Is the Saturn Aura reliable?

This car is known to be reliable. The exterior and interior are nothing too fancy but it has the necessities (functioning windows, A/C, mid size sedan space, decent trunk space, etc). Saturn is no longer in business so some have had issues finding parts and repairs may be expensive.

How long does a Saturn Aura last?

If you're hoping to hit 200,000 miles in your Aura, that isn't totally unreasonable, but you should expect a maximum mileage closer to 150,000 if you're buying a used model. The car can last for years to come if you take excellent care of it, but it's a lot easier to keep a Toyota or a Honda running than a Saturn.

  • Summary: I bought this 2008 Saturn Aura from dealer on 09/13/2023. Since I bought it, I fractured my hand and foot while checking the tires and brakes. 10/27/23 - I put the car in park to investigate what was causing the constant rattling noise while at the same time the car would shudder. While I was on one knee with one hand on ground so l could bend and look into the wheel well, the car rolled the tire over my hand and foot that was in its path because I wasn't able to move quick enough and didn't expect that to happen. 11/16/23 - I found out what the rattling noise and shudder was caused by when I completely lost all steering control and hit a tree which damaged the vehicle and caused injury, not only to myself but also to my 5 year old nephew who was in the car with me. I was told by a mechanic that a damaged joint bearing caused separation of the u-joint resulting in loss of steering control. What the hell is wrong with this car. I paid $1500 for the vehicle, then to top it off add injury costs I paid; the repairs and/or replacement of the u-joint and transmission shift cable due to damage. I don't know what to do to remedy the situation. I can't even afford to fix the body damage or replace the wheel rim damage caused by the wreck. Where do I go from here? I can't afford a new vehicle that why I bought this car. What a joke. Please advise. Maybe I can find free council.

Latest negative Saturn Aura car reviews

  1. Marcellus Block 2025-01-27

    Vehicle year: 2007

I recently purchased a 2007 Saturn Aura with just under 80k miles. As a previous owner of a 1999 Saturn SL2 for 8 years, I had a good experience and decided to give it another try. Unfortunately, I encountered some issues within the first few weeks of ownership, such as a power steering fluid leak and a faulty output shaft bearing to the transmission. However, I was fortunate enough to have purchased a 2-year warranty which covered the cost of repairs. While there were some initial setbacks, I remain hopeful that these issues will not persist.

  2. Miles Gorczany 2025-01-21

    Vehicle year: 2007

I purchased the car in 2010 when it was just 3 years old and had only 45k miles on it. Unfortunately, within the first 3 months, the transmission failed. Despite having a third-party warranty, the car had to be sent to a specialist for repair. However, the transmission failed again just one week later. The specialist replaced the transmission with a used one instead of rebuilding it. Although the car seemed fine, just 9 months later, the motor failed due to a broken timing belt or chain. I had to replace the motor, which cost me 4k dollars. Despite liking the car's look, power, and some of the interior features, it was a terrible purchase that I will never forget. However, I was able to trade it in at a dealer after the repairs.

  3. Aaron Brakus 2025-01-21

    Vehicle year: 2009

I've had the pleasure of driving many cars, and while the interior of this one is certainly luxurious - with its wood trim, leather heated seats, and moon roof - I've found that its turn radius leaves something to be desired. Unfortunately, I often have to 3-point turn into parking spots that aren't extremely wide. Additionally, while the suspension was designed to provide a 'driving on a cloud' luxury feel, I find that it can feel unstable and hesitant when taking on ramps at speeds faster than 35mph. The car's soft and loose driving style can make it difficult to handle, and the wheels barely turn 40 degrees in radius.

  4. Rashad Gerhold 2024-11-24

    Vehicle year: 2007

Hey there! I've been driving this car for a little over 2 years now and I have to say, it's been a great ride! Sure, I've had a few minor issues with the computer, remote keys, and airbag lights, but overall it's been a very reliable car. :)

  5. Miller Braun 2024-11-22

    Vehicle year: 2008

Sorry to hear about the issues you've been experiencing with your car. It sounds like you've had a lot of trouble with the doors, locks, and electrical system. Additionally, it seems like the ems computer has been causing some problems with starting and the temperature gauge. It's frustrating when a car doesn't work as it should. Thank you for sharing your experience with us.

Latest positive Saturn Aura car reviews

  1. Murphy Collins 2025-02-21

    Vehicle year: 2008

Hi there! I just wanted to share my experience with my Saturn Aura. I bought it back in 2008 with only 49 miles on it and it has been the best investment I have ever made in a car. Even after all these years, my car has over 241,000 miles and it's still running smoothly. Recently, I had to replace the suspension, wheel bearings (even though they didn't need it), and the alternator, which cost me about $760.00. Other than that, the only thing I get done yearly or every other year is my brakes. I really wish that GM would bring this vehicle back to the market. Most Saturn owners, like myself, don't sell our cars and this isn't a car that you will see for sale often. We are pretty loyal to this brand. So, please GM, bring this car back!

  2. Loy Wolf 2025-02-19

    Vehicle year: 2009

We purchased this car back in 2010 with relatively low mileage to replace our 2004 Honda Civic coupe, as we were expecting a baby. The Aura was a significant upgrade in size for us, as my wife and I were both used to driving compacts. It was a great deal for a one-year-old car since Saturn was on its way out, but it's essentially the same as the Malibu, which means parts and service are cheap and easy to come by. It's now almost 8 years old and has a bit over 121k miles, and we haven't had to fix anything major. In fact, the only repair (aside from body damage from people running into it) has been a camshaft position sensor that cost us about $40 at Autozone. The rear door locks don't always open by pushing the button on the door, and the plastic shroud over the radiator makes a little rattling sound when we first start it up, but aside from that, it's been pretty bulletproof as far as reliability is concerned. The AC is still ice cold, it doesn't leak anything, and everything works fine. The car feels as solid as my old Volvo 850. Our Aura has the Ecotec 4-banger which won't win many races, but it's perfect for our daily commutes. If you're looking for a cheap, reliable car that still feels modern, I would strongly recommend it.

Congratulations on your new Saturn Aura XR-4! It's great to hear that you found a car that meets your needs for better mileage without sacrificing comfort. It sounds like you're already enjoying the comfortable drive and the power and speed provided by the 2.4 four cylinder engine and 6 speed transmission. Additionally, the Aura seems to have all the features you were looking for, including Bluetooth, moonroof, remote start, leather seats, Onstar, and XM radio. It's impressive that the Aura has even more features than your previous Lincoln Zephyr. The exterior design is also eye-catching. Thank you for sharing your positive experience with the Aura and recommending it as an affordable midsize option. Enjoy your new car!

I'm already 8000 miles in and I must say, the car has been performing great! I've even received compliments on its looks, with one lady mistaking it for a Lincoln MKS. Although the interior is generally quiet and comfortable, I do find the plastics to be a bit cheap. Additionally, the placement of the traction control switch under the armrest, the heated seat buttons on the side of the seat, and the side mirror switches being too far away make them difficult to reach. It would be great if these could be re-positioned for easier access. Also, who still puts an emergency brake pedal on the floor? Lastly, I did experience a bad rattle, which turned out to be a bad weld on the sunroof bracket. Thankfully, the dealer fixed it under warranty.

My wife just got this car two days ago, and I have to say, I'm really impressed! It's such a great car - incredibly quiet, comfortable, and with fantastic vehicle dynamics and handling. Plus, it looks amazing. We actually have a 2006 Corvette Z06 and a 2001 Z06, but I have to admit, I really enjoy driving this Aura XE. The dealership experience was also excellent. My sister has been driving a Saturn for over 12 years, and I have to say, Saturn has really stepped up their game with great styling, handling, and fun added to the formula.
