Bmw 530e problems

bmw logo

The seventh generation of the BMW 5 Series consists of the BMW G30 (sedan version) and BMW G31 (wagon version, marketed as 'Touring') executive cars. The G30/G31 has been produced since 2016 by the German automaker BMW and is often collectively referred to as the G30. It was officially announced on 12 October 2016 and sales began in February 2017.

The fastback 5 Series Gran Turismo model from the previous generation is no longer part of the 5 Series model range, and has been moved to the 6 Series Gran Turismo nameplate. A long-wheelbase sedan version (model code G38) is sold in China.

On 27 May 2020, a facelifted 5 Series was unveiled. Although the 2021 BMW 5 Series is 1.2 inches longer than the 2020 model, many of the vehicle's other dimensions remain unchanged despite the styling redesign.

In 2023, the G30 5 Series was phased out in favor of the G60 5 Series. In 2024, the G31 was also phased out in favor of the new Touring model named G61.

Common Bmw 530e problems

The BMW 530e, a plug-in hybrid variant of the BMW 5 Series, has been reported to have several common problems based on complaints from owners. These issues include:

  • Headlights/running lights staying on: Another issue reported by 530e owners is that the headlights or running lights sometimes remain on all night, even when set to auto. This can lead to unnecessary battery drain and may also pose a safety risk if other drivers mistake the stationary car for a moving vehicle.
  • Seat position and mirror memory: The 530e has been reported to forget seat position and mirror settings approximately twice a week, despite being set to remember these settings. This can be frustrating for drivers who have to repeatedly adjust their seats and mirrors to their preferred positions.
  • Software glitches: Some owners have reported unpredictable software gremlins, such as the radio and dash turning on when the car is off, or the seat and steering wheel not returning to their proper positions. These issues may be related to the unique software used in the 530e's plug-in hybrid system.
  • Battery range and recognition issues: In colder temperatures, some 530e owners have noticed that the battery range reads lower, and the car may limit the use of electric power.
  • Suspension issues: Suspension problems are common in the BMW 5 Series, and the 530e is no exception. These issues may manifest as the car pulling to one side, a reduction in ride comfort, squeaking noises, difficulty steering, or one corner of the vehicle sitting lower than the others.
  • Malfunctioning iDrive infotainment system: The iDrive infotainment system in some early 530e models can malfunction, rendering the stereo, heating, and phone controls useless. This issue may be more prevalent in colder weather, as some drivers have reported that the system fails to work until the car has warmed up.
  • Fuel injector defects: Injector defects are a known issue for 525i and 530i models with the N53 petrol engine. When the fuel injectors stop working correctly, drivers may experience rough idling, poor mileage, and unusual RPMs.
  • Transmission fluid leaks: Transmission fluid leaks have been reported in the BMW 5 Series, including the 530e. These leaks can lead to more significant engine and cooling repairs.
  • Electrical glitches: Modern cars, including the 530e, often suffer from electrical issues. Some drivers have reported intermittent problems with the indicators, radio switch, and dashboard cluster. These issues may be caused by a faulty fuse box or other electrical components.

It is essential to note that not all 530e owners will experience these issues, and some problems may be more prevalent in certain model years or production runs. Potential buyers should research specific model years and production runs to better understand the potential issues and associated repair costs.

  • Date Of Incident: 2021-06-24
  • Date Complaint: 2021-09-29
  • VIN: WBAJA9C54KB
  • Components: POWER TRAIN
  • Summary: This vehicle malfunctioned 6x; 2 drivers; by where the car would lunge forward on it's own after coming to a complete stop. 1 incident almost resulted in an accident. This was reported to BMW NA after 5-6 weeks in Stevenscreek BMW for service and issues apparently could not be duplicated after Regional and National Technicians were called in to further investigate. BMW refused to buy-back the vehicle and ultimately I was encouraged to take it to the purchasing dealership (BMW of Monterey) for trade-in consideration. BMW of Monterey indicated they were planning to auction this vehicle but 5 day's post return, they did a normal service (oil change, inspection) and re-sold the vehicle. However, they expunged the 5.5 wks of service records from the CarFax report for which I have reported against this VIN as missing information. I'm very concerned that an unsuspecting new buyer could be at risk thus why I'm reporting this to you after rendering the vehicle. I owned and drove this vehicle for 2 yrs without incident before the 6x malfunction which in my opinion is clearly a safety risk. BMW North America has closed the file on my complaints as of recent.
