The BMW 5 Series (G60) is an executive car manufactured and marketed by German luxury automaker BMW since 2023. The lineup consists of the G60 saloon, G61 estate (marketed as Touring), and the G68 long-wheelbase sedan. It represents the eighth generation of the BMW 5 Series, succeeding the G30 model and the G32 6 Series liftback.
The G60 was officially revealed on 24 May 2023, began production on 21 July 2023, with sales commencing in October. Built upon an updated version the rear-wheel drive Cluster Architecture (CLAR) platform, shared with the larger G70 7 Series, it is significantly larger than any of its predecessors. The eighth generation BMW 5 Series is also offered with a battery electric powertrain, called the "i5". Three models are offered; the entry-level, rear-wheel-drive eDrive40 model, the mid-range, all-wheel-drive xDrive40, and the range topping M60 xDrive model.
A long-wheelbase saloon model (G68) exclusive to China debuted in August 2023 and it is assembled at the Dadong plant. The G61 5 Series Touring was unveiled in February 2024. The fastback derivative, the 6 Series Gran Turismo has been discontinued.

Common Bmw I5 problems
The BMW i5 is a high-performance electric sedan that promises to be a formidable competitor in the EV market. Despite its many positive attributes, there are some drawbacks that potential buyers should be aware of.
One common problem with the BMW i5 is its price. While the price tag is decent for a top-of-the-line performance spec, it is still a significant investment. The i5 is more expensive to buy than a petrol-powered 5 Series, but it will be much cheaper to run, and for company car drivers, the tax incentives for running an electric car make picking the i5 over the regular 5 an easy choice.
Another issue with the BMW i5 is its reliability. While German cars are often thought of as reliable, the reality isn't quite so straightforward. BMW tends to finish in the midfield in reliability and ownership satisfaction surveys rather than at the top alongside the likes of Lexus. Some models fare better than others, though, and the previous 5 Series has a solid reputation for durability. That bodes well for the new i5. What's more, electric cars tend to be more reliable than petrols and diesels with fewer moving parts to go wrong. If problems occur, there's a three-year, unlimited-mileage warranty to fall back on, and an eight-year, 100,000-mile warranty for the battery.
The BMW i5's infotainment system has also been criticized for its complexity. While the system is powerful and feature-rich, it can be overwhelming for some users. The touchscreen, classic iDrive controller, voice control, and gesture control can all be used to interact with the system, but the gesture control can be difficult to master. Wireless Android Auto and Apple CarPlay integration are standard on all BMW 5 Series trims, but there have been some issues with Android Auto stopping responding, requiring the vehicle to be turned off and on again to resolve the issue.
The BMW i5's driving experience has also been criticized for being less engaging than some of BMW's greatest hits of the past. While the i5 is quick and handles well, it doesn't quite have the same level of driver engagement as some of BMW's other models. However, compared to other electric saloons, the i5 is pretty much as good as it gets, and if you need a bit more practicality, a BMW i5 Touring is coming later this year.
In summary, while the BMW i5 is a powerful and luxurious electric sedan, it is not without its problems. Its high price tag, reliability concerns, complex infotainment system, and less engaging driving experience are all factors that potential buyers should consider before making a purchase.

Bmw I5 2024
- Date Of Incident: 2024-01-19
- Date Complaint: 2024-02-23
- VIN: WBY43FK03RC
- Components: WHEELS
- Summary: I was driving east bound on [XXX] in the Chicago, IL area at the exit before [XXX]. I was driving the speed limit of 55 mph. The car hit a pot-hole and the right front tire shattered, meaning that the rim of the tire snapped into two pieces along the circumference of the rim. I am drawing your attention to this occurrence because a rim of the wheel shouldn't snap into two pieces after hitting a nominal pot-hole driving at normal speeds. The tire, the rim both had to be replaced and work was needed to test the car for further damage and to re-align the tires amounting to an expense of ~ $1,826. I believe the material strength of the metal of the rim of the wheel, is not specked correctly for normal road conditions. After hitting the pot hole, the car was extremely hard to control in order to drive to the side of the fast moving interstate highway. It was only by luck and my experience in driving that I was able to pull over in ~ 5 lanes of high speed traffic. The car is very heavy due to the battery in the car. It was essentially like driving a slab of cement with no directional capability. This is very dangerous and I am drawing this to your attention to prevent auto accidents that can cause human death. I hope you're doing well! I just wanted to share my experience with the I5. I've owned several luxury vehicles in the past, but I have to say that the I5 ranks at the top for its comfort and handling. My family and I have been driving it for about 2 months now, and we couldn't be happier with our choice. Thanks for taking the time to read my thoughts!
