The Chevrolet Van or Chevy Van (also known as the Chevrolet/GMC G-series vans and GMC Vandura) is a range of vans that was manufactured by General Motors from the 1964 to 1996 model years. Introduced as the successor for the rear-engine Corvair Corvan/Greenbrier, the model line also replaced the panel van configuration of the Chevrolet Suburban. The vehicle was sold both in passenger van and cargo van configurations as well as a cutaway van chassis that served as the basis for a variety of custom applications.

Produced across three generations (1964–66, 1967–70, and 1970–96), the model line was sold under a wide variety of model names under both the Chevrolet and GMC brands. The first two generations were forward control vehicles (with the engine placed between the seats); the third generation adopted a configuration placing the engine forward of the driver. The second and third generations shared powertrain commonality with the C/K pickup truck model line.

After the 1996 model year, GM retired the G-Series vans, replacing them with the GMT600-platform Chevrolet Express and GMC Savana.

Common Gmc Vandura 1500 problems

The GMC Vandura 1500, like many other vehicles, has its share of common problems reported by owners. Here are some of the issues that have been reported:

  • No Power to Fuel Injector: Another common issue reported by owners of the GMC Vandura is that there is no power to the fuel injector. This problem can prevent the vehicle from starting, making it impossible to drive. In some cases, the ignition switch may turn forward without cranking the key, which can be a sign of a problem with the fuel injector.
  • Broken Alternator Bracket: Some owners of the GMC Vandura have reported that the alternator bracket is broken, which can cause the alternator to malfunction. This problem can lead to a variety of issues, including difficulty starting the vehicle, stalling, and other engine problems. In some cases, the broken alternator bracket may be visible, making it easier to diagnose the problem. However, in other cases, the problem may be more subtle, requiring a more thorough inspection of the vehicle.
  • Struggling to Get to Highway Speed: Owners of the GMC Vandura have reported that the vehicle may struggle to get to highway speed, especially when going uphill. This problem can be caused by a variety of issues, including problems with the fuel pump, ignition module, idle air control valve, temperature sender, oil sender, ECM, throttle position sensor, plugs, and wires. In some cases, there may be no codes, making it more challenging to diagnose the problem.
  • Fuel Filter Location: Some owners of the GMC Vandura have reported difficulty finding the fuel filter, which may be located inside the gas tank. This problem can make it more challenging to replace the fuel filter, which is an essential maintenance task for the vehicle. In some cases, the fuel filter may be located in a different location, depending on the specific model and year of the vehicle.
  • Idling Problems: Owners of the GMC Vandura have reported that the vehicle may have idling problems, including a higher-than-normal engine idle. This problem can cause the truck to waste fuel and may cause the engine to shut off when the vehicle is idling. The cause of this issue is most likely that the throttle body gasket has developed a vacuum leak, which can be fixed by replacing any failed gaskets.
  • Abnormal Noise from the Front or Rear Differential: Owners of the GMC Vandura have reported that the vehicle may make abnormal noises from the front or rear differential, which can be caused by worn bearings or other faults. This problem may require a full rebuild of the affected differential, which can be expensive.

These are just a few of the common problems reported by owners of the GMC Vandura 1500. If you own one of these vehicles and experience any of these issues, it's essential to have the vehicle inspected by a qualified mechanic to diagnose and fix the problem. Regular maintenance and inspections can help prevent many of these issues from occurring, ensuring that your GMC Vandura remains a reliable and enjoyable vehicle to drive.
