The Cadillac XLR is a front-engine, rear-drive, two passenger roadster manufactured and marketed by Cadillac from 2003 to 2009 across a single generation — and noted for its power retractable hardtop, Bulgari designed interior instruments, head-up display, adaptive suspension, rear-mounted transmission and near 50/50 front-to-rear weight distribution. As Cadillac's flagship model, the XLR was introduced at the 2003 North American International Auto Show and began production for the 2004 model year — foreshadowed by the 1999 Evoq concept.
The Cadillac XLR, although sometimes perceived as a badge-engineered variant of the Chevrolet Corvette – also manufactured at GM's Bowling Green assembly, and with the XLR sharing its GM Y platform, hydroformed perimeter frame and composite bodywork construction technology with the Corvette — each car has unique engines, exterior body panels, and their own interiors, suspension settings; and importantly, the XLR featured a power retractable hardtop. And the XLR arrived a year ahead of its platform sharing C6 Corvette sibling.
The XLR was the first production Cadillac with radar-based adaptive cruise control (ACC) and the first to offer both heated and cooled seats.
The XLR was nominated for the North American Car of the Year award for 2004.

I have read about the roof of many of these cars flying off while driving down the road. It is only a matter of time before this poor defect causes serious injury and/ or significant property damage. I called cadillac customer service and they refused to offer any help. I recently spoke to a local body shop about getting it repaired and the estimate was upward of 1000 dollars

This is actually my second Cadillac, the first being a 2005 CTS. I must say, the XLR is a really sporty and attractive car that always turns heads. However, I have noticed that there is a lack of knowledge when it comes to repairs and maintenance, and the computer-driven systems tend to malfunction quite often. Additionally, the FM radio reception system is not as strong as I would like it to be, and some of the interior items such as visors, visor mirrors, and storage compartments between seats are built cheaply. Despite these minor issues, the car is an absolute joy to ride. By the way, just a friendly reminder to watch out for the cops as they seem to be attracted to expensive-looking cars and may not take kindly to loud music and top-down driving.

I've always wanted a Corvette and had been looking at them. When I took my Cadillac DeVille in for service, the staff asked me when I was going to trade it in. I told them I was looking for something different. They told me about the XLR that was coming out. When they finally got one in, they called me to come and take a look at it. I fell in love with it immediately. It's so much fun to drive and really turns heads. Although I have a second car, I don't drive it every day. I recently took a trip to Lafayette, LA and it was an absolute pleasure driving it. It's definitely a sports car and I've thoroughly enjoyed every moment of owning it.

The smooth and stable ride on both highways and side roads is a real treat. The comfortable and well-equipped interior makes for an enjoyable driving experience. It's especially fun to drive on warm, sunny days with the top down. The eye-catching exterior is sure to turn heads wherever you go. It's worth noting that this vehicle often attracts the interest of complete strangers, but I've had the pleasure of meeting some great people who share my passion for unique and fun automobiles like the XLR. If you're looking for a fun ride, the XLR is definitely worth considering. Buy one and have a blast!

In my opinion, the non-supercharged version is a bit wanting, but the supercharged version offers good performance, with its Corvette heritage being quite obvious. However, it is worth noting that the lack of any storage behind the seats can make traveling a challenge. Additionally, with the top down, storage is practically non-existent, especially when compared to the SL.

I bought mine off the showroom floor for 83,000 dollars to go with my Vette and Escalade. Yes, I owed GM a lot. It's the best and worst car I've ever owned. It's a great head-turner and fun to drive, but it was ALWAYS in the shop. I mean ALWAYS. In my 40 months of owning it, it was in the shop 33 times for everything from headlights to horns to rubber fading, transmission, water pump, oil pump, compressor, tire gauge, throttle body, trunk, fog lights, visors, radio replacement, navigation, radiator, blown speaker, push-button door entry, lights on dash blown, periscope wheel, heads-up display, wiper pump, and rusted tailpipes. I am not making this up, so be warned. The stupid thing is, I still liked the car?

The dealer diagnosed it as inappropriate spark detonation, but even after three additional visits and a site visit by Cadillac's engineer, the issue remains unresolved. This has resulted in the car being out of service for almost a month since purchase. As an owner of a new Cadillac STS, I can confidently say that there is no comparison between the two cars. It is disappointing that Cadillac has not been able to address this issue effectively. In the future, I may consider a Mercedes-Benz SL500.

It is disappointing that Cadillac has not been able to address this issue effectively. In the future, I may consider a Mercedes-Benz SL500.
