Kia Seltos problems

The Kia Seltos (Korean: 기아 셀토스) is a subcompact crossover SUV manufactured by Kia. Introduced in mid-2019, the Seltos is positioned between the smaller Stonic, Soul, or Sonet and the larger Sportage in Kia's global SUV lineup.
The Seltos is designated as a global product with three variations introduced for different markets. The first variation is the largest version of the Seltos, which is manufactured in South Korea (codename: SP2) mainly aimed at developed markets, including North America and Australasia. The two other variations are the Indian-made Seltos (codename: SP2i) and the closely related Chinese version badged as the Kia KX3 (codename: SP2c). The SP2i and SP2c models are the low-cost versions of the Seltos to penetrate emerging markets, built on the Hyundai-Kia K2 platform and closely related to the second-generation Hyundai Creta/ix25. Despite being a globally marketed model, the Seltos is not sold in the European market.
The name "Seltos" is derived from "Celtos", the son of Hercules and Celtine in Greek mythology. According to Kia, the Seltos will be marketed to millennials.

Common Kia Seltos problems
The Kia Seltos, a popular subcompact SUV, has been reported to have several common problems by its owners. These issues range from engine stalling to transmission overheating, and they can significantly impact the safety and reliability of the vehicle.
One of the most common problems with the Kia Seltos is engine stalling. The engine is prone to stalling while stopped and even during acceleration, which can create a significant safety hazard for the driver and other motorists, especially if it occurs on the highway. The exact cause behind these engine problems is not well understood, but they are closely linked to the fuel-saving features of the vehicle. The engine has also exhibited acceleration delays, which can be dangerous during transitions such as merging into traffic or navigating a busy intersection.
Another issue that has been reported by Kia Seltos owners is transmission overheating. Many buyers have complained that they are getting a message on the MID (multi-information display) that says "Transmission temperature is high. Stop Safely." This problem has been experienced by both manual and automatic transmission variants of the Seltos. If the transmission temperature becomes too high, it can cause the vehicle to go into "limp mode," which significantly reduces its power and speed.
In addition to engine and transmission problems, the Kia Seltos has also been reported to have issues with its fuel-saving feature. The Seltos is equipped with a popular but problematic feature that is designed to save fuel by stopping the engine when the vehicle is idle and restarting it when the driver releases the brake. However, this feature has been known to cause the engine to shut off unexpectedly, leaving the driver stranded. In some instances, drivers are unable to turn their vehicles back on, which can be a significant safety hazard.
Furthermore, some Kia Seltos owners have reported problems with the vehicle's infotainment system. In some cases, the infotainment system has been known to go off completely, while in other cases, it has displayed incorrect information. This can be a significant inconvenience for drivers, as the infotainment system is responsible for controlling many of the vehicle's functions, such as the radio, navigation, and climate control.
Lastly, there have been reports of quality concerns with the Kia Seltos. Some owners have reported issues with the vehicle's paint, trim, and interior materials. These issues can significantly impact the vehicle's appearance and overall quality, and they can be costly to repair.
In conclusion, the Kia Seltos has been reported to have several common problems by its owners. These issues include engine stalling, transmission overheating, problems with the fuel-saving feature, issues with the infotainment system, and quality concerns. While the Seltos is considered to be reliable by most of its owners, these issues can significantly impact the safety and reliability of the vehicle. If you are considering purchasing a Kia Seltos, it is important to be aware of these common problems and to have them addressed by a qualified mechanic if they occur.
Does Kia Seltos have any problems?
Kia Seltos engine problems include stalling. The Kia Seltos engine is prone to stalling while stopped and even during acceleration. That can create a significant safety hazard for you and other drivers, especially if you are cruising down the highway and your engine suddenly stalls out.
Is the Kia Seltos a reliable car?
The 2024 Kia Seltos has a predicted reliability score of 87 out of 100. A J.D. Power predicted reliability score of 91-100 is considered the Best, 81-90 is Great, 70-80 is Average and 0-69 is Fair and considered below average.
What is the disadvantage of Kia Seltos?
For 2024, the uplevel 1.6-liter turbocharged four-cylinder engine gained 20 hp and is now paired with an eight-speed automatic. Front-wheel drive is standard, and all-wheel drive is optional. The stiff ride and loud cabin are two significant drawbacks.
How many miles will a Kia Seltos last?
How long do Kia Seltoses last? You can expect a typical Kia Seltos to last around 200,000 miles, placing the high mileage point at 150,000 and the good mileage point at 125,000. While this number isn't exceptional, the Kia Seltos is still a solid offering if you're hunting for decent longevity on the market.

- Summary: This is a problem that has occurred in several Kia models. While driving all of a sudden all the warning lights from every safety related item come on and at the same time the power steering goes off as well as the air conditioner. Sometimes if you stop the car and restart the engine everything returns to normal other times it does not and occasionally the shifter locks itself in park. I have taken it to the Kia dealer twice and they "repaired" it one time and the problem continued. The second time no problem codes were shown in the OBD and they said there was nothing they could do. We have limited our driving this car because it is a ticking time bomb. A quick look at the Seltos forum shows that many owners have reported this problem. Please go to this link below. I've had my Seltos for six months and have only driven 2,200 miles. It's a fantastic CUV for the price! I chose the FWD S model since I live in sunny Arizona and rarely drive on non-paved roads or in snow. The Seltos drives great and offers a variety of advanced safety features. Although I wish LED headlights and blind-spot monitoring were available on all trims, I'm still happy with my purchase. I turned off lane keep assist and auto start/stop since they were both annoying, but I'm glad I have the option to turn off auto start/stop. I do wish the Seltos would remember my driving mode preference after each restart. However, I love the Apple CarPlay integration and find the infotainment system easy to navigate. The Seltos drives smoothly and quietly on the highway, and the acceleration is more than adequate for a non-turbo model. Although I wish there was an option to add a cover to the hatch area, the interior cabin is spacious and I appreciate the adjustable cargo floor. I especially love the overall look of the Seltos, especially in Neptune Blue (the color of mine), Starbright Yellow, or Mars Orange. Despite the few things I wish were different, I absolutely love my Seltos and would buy it again today. If you're considering a CUV, it's definitely worth checking out and cross-shopping.

I test drove a 2023 white Kia Seltos with plum interior and fell completely in love. It's a turbo, so it's peppy and a very comfortable ride. Even my boyfriend, who has a 2020 Lexus RC350 and is hard to please, became smitten with it after he drove it. It's a great car!

As someone who previously owned a Sorento Lx 2015, I really appreciate smaller and more agile vehicles with a sharper turning radius. The 2-liter engine with intelligent cvt provides more acceleration than expected, easily reaching redline in sport mode. Although I wished the driver's seat was electric, I understand that the Lx is Lx. The styling and finish of the car give me a sense of pride in ownership. The engine is modern and has solid components. It's unfortunate that Canadians receive a shorter warranty of 60,000 miles compared to 100,000 miles. Additionally, there are a few missing utilities that cost pennies, such as a trunk 12v outlet and rear seat USB. Overall, I believe this car is one of the leaders in its price bracket.

Compared to other small SUVs we tried, the Seltos was much quieter and rode smoother. The ride is similar to that of a larger car. I love it! The features are just right, the interior is pleasant, and the controls are nice. The car handles nimbly and is easy to drive - which was my wife's reason for buying it. It has enough power, good mileage, and the AWD she wanted for rainy weather. KIA has definitely hit a home run with this one!

Vehicle year: 2022
I purchased this car in August 2020 and initially enjoyed driving it. However, after a few months, I began experiencing issues with the oil. Despite taking it back to the dealership multiple times, the problem persisted and I also noticed a loud clicking noise when accelerating. Unfortunately, the car broke down on the highway recently, but I was able to get it home after restarting it. While I have been a Kia owner since 2010, this experience has been frustrating and disappointing. Despite the dealership's inability to identify the issue and Kia's reluctance to address it, I remain confident that a solution can be found.

Vehicle year: 2021
The vehicle, which is less than a year old and has only 5k miles, required a new transmission. Despite waiting for months, a new transmission was eventually installed. However, after just 2 months, it began slipping again and is now unable to be driven even in sport mode.

My daughter has experienced numerous issues with her 2022 Kia Seltos, particularly with the controls in the vehicle. They often stop working, leaving her unsure if the lights, blinker, horn, and other features are functioning. Fortunately, she is able to use her cell phone to monitor her speed. Despite her reliance on the vehicle for her daily commute, it has been difficult to schedule appointments with the dealership for repairs. Unfortunately, by the time she is able to bring the car in, the controls are working again, and she is told that nothing can be done until they malfunction again. This has been a frustrating and time-consuming process, especially since the dealership is unable to provide a rental vehicle. However, we remain confident that a solution can be found to address these issues.

Vehicle year: 2023
Pros: This car has a lot of up-to-date interior tech and comes with standard safety features and wireless apple carplay. It is also very spacious and can fit a lot of work equipment or groceries. The MPG is higher than what the specs specified. Cons: The car handles poorly and struggles to take small curves at more than 20mph. It can only handle around 800lbs of weight inside the car, which can make it difficult to accelerate with a full car. Maintenance can be challenging, especially with the oil dipstick. The engine is not very reliable and can start sounding like an old diesel engine with less than 10000 miles. The built quality under the hood is poor. Conclusion: This car is decent for city driving, but not recommended for highways or country roads. It is not a comfortable or practical ride for longer distances. I ended up trading it for a Subaru Forester!

Vehicle year: 2022
I leased a 2022 Kia Seltos SX Turbo AWD on June 10, 2022. Unfortunately, on day 6, I experienced an instrument cluster fault which was very strange. When I engaged the navigation, the entire dashboard began to turn on and off, showing empty on the fuel gauge, zero on the speedometer and tachometer. I brought it in for repair and have been waiting for almost 3 weeks for the ordered part, a new instrument cluster, to be shipped from South Korea. Despite this setback, I still absolutely love this vehicle. It's a real compact beauty of an SUV with great handling and a nice kick for such a small engine. I'm hoping this issue gets resolved as soon as possible, but I've heard from a mechanic that this is a known problem that has something to do with humidity getting into the cluster module. As of July 22, I still haven't received any updates, but I'm remaining optimistic.
