Common Saturn Sky problems
The Saturn Sky, a roadster produced by General Motors, has been reported to have several common problems based on complaints from owners. Here are some of the issues in detail:
- Vacuum system for the brakes: A specific issue affecting late 2007 and early 2008 models is a change in the vacuum system for the brakes, which can cause the brakes to malfunction when the car is started after sitting overnight. This problem can be avoided by letting the car warm up for a couple of minutes to allow the vacuum for the brakes to build up.
- Stabilitrak: Some owners have reported issues with the Stabilitrak system, which can cause sudden braking of individual wheels during turns, leading to a countersteering mess. This issue has been described as "Stabili-scary" and can be dangerous during playful driving.
- Design flaws and inherent problems: Several design flaws and inherent problems have been reported, including the proximity of the turbo to the water pump, fusebox, and power steering reservoir, electrical issues, excessive battery drain, problems with the cup holder, sudden loss of power leading to limp mode, and issues with the fuel tank filler neck.
- Fuel cap issues: Some owners have reported that a faulty gas cap can cause the check engine light to illuminate.
- Door handles and top latch: Owners have reported issues with door handles snapping, the top latch loosening, and failing trunk support brackets.
- Water leakages: Water leakages have been reported, particularly in the soft top and door areas.
- Low front chin: The Saturn Sky's low front chin is prone to scraping on parking lot curbs, making it essential to be cautious during parking.
When considering purchasing a Saturn Sky, it is recommended to run a CARFAX report, visit a GM dealership with the VIN to pull a report from the GM maintenance database, and be aware of these common issues.
Why did they stop making Saturn Sky?
Due to the stipulations in the government bailout following GM's bankruptcy, the automaker was forced to end the Saturn brand altogether, as well as Pontiac and Hummer, which also resulted in the closure of GM's Lordstown assembly plant in 2009.
Can you get parts for a Saturn Sky?
The NAPA Network carries all the Saturn Sky parts, oils and chemicals needed to keep it operating at top performance. Owners appreciate their vehicle looking, feeling and functioning optimally, which is why they trust in NAPA as their one-stop-shop.
What is the body of a Saturn Sky made of?
Thus where the Solstice is a lighter-weight car with bold styling that exudes a raw roadster personality like that of roadsters of the past the Sky comes across as a less macho car with more contemporary styling. (Note The Sky's body panels are steel not the plastic that typified early Saturn vehicles.)

- Summary: I have experienced peeling of the chrome plating (over plastic) on the INSIDE door release handle on the DRIVER'S side door. When I first noticed this, I cut my fingers on the peeling chrome plating. I had to continually cut back the sharp edge, or carefully reach over it, to prevent further cuts to my fingers. The door handle is not available as a service part from GM for the Saturn Sky (and similar Pontiac Solstice). According to parts catalogs, it was only available as part of the inner door assembly, which is long obsolete for the driver's door side. I was forced to adapt a part from the Chevrolet Cobalt (and used an aftermarket part from Dorman) to replace the handle when I got tired of dealing with cuts. There are a number of YouTube videos showing how to replace the handle, which indicates this is not a one-off problem.

- Summary: I received a recall notice for my Saturn Sky's airbag system in the mail. There was no service light on in my car, and I did not have any known problems, however, to be safe I took my car in. Now the service airbag light is on in my car and I am told that the part that was supposed to be fixed needs to be replaced. If it had been properly repaired or the part replaced when I took it in for the recall, I should not need to pay over $800 to replace it now. I read that the recall only required a piece of tape to be applied. A band aid? What kind of a recall does this?

- Report Received Date: 2014-04-30
- Manufacturer: UCI-FRAM Group
- Components: ELECTRICAL SYSTEM:IGNITION:SWITCH
- Summary: UCI-FRAM Group is recalling certain LS1328 ignition Switches sold as Wells LS1328, Duralast LS1328, Airtex 1S6097, and Carquest 53-27479, and LS1497 Ignition Switches sold as Wells LS1497, Duralast LS1497, Airtex 1S10961, and Carquest 53-27967, for use on various General Motors model and model year vehicles during repair and replacement of the original ignition switch. I'm glad to hear that you're enjoying your second Sky! It sounds like you have a lot of positive things to say about it, including its styling, handling, and ride quality. While you mentioned that storage space and ease of entry and exit could be improved, it's great to hear that you haven't had any major issues with reliability. Thanks for sharing your experience and recommendation to pack light and stay flexible!

I just recently acquired my 2008 redline and I must say, I am thoroughly enjoying driving it. It provides great visibility and is quite comfortable, even for someone of my size (6' and 210 pounds). While it may not be the fastest car out there, it all depends on what you're used to. The car's simplicity is a great feature and I believe this body style will stand the test of time. I've come across some reviews where people have complained about the difficulty of putting the top up and down, but I personally find it to be a breeze. I can't help but wonder how these people manage in their daily lives. I've had to replace both VVT solenoids, which is typical for a GM car, but overall, this is just a fun car for my girlfriend and me to take to the lake. I'm confident it will serve its purpose well.

What a fantastic car! It's so much fun to drive and it looks amazing. People are always asking me what kind of car it is! I even bought special Sky luggage that fits perfectly in the trunk. Sure, there's not a lot of room inside, but come on, it's a convertible! If you need more space, just buy a bigger car! I also bought a saddle bag to hold all the little extras. I absolutely love everything about this car, even the manual top!

After waiting for over a year for my Sky, I have fallen in love with this car. Although there is some room for improvement, such as the door locks and cup holders, I am overall very pleased with this car.

Vehicle year: 2007
This is a great little car that is fun to drive, has great handling, good power, and definitely turns heads! On the road, it gets around 31 mpg, and 24 to 26 in town driving. However, there are a few flaws that you should be aware of. After owning it for a year, it developed a very loud squeak in the front end (during cold weather) that Saturn can't seem to find. It can be a bit noisy at high speed, and the acceleration could be smoother when you really get down on it. Additionally, the dash developed a couple of different rattles after a year. Unfortunately, the passenger side cup holder is a waste - it breaks if you use it (mine has been replaced 3 times). Lastly, the window controls are not positioned well, and there is no room for any cargo at all. Despite these issues, it's still a great car to own and drive!

Most reviews on these cars are great. I understand this because I've wanted one since the day they came out, which was in middle school. I saved and saved and finally bought a very nice condition Sky Redline that looks immaculate. Being a college student, I took the safe road and purchased a sports car with reliability to back it up, according to numerous reviews. However, in my case, it turned out to be wrong. This car has been in the shop longer than it has been in my driveway, unless we count the time it isn't running. The Chevy dealer I bought it from cannot locate the issue. It stalls, the fan stops working occasionally, and my blinkers don't work when they want to. It's an electrical problem. I don't want this to happen to anyone else. When I read reviews, I never once saw a post like this, which gave me a strong sense of security. I just want possible buyers to realize that it's possible for these cars to be junk. Obviously, my car is the one in a million with severe problems, and none of which documented in multiple different VIN history reports, but just be aware so you don't end up like I did. I'm not sure what the previous owner (there was only one) did to this vehicle, but it must have been pretty bad. Unfortunately, they knew how to upkeep appearance and make a wolf in sheep's clothing, and I got the short end of the stick. So, my advice to you is to test drive it multiple times, have it inspected, and be skeptical. Don't automatically figure it's a sound car. I know these cars are great cars, but mine just happens to be junk!

Although I waited almost a year for this car, I am disappointed with its performance. Despite its cool appearance, it has already broken down. While the turbocharger was a new experience for me, I am hesitant to purchase another one in the future. It appears to be more prone to breaking down, or perhaps it is just the GM brand. Although I appreciate the car's aesthetic, its speed does not match its power rating and turbo. Additionally, the interior feels cheap and plastic, and it rattles frequently. Overall, I do not believe that the car is worth the cost or the wait.

My experience with the car has been less than perfect. Although I have had to take it to the shop twice in the first 3 months, the service has been great. The rear end and brake lever had to be replaced, and the gas mileage is average. However, the sales and service staff have been outstanding.

Although I was initially excited to receive my new Sky, my experience has been disappointing due to the poor quality and craftsmanship of the vehicle. Despite having visited the dealership 8 times already, I have encountered numerous issues such as a leaking roof, poor quality paint job, driveline noise, rear axle leakage, and malfunctioning AC compressor. These issues have arisen within just 4 months and 7000 miles of driving. While I still have affection for the car, it is disheartening to have encountered so many problems with a brand new vehicle.

Well, hello there! I must admit, I've done it again. After years of owning Toyotas, Hondas and Nissans, I thought I'd go back to my roots and buy another GM product. I used to only buy GM products for 20 years and now I remember why I stopped buying them. However, I must say that my 2007 still looks like a million bucks in the garage!
