Audi Tts problems
The Audi TT is a production front-engine, 2-door, 2+2 sports coupé and roadster, manufactured and marketed by Audi from 1998 to 2023 across three generations.
For each of its three generations, the TT has been based on consecutive generations of Volkswagen's "Group A" platforms, starting with its "PQ34" fourth generation. The TT shares powertrain and suspension layouts with its platform mates, including the Audi A3, like a transversely mounted front-engine, powering front-wheel drive or four-wheel drive, and fully independent suspension using MacPherson struts in front.
The TT's first two generations were assembled by Audi's Hungarian subsidiary, one of the world's largest engine manufacturing plants, using bodyshells manufactured and painted at Audi's Ingolstadt plant and parts made entirely by the Hungarian factory for the third generation.
The last of the 662,762 Audi TTs was manufactured in November 2023.

Common Audi Tts problems
The Audi TT is a popular sports car known for its stylish design and high-tech features. However, like any vehicle, it is not immune to certain problems. Here are some of the most common issues reported by Audi TT owners:
- Cam Belt: Not so much a problem with the car as with the manufacturer’s servicing recommendations. Audi informed owners to replace the cam belt in their TT every 80K miles. In fact, the part really needs changing every 60K miles, or can cause severe problems with the engine. If you are thinking of purchasing a second hand Audi TT check when the part was last replaced.
- Water Pump: Like the cam belt, the water pump on the Audi TT also has a 60K lifespan. Many online owner’s guides recommend that both parts should be changed at the same time. Therefore, it is definitely worth checking when the part was last replaced in the service history.
- Gearbox: When you take your second hand Audi TT for a test drive check the movement on the DSG gearbox. If it seems fairly hesitant and you cannot feel the trademark silky smooth motion that this part is supposed to give the then it is likely that the mechatronic unit is on its way out. An expensive repair; you will need to pay at least four figures for a reconditioned unit.
- Suspension: Listen carefully for a knocking sound when you are taking any second hand Audi TT on the road. It’s likely that any kind of bumping sound coming from the front of the car has its origins with faulty bushes. With the Audi TT this is usually the roll bar bushes and you’ll need to replace both the front wishbones and anti-roll bars.
- Coil Pack: When you leave your potential Audi TT purchase idling, does it misfire and give you a generally rough ride? If this is the case then the cause could well be a failed coil pack in the engine. This is a well-known issue with many models in the Audi range and requires you to locate the faulty coil before replacement.
- Electric Window Switch: There is an issue with the electric windows on the Audi TT. Make sure to check that all the electric windows work properly during a test drive.
- Water Leaks: There have been quite a few reports of TTs suffering from water leaks, usually caused by the drainage tubes for the roof blocking up and overflowing. These can lead to flooding inside the car that, if severe enough, can cause serious problems with the electrics. It’s therefore imperative to check for signs of water in the car; this could include damp carpets or upholstery, or water stains on the carpets or seats.
- Fuel Tank: The fuel tank could be damaged in the event of a collision, the fuel tank can be damaged on examples manufactured between 29 April 2014 and 24 May 2019. Find out from your local Audi dealer if your example is affected because it'll need to have a shield installed between the bracket and the tank itself to prevent it from being damaged.
- Recalls: There were 13 recalls on Audi TTs from 2000 to 2006, including one for an aftermarket water pump replacement problem that might cause the timing belt to break, causing the motor to cease working.
It is important to note that while these issues are common, not all Audi TTs will experience them. Regular maintenance and servicing can help prevent some of these problems. Additionally, some issues may be covered under warranty or recall campaigns.
What goes wrong with Audi TTS?
Check for kerb damage to the large alloys and any bodywork scuffs, as the TT will have been used with enthusiasm. Earlier cars had reported problems with wear to the side bolsters of the leather seats, as well as squeaking front brake pads, so it's worth looking out for both of those.
How long do Audi TTS last?
A well maintained AUDI can last a long time, for example up to twenty, thirty years and three to four hundred thousand miles. However, Audi is a high-end car. It takes a lot to maintain normal daily work. When they get damaged, you better sit back and listen to how much it costs to repair them.
Is an Audi TTS a good first car?
The Audi TT might be a dream car for lots of first-time drivers, but it might not be the most sensible option. If you can afford the running costs and aren't intimidated by the styling and power, however, the TT could be your perfect first car. Take a look at our Audi TT review to learn more.
Does Audi TTS have a timing belt or chain?
The 1.8T 20 valve engine is driven by a timing belt system that links the cylinder head, camshafts, and crankshaft to run in sync.

- Summary: I PURCHASED A CAR DECEMBER 27, 2019 FOR MY DAUGHTER. SHE DROVE IT FOR MAYBE 4 DAYS (JAN 2-5, 2020)AND STARTED FEELING SICK. AFTER RESEARCH IT IS WAS PROVEN TO BE CARBON MONOXIDE (I HAVE VIDEO). SHE WENT TO URGENT CARE WHERE SHE RECEIVED OVER AN HOUR OF OXYGEN AND BLOOD WORK. I CALLED THE DEALER AND WAS TOLD TO TAKE THE CAR TO GET IT CHECKED OUT BUT WASN'T OFFERED ANY COMPENSATION FOR THE WORK NEEDED TO FIGURE OUT THE CAUSE. AT THAT POINT I HIRED AN ATTORNEY TO TRY TO GET THE DEALER TO TAKE THE CAR BACK AND ISSUE A REFUND. I ALSO CONTACTED THE ILLINOIS ATTORNEY GENERAL TO REPORT THE DEALERSHIP. ALTHOUGH THE CARBON MONOXIDE IS THE MAJOR ISSUE THERE'S ALSO A LIGHT ON IN THE DASHBOARD AND A MESSAGE TO SERVICE THE CAR SOON. THE LIGHT INDICATOR IS AUDI MAGNETIC RIDE WHICH MEANS THERE'S A MALFUNCTION IN THE VEHICLE'S DAMPING. THE CHASSIS NEEDS TO BE INSPECTED IMMEDIATELY. WHEN I ASKED THE MGR ABOUT IT HE SAID THE CAR NEEDED WINDSHIELD WIPER FLUID. WITH ALL THESE PROBLEMS I CAN'T GET TAGS BECAUSE THE CAR WON'T PASS INSPECTION. THIS ALL TOOK PLACE IN THE FIRST WEEK OF OWNING THE CAR. MY ATTORNEY SENT A DEMAND LETTER OF A REFUND AND THE DEALER RESPONDED OFFERING TO PAY FOR REPAIRS. MY ATTORNEY ADVISED ME TO EMAIL THEM TO TRY TO GET THE COST OF THE DIAGNOSTIC TEST. I REQUESTED FOR THEM TO MAKE THE CHECK DIRECTLY TO THE COMPANY THAT WILL DO THE TEST AS WELL AS THE REPAIR. I HAVE YET TO GET A RESPONSE. I DON'T FEEL SAFE HAVING MY DAUGHTER DRIVING THIS CAR AND THE CAR HASN'T BEEN DRIVEN DUE TO THE DANGER IT HAS AND WILL CAUSE. PLEASE LET ME KNOW IF YOU CAN HELP ME. I'M NOT SURE WHAT TO DO NEXT. I CAN'T AFFORD AN ATTORNEY AND ALSO PAY THE CAR NOTE. MY ATTORNEY WAS HIRED TO WRITE THE LETTER BUT NOW I GUESS I'LL HAVE TO HIRE ONE FOR REPRESENTATION. YOU CAN EMAIL OR CALL ME AT [XXX]. INFORMATION REDACTED PURSUANT TO THE FREEDOM OF INFORMATION ACT (FOIA), 5 U.S.C. 552(B)(6). *TR

Wow! That's what everybody I give a ride to in the TTS says after taking it for a spin. It's hard to believe that it's just a '4 banger'. I've driven the 370Z, G37, M3, Cayman, Corvette, WRX, etc. but nothing compares to the TTS. It's a real machine now! I'm so glad that Audi doesn't advertise in the mainstream market and keeps these gems for true car enthusiasts.

If you're living in Canada with its 7 months of winter per year, the Quattro makes perfect sense for daily driving over long distances. My son and I tested several TT and TTS 2009 models for at least a year, and finally decided on the TTS Roadster 2010. We signed the deal on the same day as our last test drive. We've owned the car for 2 months now and have driven 4400 km so far. The car is an absolute dream to drive, performing amazingly in the city or on the highway. It's impossible not to get noticed while driving this car. My wife and I took the car for a long weekend, covering a 1600 km round trip. It was an excellent ride with the top down, and there was less noise in the cockpit when the screen was elevated. There was almost no noise when the windows were up.

Great! This car is so much fun for my family. My kids love it, and the way it handles is a dream. I would recommend this car to anyone who can afford it. But if you make lots of money, go for it! :)

I really love this car! Even though I've only had it for a few months, it has exceeded all my expectations. The ride is incredibly smooth and I can't believe I got it for only 50g!

The car is a great car, although it is a little pricey compared to its competitors. It boasts Audi's outstanding quality and build. My only complaint with the car is that I miss having a stick shift! However, the paddle shifter is outstanding and even a little faster than me (lol), but I still enjoy driving the car. Other than that, I give it an A+.
