Common Saturn Aura hybrid problems
The Saturn Aura Hybrid, produced from 2007 to 2010, has been known to have various issues reported by its owners. Below are some of the most common problems found in the Saturn Aura Hybrid, based on the complaints from the car owners.
- Transmission Shifting Failure: The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) has received reports of transmission shifting failures in 2007 and 2008 Saturn Auras, including the Aura Hybrid.
In summary, the Saturn Aura Hybrid has several common problems reported by its owners, including issues with the automatic transmission, EVAP vent valve, cooling fan fuse, wheel bearings, combination switch, brakes, and transmission shifting failure. These issues can lead to various symptoms, such as check engine light, harsh shifting, no reverse, vibration, noise, and collisions. It is essential to address these issues promptly to avoid further damage and ensure the safety of the vehicle's occupants.
Is the Saturn Aura reliable?
This car is known to be reliable. The exterior and interior are nothing too fancy but it has the necessities (functioning windows, A/C, mid size sedan space, decent trunk space, etc). Saturn is no longer in business so some have had issues finding parts and repairs may be expensive.
How many miles can a Saturn Aura last?
If you're hoping to hit 200,000 miles in your Aura, that isn't totally unreasonable, but you should expect a maximum mileage closer to 150,000 if you're buying a used model. The car can last for years to come if you take excellent care of it, but it's a lot easier to keep a Toyota or a Honda running than a Saturn.

THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO A MECHANIC WHO DIAGNOSED THAT THE FUEL PUMP MODULE NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. - VIN: 1G8ZR57509F
- Components: FUEL/PROPULSION SYSTEM
- Summary: POSSIBLE LEAK IN AREA OF FUEL TANK, STRONG ODOR OF GASOLINE, ESPECIALLY AFTER DRIVING FOR ANY LENGTH OF TIME. I BELIEVE THE SEAL BETWEEN THE FUEL TANK AND THE FUEL PUMP IS LEAKING. IT APPEARS TO BE THE SAME PROBLEM WITH THE SATURN ION (RECALL NUMBER 12V459000).

Saturn Aura hybrid 2008
- Date Of Incident: 2013-11-06
- Date Complaint: 2013-11-07
- VIN: 1G8ZR57538F
- Components: ELECTRICAL SYSTEM,EXTERIOR LIGHTING
- Summary: SIMILAR TO THE REASON FOR THE RECALL ON THE PONTIAC G6, MY SATURN'S BRAKE LIGHTS WORK IN REVERSE AT TIMES. WHEN THE CRUISE CONTROL DISENGAGES OR REFUSES TO ENGAGE, THE BRAKE LIGHTS COME ON WITHOUT APPLYING THE BRAKE PEDAL. WHEN THE BRAKE PEDAL IS DEPRESSED, THE BRAKE LIGHTS GO OUT. IF IS ONLY A MATTER OF TIME BEFORE I GET REAR-ENDED. FROM WHAT I UNDERSTAND, THE "FIX" ON THE PONTIAC G6 WAS ONLY A TEMPORARY FIX AND THESE DRIVERS FACE SIMILAR CONSEQUENCES ONCE AGAIN. *TR

This car drives nicely, is solid, and quiet. I'm getting an overall average of about 29 MPG. However, I noticed that the battery and electric motor don't seem to be contributing enough to move the car. While the battery gets charged easily and the gasoline engine stops when you come to a stop, the discharge of the battery in highway driving or accelerating is weak. Despite this, I still think it's a reasonable value for the price. Thank you for sharing your experience with us!

This is a GM vehicle, so parts are readily available if needed. It is comparable to Chevrolet models and comes with all the bells and whistles, as well as great gas mileage. I am sorry to hear that the new owner is not taking good care of it.

The gas mileage could be better, but on the positive side, the car looks great, is comfortable, and has a great interior setup with a well-designed center console and radio. It's worth noting that I calculate my mileage every time and it gets around 20 city and 27 Hwy.

The gas mileage of the Saturn hybrid is only 10-15% better than the non-hybrid Saturn, which is much lower than the 40% better gas mileage achieved by the Honda Civic and Toyota Prius hybrids compared to their non-hybrid versions. The Saturn hybrid system is belt-driven from the heavy-duty alternator-generator when the gas engine shuts off at intersection red lights, which is why it is called the 'Half-Hybrid' by Chevrolet dealers. After stopping, the Saturn hybrid can only run at 2mph on battery, while the Toyota Prius can run at 20mph. The Saturn Hybrid battery is also much smaller. Additionally, the tax credit for the Saturn hybrid is only half of that for the Honda Civic hybrid. General Motors has restricted their dual-stage hybrid to their large SUV gas guzzlers and pickup trucks, which is disappointing. However, it is important to note that the Saturn hybrid still offers some benefits in terms of fuel efficiency and environmental impact.

As a four-time Saturn buyer, I was hoping for more from my 2009 Saturn Aura hybrid, but unfortunately, it's just okay. While it does get better mileage than my former VUE SUV, which is great, I'm still only averaging about 25 mpg, despite its rating of 28/33. The acceleration is mediocre, and it's not as impressive as I had hoped. However, I'm looking forward to the Chevrolet Volt once the bugs are worked out. I'm excited about the good mileage and low carbon footprint it promises, which is exactly what I'm looking for.
