Denali is a nameplate used by GMC for its highest trim level on its vehicles. Vehicles with the Denali trim option carry list prices up to 47% higher than base models. Prices range from $38,600 for GMC Terrain to $109,410 for a top-of-the-line Yukon XL Denali (as of 2023).

History

The Denali nameplate started as the top-of-the-line version of the GMC Yukon for the 1999 model year. It was also GM's first attempt to go after sales from the new-for-1998 Lincoln Navigator. At the time of its introduction. General Motors decided to give Cadillac its own luxury SUV so the Denali's exterior was shared with the 1999 Cadillac Escalade, with only the front fascia and lower side body panels differing from the standard Yukon. Although the Yukon was redesigned alongside the Chevrolet Suburban and Chevrolet Tahoe in 2000, the Yukon Denali, Escalade, and Tahoe Limited/Z71 retained their GMT400 base design.

The "Denali" brand was derived from the native Alaskan Athabaskans / Koyukon people's name for the tallest mountain in North America. It is also the name of the Denali National Park and Preserve that surrounds the mountain, as well as Denali State Park.

FOR SOME ODD REASON MY GMC'S VIN WASN'T UP FOR A RECALL WHEN IT CLEARLY NEEDS ONE, IM PLEADING FOR SOME HELP; I'M WORRIED FOR MY SAFETY BECAUSE OF THIS MANUFACTURER DEFECT. I COULDN'T STOP. I ALMOST PUT THE TRUCK GEAR IN NEUTRAL BUT IT WAS RAINING SO SOMEHOW THE TRUCK MANAGED TO SLOW DOWN GOING UP A SMALL HILL, GIVING ME CONTROL BACK. THANK GOD I DIDN'T DIE AND THAT THE PERSON ON THE RIGHT SLOWED DOWN AND MOVED OUT THE WAY. THE TRUCK SEEMED TO BE PULLING ME TO THE RIGHT. WHY I HAVE NO IDEA. BUT WHY IS GM PUTTING PEOPLE LIVES AT RISK LIKE THIS? WHY ARE WE HAVING TO SUFFER OR PUT OUR FAMILIES IN JEOPARDY. THIS MAKES NO SENSE. Summary: CERTAIN SPORT UTILITY VEHICLES FAIL TO COMPLY WITH THE REQUIREMENTS OF FEDERAL MOTOR VEHICLE SAFETY STANDARD NO. 225, "CHILD RESTRAINT ANCHORAGE SYSTEMS" THE REQUIREMENTS FOR LOCATION AND INSTRUCTIONS FOR PROPERLY ATTACHING CHILD RESTRAINTS. THE OWNER MANUAL IN THESE VEHICLES INDICATE THE INCORRECT SEAT LOCATIONS WITH UPPER AND LOWER TETHER ANCHORS, AND PROVIDE INCORRECT INSTALLATION INSTRUCTIONS FOR THE TOP TETHER ANCHORAGE.
Consequence: IMPROPER USE OF CHILD RESTRAINT ANCHORAGE COULD RESULT IN PERSONAL INJURY TO THE SEAT OCCUPANT.
