Chrysler Voyager problems
The Chrysler Voyager (and the long-wheelbase Chrysler Grand Voyager) is a minivan produced by the Chrysler division of Stellantis. In the current lineup, it is positioned as the lower-end Chrysler minivan, having replaced the Dodge Grand Caravan in 2020, below the Chrysler Pacifica.
The Chrysler Voyager was introduced in Europe in 1988, and was a rebadged version of the Dodge Caravan in the United States. It originally evolved with the Caravan, the Plymouth Voyager, and the Chrysler Town & Country. In the United States, the Chrysler Voyager nameplate replaced the short-wheelbase (SWB) version of the Plymouth Voyager following the folding of the Plymouth division by DaimlerChrysler AG in 2001, and was discontinued in 2003. The nameplate was revived for the 2021 model year following the discontinuation of the Dodge Grand Caravan after the 2020 model year, and is rebadged as the Chrysler Grand Caravan in Canada.
In Europe, the Chrysler Voyager was rebadged as the Lancia Voyager from the 2011 until 2016 model years. The Voyager was sold with different engines, including diesel engines, and was also available with manual transmission and a foot-operated emergency brake. Although now produced solely in Ontario, Canada, the Grand Voyagers were still available with diesel engines as standard. These diesel engines are based on a modern double overhead cam common rail design from VM Motori of Italy. The last European Chrysler Grand Voyagers are very similar to the 2008 and later Chrysler Town & Country cars, and were sold only in the long-wheelbase version (as in North America). Following the fifth generation, the Grand Voyager nameplate was discontinued in all markets.
Together with its nameplate variants, the Chrysler minivans have ranked as the 13th bestselling automotive nameplate worldwide, with over 12 million sold.

Common Chrysler Voyager problems
Based on complaints from owners of the Chrysler Voyager, several common problems have been reported:
- Suspension Bushes Failure:
- Suspension bushes are prone to early failure in the Chrysler Voyager. Testing the car's suspension by pushing on the bonnet and observing its bounce can help identify this issue.
- Automatic Gearbox Malfunctions:
- Diesel automatic models may experience problems with the automatic gearbox, especially at high speeds. Failure to engage properly or baulking can indicate transmission issues.
- Shock Absorber Leaks:
- Leakage from the shock absorbers can be detected by moisture under the wheel arch. This can affect the ride quality and should be addressed promptly.
- Electric Door Latch Failure:
- The electronically operated latch on the electric sliding door can fail, leading to issues with automatic operation. Manual controls may still work, but the automatic switch could be faulty.
These common problems with the Chrysler Voyager highlight the importance of thorough inspections and regular maintenance to address issues promptly and ensure the longevity of the vehicle.

Chrysler Voyager 2020
- Date Of Incident: 2024-09-24
- Date Complaint: 2024-10-23
- VIN: 2C4RC1DG6LR
- Components: STEERING,ELECTRICAL SYSTEM
- Summary: I was turning left into a parking lot when my 2020 Voyager steering stopped working while it started to show all warning lights and the wipers went on, then it went dead, had to be towed on a flatbed to the dealership, and after 4 weeks with no solution in sight, I decided to bring it home and research the solution myself, The problem came from the CAN bus connector located above the glove box, any short or voltage fluctuation from the wires out of the can bus causes the car to go into panic mode, sometimes making the steering wheel stop steering, and the engine to turn off, most of the times it renders the vehicle disabled. One of the connectors goes into the steering module attached to the electric steering column under the car, the pair of wires near the steering module was fused and exposed, touching each other, and the poor wire insulation, proximity of the engine exhaust pipe, and other hot components coupled with an excessive tight cable zip tie caused the damaged to the wire. Chrysler needs to replace wiring coming from the can bus connectors as damages to any of the wires cause wide failure of vital car components while driving. Case and point, a major safety issue with the Chrysler Voyager 2020 and possibly Pacifica 2020 as my steering wheel stopped working while making a left turn that could have caused a crash with incoming traffic. The vehicle was inspected by an authorized Chrysler Dealer, but after 4 weeks they were unable to find and fix the issue, they replaced the auxiliary battery and were trying to replace the RFH module by did not fix it, that's when I decided to remove the car and inspect it my self.

Chrysler Voyager 2020
- Date Of Incident: 2024-09-10
- Date Complaint: 2024-09-10
- VIN: 2C4RC1CG1LR
- Components: SEATS
- Summary: When child was adjusting the recline in the driver side middle row bucket seat, the seat broke. The seat no longer stays in any recline position, and the seat no longer latches into place at the base and slides forwards and backwards. A system within the seat has failed. My 9 year old child’s safety was at risk, since the failure happened while she was in the seat and we were driving. The seat has not been inspected, but is available for inspection. There were no warnings of any kind before the failure. We were lucky we were close to home, and were not in an accident, or this could have been a lot worse. When I did a quick google search it shows that this seems to be a common problem for Chrysler vans, and should be corrected by Chrysler.
Chrysler Voyager 2021
- Date Of Incident: 2024-07-22
- Date Complaint: 2024-07-23
- VIN: 2C4RC1DG7MR
- Components: POWER TRAIN
- Summary: I was driving on a freeway. My car had no warning lights. Suddenly the dash lit up like a Christmas tree and the car lost all power. The engine was running, but the gas pedal was unresponsive. The transmission went to neutral. I was forced to coast to the side of the road. Luckily there was somewhere to go. Someone was trying to merge as I was slowing down. It was quite scary. Once the car stopped, it put it self into park and I was stuck. After about twenty minutes, the warning lights turned off and the car drove normally. This happened 3 more time. I finally parked the car. I took it to a mechanic, but said he couldn't work on it because Chrysler hadn't released the technical information for the diagnostic system. I tried cleaning the connections to the computer and the car ran great. The next day I tried driving to work and the car died again. I was going up hill and car quickly came to a stop in front someones driveway. I tried putting the car in neutral, so that I could drift backwards out of the way. The car kept putting itself pack into park. I've had many cars break down on me over there years, but I was always able to get out of harms way by drifting to a safe location or pushing the car off the road. Being stuck in park is an unacceptable safety hazard. If the car had ever broke down on a busy freeway, I would be stopped in the middle of lane, waiting for someone to smash into me from behind.

- Date Of Incident: 2024-03-31
- Date Complaint: 2024-04-09
- VIN: 2C4RC1DG4MR
- Components: UNKNOWN OR OTHER
- Summary: In the 2 years that I owned the van I have walked away from the car after a journey and accidentally left the van running 3 times and my mechanic has done it once. 2 of those times it was left running all night. Once it ran out of gas. It seems to happen when I am distracted. The safety issue is that the van has no warning system when this happens and there is a lot of carbon monoxide released into the air. It could be lethal in an enclosed area. Also, note that it is a push button start and I have the key fob with me when this happens, so the fob is far away from the van and it is still running.
Chrysler Voyager 2021
- Date Of Incident: 2023-11-17
- Date Complaint: 2024-03-04
- VIN: 2C4RC1CG6MR
- Components: SEATS
- Summary: Our second row seat on the passenger side has a head rest that will not fold upright and lock into place. The seat itself is useless due to the headrest not folding up correctly and is a safety hazard for anyone to sit in it. I bought this vehicle for the purpose of having all available seats to be used for our family and now we have one seat that cannot be used. No matter how many times we tried to push it up or folding the seat all the way down and then back up it still does not lock into place on the headrest. We have did research and many people have had the same issue and have not been able to get it fixed even after taking it to a repair service or dealer. This needs to be a serious recall and should be fixed if so many others have had the same issues.

Chrysler Voyager 2020
- Date Of Incident: 2021-09-26
- Date Complaint: 2021-09-27
- VIN: 2c4rc1ag4lr
- Components: POWER TRAIN,ENGINE
- Summary: While drivng with the cruise control engaged and encountering a downhill speed increase of about 5 MPH, the transmission kicks down to engage engine breaking. However as the process starts, first the engine revs and will increase vehicle speed by about 5 MPH. An example is cruise set at 60, down hill increases speed to 65, engine rev results in 70 MPH speed requiring heavy braking to regain control. I have tested this without the cruise engaged by shifting from D to L and engaging the kickdown process and engine accelleration in an identical manner. I have viewed the Chrysler Owner Forum and found many complaints of this occurance on Pacifica modesl since 2017. Most suggest it is a software problem. No component failed. My safety and the safety of others are at risk for the sudden increase in speed and demand for increased heavy braking. I have not contact the dealer since I have read all the prior Pacfica complaints and I believe Chrysler knows of the problem. No one has inspected the vehicle. No warnings are presented prior to the sudden accelleration. My vehicle can demonstrate this fault at any time or place.
