Common Saturn Relay problems
Based on the information provided in the search results, here are common problems with Saturn Relay cars based on complaints from owners:
- Rapid Clicking Sounds: Another sign of a faulty starter relay in Saturn Relay cars is a series of rapid clicks when trying to start the engine. This rapid clicking indicates that the relay is not supplying enough current to engage the starter motor. This issue can be caused by burned-out contacts, worn-out leads, or an old relay that has lost its effectiveness.
- Starter Relay Remaining On: In some cases, the starter relay in Saturn Relay cars may remain on even after the engine has started. This can be due to the contacts fusing together from prolonged exposure to strong currents. If this issue is not addressed promptly, it can lead to damage to the starting system, requiring immediate attention from a mechanic.
- Occasional Engine Starting Failures: Owners of Saturn Relay cars may experience occasional and irregular engine starting failures. This can occur when the engine fails to start initially but starts when the ignition key is turned off and on again. This intermittent starting issue is often caused by dirt and debris buildup on the contacts or leads, affecting the current flow through the circuit.
These common problems with Saturn Relay cars related to the starter relay can significantly impact the vehicle's performance and reliability. It is essential for owners to be aware of these issues and address them promptly to ensure the proper functioning of their vehicles.

WITH THE NUMEROUS COMPLAINTS ON THE INTERNET - I WAS THINKING THAT SURELY A TSB OR RECALL ON THESE ISSUES HAS BEEN OVERLOOKED OR SIMPLY IGNORED BY THE MECHANICS AND SERVICE WRITERS AT THE GM DEALERSHIPS NATIONWIDE. I KNOW THAT A TECH LL SCANNER IS REQUIRED TO CHECK FOR ANY TROUBLE CODES FOR THESE VERY COMPLEX SYSTEMS, BUT WHAT IS THE KNOWN DEFINITIVE FIX FOR THESE POTENTIALLY SERIOUS PROBLEMS ? THE LIGHTS AND MESSAGES BEGAN APPEARING AFTER MODERATE BRAKING AND WHILE VEHICLE IS/WAS IN MOTION OR STATIONARY WHILE TURNING OR ON A STRAIGHT AHEAD STRETCH OF ROADWAY. VARIED ROAD CONDITIONS AND WET OR DRY WEATHER CONDITIONS WERE SEEMINGLY NOT CONTRIBUTING FACTORS.

Great Minivan! It's almost problem-free and fun and easy to drive. Although, there are occasional issues with the power sliding doors and the rear windshield wiper has stopped working. Additionally, it makes a 'groaning' sound when making sharp or tight turns.

We've had our Relay for a year now and it's been great! The dealership warranty covered a door motor and a radio without any questions. Everyone who rides in the car comments on how comfortable the 2nd row captain's seats are. I really appreciate the pickup and the rear ultrasonic sensors, they make parking in tight spots a breeze. And of course, the kids absolutely love the DVD player. Overall, we're really happy with the car and the way we've been treated.

We are so glad we chose a Saturn Relay! With four kids, finding a vehicle that works for everyone was a top priority. Luckily, we made the right choice. The kids each have their own favourite seats and love to stay entertained on long rides with movies, music, and video games, all with the option of using dual channel wireless headphones. Driving the Relay is a breeze - it handles great and sits at the perfect height off the ground. We couldn't be happier with our decision!

Vehicle year: 2005
This car has been so reliable and comfortable! With nearly 82,000 miles on it, I've only had to replace the rear wiper motor (after the warranty expired) and do some normal wear and tear service. It's been a great ride!

I have never owned a better vehicle! I bought it in 2006 with 13000 miles and it has yet to break down. It has also been through 3 kids and is still going strong. It's the perfect go-to mini van and I still drive it every day to work. It's amazing that it's still on its original alternator, engine, transmission, and starter. I have only had to change the oil, brakes, and battery. SERIOUSLY!!!

We purchased the Relay after owning two other Saturns, but unfortunately, we experienced numerous issues with this vehicle. Despite having to replace the rear parking sensors, automatic door motors, tie rods, ABS sensors, back windshield wiper motor, DVD player, and needing new brakes and tires within the first year of ownership, the vehicle still experienced problems such as flickering lights, OnStar failure, and difficulty starting. These issues caused the vehicle to spend more time in the shop than on the road. However, we are confident in our decision to move on from this vehicle and explore other options.

This car has had several issues since we bought it new, including problems with the sliding doors, flickering dash lights, and unreliable air conditioning. Additionally, the car rolled downhill and hit a neighbor's tree while parked with the engine running. Despite these challenges, we have taken care of necessary repairs such as a full brake replacement at 50K miles. While there are still some minor issues such as a dead spot in acceleration and a non-functioning back wiper, overall this car is reliable and has served us well.
Tobin Turner 2025-03-05
Vehicle year: 2007
This van has been a complete disappointment. Despite having it serviced four times for a popping/clicking noise in the front end while it was under warranty, the issue was never resolved. Unfortunately, the problem persists even after the warranty has expired. Additionally, the service engine light came on shortly after the warranty expired, and the computer code indicates that the catalytic converter is not functioning properly. To make matters worse, the transmission is now slipping horribly, despite the van being driven carefully. It is clear that this van is a lemon, and unfortunately, it seems that many others have had similar experiences based on the other reviews.
Monserrate Hickle 2025-03-04
Vehicle year: 2006
Our Saturn Relay has been a great vehicle to drive and carry the crew around in. It has good acceleration and handling for a large vehicle. However, we have noticed that the trim needs some attention. The exterior trim is peeling off and the door trim and plastic mouldings behind the sliding doors peel off when the door opens. Additionally, the interior trim around both front doors is broken and has fallen off, which is quite inconvenient.
Jeffrey Daniel 2025-02-14
Vehicle year: 2005
This car has had multiple issues, including peeling side paneling, ABS system problems, and a faulty remote sliding door. Unfortunately, the engine recently blew while I was out of state. Despite there being a bulletin about this issue, it was not considered a recall due to the low number of reported incidents. With only 26,000 miles on the car, I am concerned for the safety of my two children. Additionally, the child lock on the rear door has locked on its own, creating a potentially dangerous situation. It is clear that this car requires immediate attention and resolution.
