Hyundai Santa fe xl problems
The Hyundai Santa Fe (Korean: 현대 싼타페) is an automobile produced by the South Korean manufacturer Hyundai since 2000. It is a five-door crossover SUV that either has front-wheel drive or four-wheel drive. It is named after the city of Santa Fe, New Mexico, and was introduced for the 2001 model year as Hyundai's first SUV. The Santa Fe was a milestone in the company's restructuring program of the late 1990s because the SUV was a hit with American buyers. Between 2006 and 2012, the Santa Fe was positioned between the smaller Tucson compact crossover and the larger Veracruz.
The third-generation Santa Fe introduced in 2012 was available in two versions, which are regular (short) and extended long-wheelbase version. The short model was sold as the Santa Fe Sport in North America (three-row seating was not available) and simply Santa Fe in global markets (three-row seating was standard or optional), while the extended long-wheelbase model is called the Santa Fe in the US, Santa Fe XL in Canada and called the Hyundai Maxcruz in South Korea. The fifth and current generation was released in 2023 and omits diesel engines in favor of petrol hybrid powertrains.
As of 2022, the Santa Fe is positioned between the smaller Tucson – which the Santa Fe shares platform with – and the larger Palisade in Hyundai's global crossover SUV line-up.

Common Hyundai Santa fe xl problems
Based on complaints from owners of the Hyundai Santa Fe XL, several common problems have been reported:
- Transmission Control Module Software and Fuel Quality: Owners have reported issues related to the transmission control module software and fuel quality affecting shift quality. Ensuring the latest software for the transmission control module and using the correct fuel can help maintain proper shift quality, typically occurring after 110,000 miles of driving.
- Rough Idle from Faulty EGR Switching Valve: A rough idle can be experienced due to a faulty Exhaust Gas Recirculation (EGR) switching valve. This issue typically arises after 101,000 miles of driving, and replacing the EGR switching valve is the solution.
- Defective Exhaust Gas Recirculation (EGR) Switching Valves: The 2.7-liter V6 and 2.4-liter 4-cylinder engines of the Hyundai Santa Fe can have defective EGR switching valves, which can lead to performance issues.
- Suspension Problems: Some owners have reported suspension issues with the Hyundai Santa Fe XL, affecting the ride quality and overall driving experience.
- Electrical Problems: Electrical issues have been reported by some owners, impacting various components of the vehicle's electrical system.
These problems highlight the importance of regular maintenance and prompt attention to any warning signs to ensure the optimal performance and longevity of the Hyundai Santa Fe XL.
What is the most common problem with a Hyundai Santa Fe?
There are no specific areas of concern but the majority of reported problems stem from non-engine electrics, with some minor issues relating to the sat-nav and the infotainment system generally, but most problems were fixed under warranty and within a week of first appearing.
What year did Santa Fe have engine problems?
Engine failure is the most challenging and expensive issue, with 2012 and 2013 models having to replace the engine after only 80,000 miles. Faulty fuel level sensors affect 2007 and 2008 Santa Fe, with the 2008 model being the worst hit.
Is a Hyundai Santa Fe a reliable car?
With its overall reliability score of 94.3%, Hyundai ranked higher than Ford, Skoda and VW but below Lexus and Toyota. Based on this alone, the Hyundai Santa Fe should be more reliable than the rival Skoda Kodiaq, but less reliable than the Toyota Highlander.
Is the Santa Fe XL bigger than the Santa Fe?
The XL is larger in that it has an extra row of seating, but it is also slighting longer in length. The Santa Fe is 188 inches in length, while the Santa Fe XL is 193 inches in length. Another difference between the two vehicles is the cargo space.

- Summary: On [XXX], 2024 I brought my car in for a recall that the dealership called me and advised me that I needed to get it done so I brought it in and mentioned that it was hesitating a little bit so they did the inspection and found out I needed oil They proceeded to tell me there was sludge and oil or something like that and they did an oil flush twice $600 later everything should be fine as I turn my back to walk out after paying I was told to listen for any noises so I was concerned for noises because what they did just may not be the fix. so fast forward a week and a half later I hear a subtle noise in the engine and make an appointment for [XXX]. Bring the car in to the Staten Island Hyundai dealership and was treated like a criminal with my own car! They kept on saying customer neglect and that I may need a new engine and it has to go to corporate so nothing‘s gonna happen. It’s cause it’s the weekend and I expected to hear something on Monday but weeks by and not hear nothing until they need more oil change records the last record they have was at 36,000 miles apparently they think I never took it anywhere else so they wanted anything after that and then later on after I submitted that they denied my engine replacement because I didn’t submit anything prior to that anything prior to that would’ve been cleared and it wouldn’t show customer neglect because they do the multipoint inspection every time you walk in the dealership so I was neglecting the car. Why did they not find anything on it? Keep in mind that the oil light never went on there was no oil leak and the engine light never went on so there was no indication that anything was wrong with this car until we heard subtle noise and Hyundai dealership on Staten Island told us we needed a replacement and so this has been going on for two months now and I’ve been calling places trying to get an engineering placement with no luck. - VIN: KM8SRDHF8KU
- Components: ENGINE
- Summary: The engine seized with no warning. We had our camshaft replaced six months prior that was covered by our extended warranty. Hyundai dealer was tracking oil consumption issue prior to repair and notice consumption was increasing. We had three oil changes from November through April. Our last oil change was on 3.25 and engine seized 1,200 miles later. Hyundai offered to cover 60% of the $22,000 engine replacement. We were told that we would need to cover the cost ($2,200) for our Hyundai dealer to break down the engine for our extended warranty to inspect. Unfortunately, they have all but guaranteed that they would deny coverage due to carbon being present in the piston. We are left to cover the cost or junk our car.

- Summary: I am writing to report an issue with Holler Hyundai located at 1150 N. Orlando Ave., Winter Park, Florida, 32789, concerning their handling of recall "AUXILARY CANISTER KIT INST [XXX] -" for my vehicle. Over the past year, I have brought my vehicle to the dealership three times for this recall service. Each time, I was informed that the necessary parts were on back order. Despite repeated inquiries and visits since Feb 20 2023, the dealer has failed to perform the recall repair, citing parts availability issues. This delay send unreasonable, and I believe it reflects a failure on the part of the dealer and possibly the manufacturer to address recall obligations in a timely manner. I am seeking your assistance in resolving this matter. I believe it is critical that the recall repair is performed as soon as possible to ensure my vehicle's safety. I would appreciate any intervention the NHTSA can provide. INFORMATION REDACTED PURSUANT TO THE FREEDOM OF INFORMATION ACT (FOIA), 5 U.S.C. 552(B)(6)

- Summary: 2019 HYUNDAI SANTA FE XL- I feel something should be done against Hyundai. I could have easily been killed by their failure in one area. Vehicle wiring harnesses. Are you aware that the wiring systems in many of their vehicles are made from Soy. Soy is a product that is made of Soy Beans and guess that rodents such as mice, chipmunks and squirrels love. Soy Beans. I have had three instances where rodents have chewed the wiring in my vehicle. The one time I could have been killed. To be honest I thought I would be when cars could come behind me and screech on their brakes. I was driving in heavy traffic coming back from Chicago and my vehicle stopped right in the third land of a heavy interstate highway with semis and such passing me at 60 plus miles of hour. The traffic was so thick at times I could not get out of the car and there I sat stalled. I eventually had my vehicle towed to my mechanic and a red squirrel got under the hood of my vehicle at some point and chew the heck out of the wiring. That was the second time. The third time happened today. I could have easily been killed when my call stopped on the busy intestate. Setting there with my flashers going in the middle lane not moving with vehicles going around me at high speeds. I have over $1,000.00 in costs repairing rodent chews on my vehicle. It is not just myself, look on the net. This issue is ever going with Hyundai. The company needs to reimburse me for costs incurred on this and but more so your office needs to look into having Hyundai fix this. They need to replace all the wiring harnesses in their vehicles with normal wiring like USA cars use if theirs are made with rodent attracting products. I have other vehicles here and have had for years and not one of my other vehicles have had so much as a rodent issue with those setting side by side the Hyundai. In fact I am to the point of selling it and taking a loss as the stress on wondering if it will happen again and create a financial strain on my is overwhelming. I had dozens of USA vehicles and even lived on farms and never had anything chewed by a rodent. Something needs to be done. I am on fixed income and I can not afford car bills because of rodents. I put my trust in Hyundai because of their 100,000 mile warranty which is why I bought the car. Their warranty does not cover critter claims and had to pay for these repairs out of my pocket and I do not have the money for this. Not once did anyone mention nor would one thing of wiring getting attracted and eaten by rodents because of how they made their vehicles. Thank You.

- Summary: Recall 218 for possible engine fire was issued in early February 2022. 3.5 months later in mid-May there is still no remedy. It has been inconvenient to “park my vehicle outside and away from structures” and to constantly be pulling over when I smell something to make sure my car is not on fire. I can not use my car to go on any long trips for fear it will catch fire. Hyundai should buy my car back since it can catch fire and I can’t use it reliably and since it could kill me or my family.

I have a 2019 Limited 4 cylinder AWD and I absolutely love it! The vehicle looks great and the ride is smooth. The safety features are top-notch and intuitive once you get the hang of them. However, I did have some trouble with the windshield wipers missing a section in the middle of the windshield and the cup holders in the doors are not very useful. But, I was able to solve the wiper issue by purchasing new ones from a different brand. As for the Blue Link starter app, it can be unreliable at times, which is frustrating since they plan to charge for it in the future. In 2022, I still have a love-hate relationship with Hyundai. The vehicle itself is fantastic and I have had no issues with it. However, the Bluelink service has been unreliable and expensive. I was supposed to receive three years of the remote start service, but it did not work properly for the first two years. They did eventually fix it, but now they want me to pay $20 a month for the service. As a senior citizen on a fixed income, this is too expensive for me. I would love to continue buying Hyundai vehicles, but I need a more affordable option for remote start. Overall, I give the vehicle five stars and Bluelink zero stars. (2023 update)I recently switched from bluelink to a Hyundai approved technician for my key fob remote, and it's been working great. Although the heated seats don't turn on with the remote start and the seat belt is set back too far, making it difficult for me to reach, these are relatively minor issues. Overall, I still love the car and have not encountered any major problems so far. Therefore, I am raising my review to 5 stars.

Hi there! I'm glad to hear that this is your second Hyundai SUV. It's great to know that it has an abundance of cargo space when the 2nd and 3rd row seating is folded down. The engine sounds peppy, although it seems like the transmission could use an extra gear since it bogs down around 1200 rpm. I understand your frustration with some of the features that are not included as standard, such as the electronic rear gate and some safety features. It would be great if the SE model had these features included. I also agree that 19

Unfortunately, it seems that a bench seat for the second row and material seats are not available options. Additionally, the second row only has captain seats, making it a 6-seater instead of a 7-seater. I apologize for any inconvenience this may cause.

Hey there! Why not take some other cars for a test drive?
Darrion Moore 2024-08-05

I love almost everything about this car, but there is one major issue that I have encountered. The gas and brake pedals are attached to the floor board in such a way that the bottom of the pedals are fixed. This is not something that I would have considered when purchasing a vehicle. Unfortunately, this design causes my right leg to ache and tingle when driving. The pedals are angled in such a way that you have to tilt your foot up, which feels unnatural. Instead of being able to push the pedal down, you have to push the pedal forward, which again feels unnatural. I have tried all the seat settings, but none of them have helped to address this issue. I am 5’3” and I am not sure if this is because of my height or if it happens to everyone. Therefore, I would highly recommend that you test drive the vehicle for a long period of time before making your decision. Test drive in traffic so that you can use the pedals more and see how they feel. I would have bought this car time and time again, but unfortunately, this issue has made me reconsider. There is nothing worse than driving your car and being in pain, and unfortunately, I cannot trade it in because it is too new. I hope this review will help someone else avoid this issue.

Our 2019 Hyundai Santa Fe XL, purchased brand new with an extended warranty, experienced a complete engine failure at 130000 miles. While we were not aware beforehand, it is unfortunate that the GDI engine in Santa Fe has a history of failure in their 4 cylinder vehicles. However, it is important to note that our Santa Fe is a 6 cylinder and not covered by the class action lawsuit against that engine. Hyundai has provided a quote of $10000 for a new engine installation. We are confident in our decision to invest in a new engine and look forward to continuing to enjoy our Santa Fe for years to come.
