Bmw 540d problems
The seventh generation of the BMW 5 Series consists of the BMW G30 (sedan version) and BMW G31 (wagon version, marketed as 'Touring') executive cars. The G30/G31 has been produced since 2016 by the German automaker BMW and is often collectively referred to as the G30. It was officially announced on 12 October 2016 and sales began in February 2017.
The fastback 5 Series Gran Turismo model from the previous generation is no longer part of the 5 Series model range, and has been moved to the 6 Series Gran Turismo nameplate. A long-wheelbase sedan version (model code G38) is sold in China.
On 27 May 2020, a facelifted 5 Series was unveiled. Although the 2021 BMW 5 Series is 1.2 inches longer than the 2020 model, many of the vehicle's other dimensions remain unchanged despite the styling redesign.
In 2023, the G30 5 Series was phased out in favor of the G60 5 Series. In 2024, the G31 was also phased out in favor of the new Touring model named G61.

Common Problems with BMW 540d Cars
BMW 540d cars are known for their powerful engines and luxurious features, but like any other vehicle, they can have their fair share of problems. Based on complaints from owners, here are some of the most common issues with BMW 540d cars:
- Costly Maintenance: Some BMW 540d owners have reported concerns about costly maintenance. This is especially true for those who have owned previous diesel BMW models, such as the 335d, and have experienced expensive repairs before the warranty expired.
- Engine and Transmission Issues: Engine and transmission problems are also a common complaint among BMW 540d owners. Some of the reported issues include leaking glycol coolant, which could create ignitable deposits and present a fire risk, and problems with the ball head connecting the brake pedal and the master brake cylinder, which could cause the brake lamps to be illuminated even while driving.
- Bodywork and Electrics: BMW 5 Series models, including the 540d, are known for their electronic toys and infotainment system. While these features can be enjoyable, they can also be a source of frustration if they don't work properly. Some BMW 540d owners have reported minor issues with the car's bodywork, such as kerb grazes on the alloy wheels, and problems with the car's infotainment system, such as buttons not working properly.
- Recalls: BMW has issued recalls for the 5 Series, including the 540d, for various issues, such as leaking glycol coolant, problems with the brake pedal, and issues with the curtain airbags. It's important to check with your local BMW dealer that all remedial work has been carried out.
