2009 Bmw 335d problems
The fifth generation of the BMW 3 Series range of compact executive cars is designated under the model codes E90 (saloon), E91 (estate, marketed as 'Touring'), E92 (coupé) and E93 (convertible). The model was introduced in December 2004, and produced by BMW until October 2013 and is often collectively referred to as the E90 or E9x.
The E9x saw the introduction of run-flat tyres to the 3 Series range. Models with run-flat tires are not equipped with a spare tyre. The E92 335i was the first 3 Series model produced with a turbocharged petrol engine. It was also the first 3 Series to include the iDrive operating system, which consists of navigation, infotainment and essential vehicle functions.
The E90/E92/E93 M3 is the only generation of M3 to be powered by a V8 engine. Introduced in 2007, it uses the BMW S65 naturally aspirated V8 engine and was produced in saloon, coupé and convertible body styles.
Following the introduction of the F30/F31 3 Series in February 2012, the E90/E91 saloons and estates were phased out. However due to their later introduction, the E92/E93 coupés and convertibles remained in production through the 2013 model year, after which they were replaced by the F32/F33 4 Series models.

Common 2009 Bmw 335d problems
The BMW 335d, a diesel-powered variant of the popular 3-Series, has been praised for its impressive performance and fuel efficiency. However, like any complex machinery, it is not without its issues. One of the most common problems reported by owners of the 2009 BMW 335d is carbon buildup (CBU) in the engine.
Carbon buildup is the accumulation of hard, black carbon material throughout the intake system, which can significantly reduce the intake tract's effective diameter. This reduction in diameter can lead to diminished power, erratic idle, increased fuel consumption, and eventually, a lit 'Check Engine' light with corresponding fault codes.
Addressing CBU in a BMW 335d involves a meticulous dismantling of the intake manifold, manually scraping off the carbon buildup, and thoroughly blasting the intake system with walnut shells. This method is effective as walnut shells are abrasive enough to remove the buildup yet soft enough to disintegrate, posing no harm to the engine.
Another issue reported by owners of the 2009 BMW 335d is related to the emissions equipment installed in these vehicles. The EGR system, which sends hot exhaust gases back into the intake, can cause carbon buildup faster than BMW anticipated, leading to potential engine damage and expensive repairs.
In summary, the 2009 BMW 335d is a powerful and efficient vehicle, but it is not without its issues. Carbon buildup and problems related to the emissions equipment are common complaints among owners. Regular maintenance, professional cleaning of the intake system, and aftermarket warranties can help mitigate these issues and ensure the longevity and performance of the vehicle.
Is the BMW 335d engine reliable?
Yes they are starting to get on in the years (that era) and do suffer from turbos, DPF issues and such, but seemingly less in fact than the rest of the range (the N57 with its timing chain issues for example, the 335d doesn't have). Full history, no galactic miles... go for it.
How much is maintenance on BMW 335d?
The annual maintenance cost of a BMW 335d is $1,113.
Which is better 330d or 335d?
Because the 3 Series is substantially lighter than those, it feels much quicker and can accelerate more quickly than many hot hatches. The key difference is that the 330d uses one turbocharger, while the 335d is twin-turbocharged. This gives them 255hp and 308hp respectively.
What engine does a 2009 BMW 335d have?
3.0 L 6-cylinder diesel2009 BMW 335d / Engine
The 2009 BMW 335d uses a common-rail diesel-injection system on a 3-liter, inline, six-cylinder engine, getting forced air from twin turbochargers.
How reliable is the 335d BMW?
DEF tank sensors are failure-prone and carbon buildup issues are common. The 335d is reasonably reliable for a BMW which is a fairly big qualifier. That being said, it's a wicked car once you're prepared to deal with those issues.
