Volkswagen Polo 1.6 comfortline problems
The Volkswagen Polo is a supermini car (B-segment) produced by the German car manufacturer Volkswagen since 1975. It is sold in Europe and other markets worldwide in hatchback, saloon, and estate variants throughout its production run.
History
As of 2018, six separate generations of the Polo have been produced, usually identified by a "Series" or "Mark" number.
Some generations were facelifted midway through production, with the updated versions known unofficially by an addition of the letter F to the mark number, e.g., Mk2F. Some members of the automotive press and some enthusiasts consider the facelifts to be separate models, so have used the unofficial designations Polo Mk1 to Mk7 for previous generations. Each Polo model is also identified by a two- or three-character Volkswagen Group Typ number. Official VW Polo history describes Mark I to Mark IV using either Roman numerals or Arabic numerals, with facelifted variants known as "Phase II" models.
The body style has been varied through the life of the car, originally as a hatchback, which derived from the Audi 50. A saloon version was marketed as the Volkswagen Derby.
Volkswagen vehicles built on different platforms have carried the Polo nameplate. For example, the Volkswagen Polo Playa hatchback sold in Southern Africa in the late 1990s was a rebadged SEAT Ibiza, which has a different body shell from the Polo Mk3 sold in Europe at the same time.
Starting in 1982, Volkswagen sold the Polo in Japan initially through an agreement with Japanese dealership Yanase that specializes in European and North American vehicles. Of all Volkswagens imported into Japan, only the Polo (until 2017) and the Golf (until 1997), complied with Japanese government dimension regulations until the introduction of the VW Up! in 2012.

Common Volkswagen Polo 1.6 comfortline problems
Common Problems with Volkswagen Polo 1.6 Comfortline Cars
- Seat Backrest: A small number of Polos assembled between 21 April 2015 and 23 April 2015 may have been fitted with seats where the welds on the backrest might not be secure. A replacement seat was required to solve the problem. If you are considering a Polo from this period, check with a Volkswagen dealer to ensure the issue has been addressed.
- Child Lock Failure: Polos manufactured between 25 November 2015 and 15 April 2016 might have child locks that disengage without warning. A new lock was fitted to resolve the problem. Check with your dealer to see if the work has been completed if you think your car is affected.
- Towing Eye: Polos built between 29 March 2017 and 20 April 2017 may have towing eyes that do not meet specifications and could break if used to tow the vehicle. Check with your dealer to see if your car is affected.
- Loose Camshaft Adjuster: Some examples made between 17 December 2013 and 27 December 2013 might have loose camshaft adjuster bolts. Check this with a Volkswagen dealer because if your car is affected, it will need to have the adjuster replaced to prevent any future issues.
- DSG Gearbox: The manual gearbox has a better reputation for reliability than the seven-speed DSG automatic. Make sure the oil has been changed according to the service schedule.
- DPF (Diesel Particulate Filter): If you tend to do lots of short journeys from cold, opt for a petrol model rather than a diesel one, because the diesel particulate filters can clog up if they don't get regular motorway exercise.
While these issues are not exclusive to the 1.6 Comfortline models, they are common problems reported by owners of Volkswagen Polo cars. Regular maintenance and checks can help prevent or address these issues.
