Chevrolet Prizm problems
The Geo Prizm and Chevrolet Prizm were compact cars that were rebadged versions of the Toyota Sprinter, a vehicle that the Japanese automaker Toyota never directly sold in the North American market. The Sprinter itself was derived from the Toyota Corolla. The Prizm was marketed under the Geo nameplate until it was discontinued after the 1997 model year. After that, the vehicle was marketed under the Chevrolet nameplate. General Motors (GM) referred to this and other Toyota Corolla derived vehicles as the GM S platform. The cars were produced from 1988 to 2001 (the last ones being sold for model year 2002) alongside the Corolla at NUMMI, an assembly plant operated as a joint venture of GM and Toyota. The Prizm was sold exclusively in the United States and succeeded the 1985–1988 Chevrolet Nova, which was also derived from the Sprinter and produced at NUMMI.
Production
All Prizms were built at NUMMI (New United Motor Manufacturing, Inc.), a joint venture company between Toyota and General Motors in Fremont, California. The NUMMI plant at Fremont had manufactured the Prizm's predecessor, the Chevrolet Nova, and would later manufacture the Pontiac Vibe, one of its replacements.
Production of the newly-rebadged Chevrolet Prizm began in late 1997 as the Geo brand was phased out, alongside the newest North American generation of the Toyota Corolla. The last Prizm was built on December 13, 2001, resulting in a brief 2002 model year.

THE MINIMUM TREAD DEPTH RECOMMENDED BY FIRESTONE TIRES IS 2/32 DEEP OR 0.0625. THE TREAD DEPTH ON THE TIRE IN QUESTION WAS 0.175, MORE THAN TWICE THE REQUIRED DEPTH. THE STATE TROOPER WHO INVESTIGATED THE CRASH DETERMINED THAT I WAS NOT AT FAULT. THE MECHANIC WHO EXAMINED MY VEHICLE AGREED THAT THE INCIDENT WAS CAUSED BY THE REAR DRIVER'S SIDE TIRE'S TREAD SEPARATING FROM THE TIRE.

The 1.8 liter engine is quite impressive for its size. I was really pleased with the way it accelerated. In my opinion, the 4-speed auto is a better option than the 3-speed, which I found to be inadequate. Chevrolet made a smart move by adding fuel economy with the little overdrive button on the shifter. Overall, it's a great car. It's a pity that the Prizm is being discontinued.

It's my second Prizm. The first one I owned was bought in '97 with 102K miles. I finally passed it on to my kid brother in '03 with 230k miles and it's still driving today. My '01 Prizm has 255k miles on it and still runs like new. These cars are amazing! They don't look like much, but they are great. The thing I love the most is that with $20 bucks of gas, you can run around town all week. They have great power and acceleration, no timing belt. However, oil is very important to these cars!

It's my first and only car, so I'm pretty attached to it. I was a bit surprised to find out that they don't make this model anymore, but I'm glad I was able to snag one while I could. I hope you're doing well! I wanted to share my experience with my car. I purchased it for $3000 over the summer to replace my old Cavalier. I've been really impressed with the mileage and performance, especially considering it only has 125 hp. With some decent tires, cornering is really fun, and the stereo is not too shabby either. The only drawbacks I've encountered are some fading paint and peeling interior plastic around the door frame (which I think may have come from the GM part of the joint project), and the lack of a center armrest. But overall, I think it's a great car. As others have mentioned, it's essentially a Toyota with a Chevy emblem on it, which is a great way to save $2000 compared to a Corolla, and even more on gas. With proper maintenance, this car is bulletproof and perfect for city driving!

I purchased this car used about a year ago, but unfortunately, it has been quite a headache. When I got the car, it already had 141k miles on it and I had to replace the AC compressor, fuel pump, and struts. Additionally, I have had to replace three door handles already, which are quite fragile even with gentle use. The worst part is that the car burns oil very quickly, and the motor has a weak start. While I can rely on it to start, I am not sure how far it will go. The only positive thing I can say is that it is decent on gas, but it is a very small car. As someone who is 6 feet tall, I find it uncomfortable to get in and out of, as I feel pressed against the steering wheel. I would not recommend this car unless you are 4 foot 2 and don't mind spending more on oil than gas. Thank you for considering my experience with this car!

I purchased a used car with 120k miles for $3,000. Unfortunately, within two weeks of the purchase, the brake calipers failed and the car wouldn't start. I took the initiative to troubleshoot the issue and found that the starter, ground wire, and hot wire were all faulty. After replacing the starter relay and ignition switch, the car started again. However, less than a month later, the motor threw a rod. Despite having only driven the car for four months and having had two oil changes, the cost of replacing the motor is over $1500. Therefore, I have decided to dispose of the car and purchase a new one.
