to electrical gremlins. In fact, as these trucks get more technologically advanced, the risk of electrical issues increases considerably. The issues can range from engine start-up failures to your windshield wipers and other accessories not working.
- Death Wobble: The Ford death wobble is largely a Super-Duty problem, but it can actually occur in any vehicle. Most often than not, the problem links back to ball joints, control arms, and other suspension parts that have worn out prematurely. So, you can bet that your own truck will also threaten to shake apart while going over bumps at speed if you’re driving with worn or damaged suspension parts.
These are just a few of the common problems with the Ford F-250 Super Duty. Regular maintenance and inspections can help prevent these issues, but it's essential to be aware of them and address them promptly if they do occur.
