Nissan Crew cab problems
The Nissan Frontier is a nameplate used by Nissan in several regions as an alternative to the Navara and NP300 nameplates. In North America, the nameplate was used from 1997 to 2021, replacing the Hardbody. Since 2021, the Frontier sold in the US and Canada has been a separate model distinct from the globally marketed Navara/Frontier. It is larger and more developed to cater to the needs of the North American market.
Parallel models (D22, D40; 1997–2021)
The D22 Frontier was introduced in the US and Canada in 1997 to replace the D21 Hardbody. In other markets, the D22 Frontier is also called the Navara, Frontier Navara, NP300, Hardbody, or PickUp, among others. It was replaced by the D40 Frontier in 2004 for the 2005 model year, which was produced in the US for both the US and Canadian markets up to the 2021 model year. Both generations were mostly identical to the global version offered by Nissan elsewhere, with minor changes for the North American market.
When the D23 Navara was introduced for the global market in 2014, a Nissan North America spokesperson restated that the D23 is not indicative of a D40 Frontier replacement for the North American market.

Common Nissan Crew cab problems
Nissan Frontier owners have reported several common problems with their vehicles, including issues with the evaporative emissions system, fuel leaks, timing issues, and transmission slipping out of gear into neutral.
One of the most frequent problems reported by Nissan Frontier owners is with the evaporative emissions system, which can set off the check engine light. This issue is most common in Frontier models manufactured from 2014 to 2017. The system can malfunction due to leaks, dust and dirt accumulation inside the valve, or a broken canister. The seals are the most likely component to fail and require replacement. Nissan has conducted some evap-related recalls, but the Frontier was not included in those. The system must be cleaned of dirt and dust right away to prevent further problems, and the charcoal canister should be cleaned or replaced if it becomes clogged.
Another common problem reported by Nissan Frontier owners is fuel leaks. Specific 2022 Nissan Frontier models were recalled in November 2021 due to a manufacturing flaw that could cause a leaf spring to pierce the fuel tank if the vehicle struck an object, resulting in a fuel leak. This issue is accompanied by the vehicle erratically spamming the dashboard warning.
Timing issues were a serious problem in earlier Frontier models but are still present in some form in the second generation of the Frontier. Owners of Frontier models from 2014 and 2015 reported hearing strange noises coming from the front of the truck. Nissan issued a service bulletin to address this problem, which is caused by a defective secondary timing chain that has become loose over time and is now making strange noises in the engine bay.
Transmission slipping out of gear into neutral is another common problem reported by Nissan Frontier owners. This issue can occur in any gear range and is often accompanied by a hard downshift when the throttle is let off. This problem can be caused by a faulty shifter assembly or a problem with the transmission itself.
In addition to these common problems, Nissan Frontier owners have also reported issues with engine stalling, the vehicle going into limp mode, engine fires, wiring harness issues, problems with the rearview camera, ignition switch issues, AEB issues, the car rolling away when in park, tank splashing fuel out while refueling, and seats issues.
It is important for Nissan Frontier owners to be aware of these common problems and to address them promptly to prevent further damage to their vehicles. Regular maintenance and inspections can help identify these issues before they become serious problems.

- Summary: POWER DOOR WINDOWS BEGIN "STICKING" WHILE POWERING UP AND EVENTUALLY FAIL AND GET STUCK. THIS HAPPENED ON MY FRIEND'S TRUCK JUST 2 WEEKS BEFORE MINE. OURS WERE MANUFACTURED JUST A FEW MONTHS APART AND IT HAPPENED ON BOTH OF MY WINDOWS (FRONT) WITHIN A WEEK OF EACH OTHER. A SMALL PLASTIC END ON THE WIRES USED TO "PULLEY" THE WINDOWS BREAKS AND ALLOWS THE WIRE TO WRAP IMPROPERLY AROUND THE WINDOW MOTOR'S INTERNAL PULLEY RESULTING IN WIRES OVERLAPPING AND EVENTUALLY WEDGING WITHIN THE MOTOR. THIS SHOWS ME THAT THIS IS A FLAW IN THE MANUFACTURERS WINDOW MOTORS ON NOT ONLY MY FRONTIER, BUT OTHERS I HAVE MET.*AK
