Ford Ford gt problems

ford logo

The Ford GT is a mid-engine two-seater sports car manufactured and marketed by American automobile manufacturer Ford for the 2005 model year in conjunction with the company's 2003 centenary. The second generation Ford GT became available for the 2017 model year.

The GT recalls Ford's historically significant GT40, a consecutive four-time winner of the 24 Hours of Le Mans (1966–1969), including a 1-2-3 finish in 1966.

This history has inspired many movies, including the 2019 film Ford v Ferrari. In this film, they show the story of the development of the Ford GT40 mk I. The car was designed by Carroll Shelby, Phil Remington, and race car driver Ken Miles.

Common Ford Ford gt problems

The Ford GT, a high-performance sports car produced by Ford, has been praised for its impressive power and speed. However, like any vehicle, it is not without its common problems. Here are some of the issues that Ford GT owners have reported:

  • Half-shaft bolt failures: There have been reports of half-shaft bolt failures in some Ford GTs. This issue was serious enough that Ford issued a recall to address the problem. If you're considering purchasing a used Ford GT, it's essential to check whether the recall has been performed.
  • Fuel filler door issues: Some Ford GT owners have reported issues with the fuel filler door, such as it not closing properly or leaking. This can be a safety hazard, as it can lead to fuel spills and potential fires. It's essential to check the fuel filler door and make sure it's functioning properly before purchasing a Ford GT.
  • Corrosion on the magnesium center console: There have been reports of corrosion on the magnesium center console in some Ford GTs. This can be a significant issue, as it can make the console unusable. Refinishing the console may or may not permanently resolve the issue, so it's essential to check for signs of corrosion before purchasing a Ford GT.
  • Visibility issues: The Ford GT has been criticized for its poor visibility, particularly when it comes to rearview mirrors and blind spots. This can make it difficult for drivers to see other vehicles and pedestrians, increasing the risk of accidents. Some owners have reported using aggressive driving styles to compensate for the poor visibility, which can be dangerous.
  • Lack of storage: The Ford GT has very little storage space, with no glove box, center console, or significant trunk space. This can make it challenging to store personal items or luggage, which can be inconvenient for long trips.
  • Airbag inflator recall: The Ford GT is subject to the Takata airbag inflator recall, which affects millions of vehicles from various manufacturers. This recall is serious, as it can cause the airbags to deploy with excessive force, potentially causing injury or death. It's essential to check whether the recall has been performed before purchasing a Ford GT.

In summary, the Ford GT is a high-performance sports car that has been praised for its impressive power and speed. However, like any vehicle, it is not without its common problems. Owners have reported issues with dashboard gauges, half-shaft bolt failures, fuel filler door issues, corrosion on the magnesium center console, poor visibility, lack of storage, and the Takata airbag inflator recall. If you're considering purchasing a Ford GT, it's essential to check for these issues and ensure that any necessary repairs have been performed.

What is the most common issue with Fords?

Transmission Problems

Transmission Problems

One of the most common issues in Ford vehicles is related to transmission. Many Ford owners have reported transmission problems such as twitching or slipping when shifting gears, delayed or rough shifting, and complete transmission failure.

Why did Ford stop making the Ford GT?

The answers are pretty straightforward. For starters, the model had got to the end of its production run one way or another. The GT is also a low-volume, high-cost production car. With so few produced each year, it would be hard for Ford to keep the GT rolling off the assembly line.

What is so special about Ford GT?

The Ford GT features many technologies unique at its time including a superplastic-formed frame, aluminum body panels, roll-bonded floor panels, a friction stir welded center tunnel, covered by a magnesium center console, a "ship-in-a-bottle" gas tank, a capless fuel filler system, one-piece panels, and an aluminum ...

Does the Ford GT have good handling?

What's the verdict? “Right now, it might just be the best handling hardcore supercar of them all.” The Ford GT is not a supercar in the same mould as an Audi R8, a Ferrari 488 GTB or even a McLaren 720S. It's the next step on, where they strip out the weight, ramp up the aggression and really work the aero.
