Daewoo Nubira problems

Daewoo Nubira is a compact car which was produced by the South Korean automaker Daewoo from 1997 to 2002 as a 4-door sedan, 5-door hatchback and a 5-door station wagon.
Development
The Daewoo Nubira (J100 platform) was released in 1997 reflecting Daewoo's new found design and manufacturing process. Production took under 30 months by ex-Porsche and BMW engineering chief Dr. Ulrich Bez (later of Aston Martin), with Daewoo's growing in-house R&D network in Korea, Worthing and Munich collaborating with the world's best engineering consultancies. Styling was done by I.DE.A Institute in Italy, and other companies involved in the development programme included Ricardo and GM Holden. Built in Kunsan, South Korea in a factory equipped with sophisticated laser-guided robots, it was developed as a replacement. People weren't entirely sure what was the replacement, but Daewoo said that not only did it replace the lower and medium specification of the Espero, but also those at the upper end line-up of the Nexia.
Overview
The name Nubira (누비라) is the command form of the Korean verb Nubida (누비다), meaning to crisscross. Thus the name was chosen to convey the aspiration that this car would be seen crisscrossing every corner of the globe.
The Nubira II (J150) (facelift) was released for the model year 2000. Over 90 improvements were made by Daewoo's Worthing Technical Centre in the United Kingdom, including an increase in passenger space and a decrease in noise, harshness and vibration (by adding a fourth engine mount and retuning the intake resonators for example). Offset crash performance was further improved in the second generation, as demonstrated by Australian ANCAP tests, though it fell well short of exemplary performance. The exterior was reworked, including the revamped front, a more angular rear and door mirrors creating a more dynamic upright and swept look of the era, a design later seen reflected by the Lexus ES350 and 2004 Mitsubishi Diamante.
International market Nubiras had a choice of a Daewoo "E-Tec" 1.3,"E-Tec" 1.6, or Holden 1.8 or 2.0-litre inline-four gasoline engines: no diesel version was ever offered, although the Worthing Technical Centre installed Renault's F8 1.9-litre engine in a small number of test vehicles, under a development programme known as J151.
The Nubira was also briefly produced from CKD kits on Taganrog, Russia TagAZ factory; it was marketed as the Doninvest Orion by the Russian automaker Doninvest. Until 2008, Daewoo Nubira was produced in Romania in a former Daewoo factory which had the licence from GM Daewoo. The Daewoo Nubira was still produced in Egypt in 2008, in a former Daewoo factory which has the licence from GM Daewoo.
The Nubira was replaced in 2004 with the J200 Daewoo Lacetti, under GMDAT management with a new Pininfarina-designed body offered as a sedan, station wagon, and Italdesign hatchback. It was sold in some European markets as the Chevrolet Nubira and in the United States as the Suzuki Forenza and Reno.

Common Daewoo Nubira problems
The Daewoo Nubira is a compact car produced between 1997 and 2002, known for its affordability and ease of maintenance. However, like any car, it has its share of common problems.
One common issue reported by owners of the first-generation Nubira (1997-1999) is related to the car's engine, specifically problems with the head gasket, which can cause oil leaks and reduced engine performance. Other engine-related issues reported by first-generation Nubira owners include problems with the car's timing belt, which can cause engine damage if it fails, and problems with the car's valve cover gasket, which can cause oil leaks.
For second-generation Nubira owners (2000-2002), electrical issues are one of the most commonly reported problems. Owners reported issues with the car's central locking system, power windows, and other electrical accessories. Other common issues reported by second-generation Nubira owners include problems with the car's transmission, fuel system, brakes, and suspension.
A specific issue reported by owners of both generations of the Nubira is related to the crankshaft position sensor. This part can overheat and burn out the capacitor, causing difficulties starting the car and triggering the engine management warning light on the dashboard. This issue was subject to a recall, and a new revised crankshaft position sensor needs to be fitted to resolve the issue.
Another common problem reported by Nubira owners is related to the car's air vents, which can only emit hot air, even when turned to the cold setting. This issue is caused by a faulty temperature switch, which is a common fault on the Nubira and is inexpensive and simple to fix.
In addition to these issues, the Daewoo Nubira has been reported to have problems with its timing belt, which can cause engine damage if it fails, and issues with the car's lower control, which can cause problems even after replacement.
Overall, while the Daewoo Nubira is generally regarded as a reliable and affordable car, potential buyers should be aware of these common issues and have the car thoroughly inspected by a qualified mechanic to identify any potential problems before making a purchase. Regular maintenance and checks can help prolong the life of the car and prevent further damage.

How much horsepower does a Daewoo Nubira have?
Producing 136 lb⋅ft (184 N⋅m) torque at 4,400 rpm, the GM Family-II engine had a square 3.4" stroke and a 3.4" bore and at 5,400 rpm making 129 bhp (96 kW; 131 PS).
What is the fuel consumption of a 2001 Daewoo Nubira?
Fuel consumption for the 2001 Daewoo Nubira is dependent on the type of engine, transmission, or model chosen. The Daewoo Nubira currently offers fuel consumption from 8.1 to 9.3L/100km.
What is the problem with the 1999 Daewoo Lanos?
The 1999 Daewoo Lanos is a cheap inner city run around but that's about as good as it gets. It struggles to make it up even the slightest incline and sometimes struggles off the mark. There is a common problem with the heater core and the hoses needed to be re-routed to prevent it from leaking into the car.

I CAME TO KNOW ABOUT A RECALL REGARDING MY VEHICLE MODEL ON THE CAMSHAFT SENSOR AND TOOK IT TO A DEALERSHIP FOR REPAIR. - Date Of Incident: 2008-02-04
- Date Complaint: 2008-02-04
- VIN: KLAJB52Z91K
- Components: SUSPENSION
- Summary: THE DAEWOO NUBIRA 2001 SHOULD BE RECALLED TO REPLACE LOWER CONTROL ARMS WHICH ARE ATTACHED TO THE SUSPENSION. I FEEL THE CONTROL ARMS' INADEQUACIES ARE CATASTROPHES WAITING TO HAPPEN. THE CONTROL ARMS ARE FAULTY AND COULD CAUSE STEERING FAILURE. THIS IS A PART THAT IS REPLACED ON THIS CAR MODEL TOO OFTEN. WHAT HAPPENS IF SOMEONE DOES NOT HAVE $700 TO PAY FOR REPAIR? I ASK THIS BECAUSE WHEN I DRIVE THE DAEWOO IT IS INCREASING DIFFICULT TO HOLD IT ON THE ROAD DUE TO THE FRONT END RACK AND PINION STEERING JERKING LEFT AND RIGHT. I LIMIT MY DRIVING TO THE SUPERMARKET AND SMALL ERRANDS BECAUSE OF THIS PROBLEM, AND BECAUSE OF THIS DEFECT I DRIVE SLOWLY AND ON SMALL STREETS. GETTING ON THE HIGHWAY IS COMPLETELY OUT OF THE QUESTION. I WAS TOLD BY THE TECHNICIAN AT MOTOR CITY, ODESSA, TEXAS, 432-550-8721, THAT THE BALL JOINT MAY FALL FROM THE FRAME CAUSING LOSS OF CONTROL. I NEED REPLACEMENT OF THESE CRUCIAL PARTS. I CAN LIVE WITH PEELING PAINT, BARELY FUNCTIONING ELECTRIC WINDOWS, AND A NON FUNCTIONING AIR CONDITIONER, BUT I CANNOT LIVE WITH A STEERING PROBLEM THAT IS VEERING OUT OF CONTROL. I KNOW THAT DAEWOO IS NO LONGER IN BUSINESS - BUT GMC IS. I ALSO KNOW THAT THE RATIO OF DAEWOOS TO OTHER AUTOMOBILES ON THE ROAD IS LOW; HOWEVER, ANY FUNCTION OR PART ON A PRODUCT THAT MAY CAUSE EVEN ONE ACCIDENT DUE TO MECHANICAL FAILURE SHOULD BE TAKEN SERIOUSLY BY YOUR DEPARTMENT. AN ACCIDENT CAUSED BY A MALFUNCTIONING STEERING MECHANISM ON ANY AUTOMOBILE MAY LEAD TO SOMEONE'S DEATH. *TR

I'm so glad to hear that you've had such a positive experience with your Daewoo! It sounds like it's been a reliable and well-performing car for you, which is great to hear. I can definitely understand how it might be frustrating that Daewoo left the US market after bankruptcy, but it's wonderful that you haven't had any issues with your car and it hasn't needed much service. It's also impressive that you've driven it cross-country three times! It must have a really comfortable ride and perform well under all conditions.

I've had my car for 5 years now and it's been great! The engine and transmission have never given me any problems and it's still going strong with over 100,000 miles. The only issues I've had are with the AC, which goes in and out (just a minor issue, I'm sure), and the control arm bushings need to be replaced every 30k-80k miles. I paid $350 to have the driver side bushing and alignment replaced, but I was able to replace the passenger bushing myself over a weekend for only $35. The part shipped quickly from Daewoo and it was an easy fix for a do-it-yourselfer. The suspension design puts a lot of stress on the bushings, but that's also what makes the car handle and ride so nicely. I'm still amazed at how nice it is to drive. I absolutely love my Daewoo!

If you're searching for a fantastic little car, this is the one. For the price of a base model Honda or Toyota, you can have all the extras, including a leather interior. In my 20 years of driving experience, I have owned 16 cars, and this one has been the least disappointing. With almost 65k miles, it has required nothing more than routine maintenance. I chose Daewoo mainly for its value, gas mileage, and the dealer who went above and beyond to give me the maximum value for my trade.

I bought my Nubira Wagon brand new in January 2001, and it has been a dream to drive ever since. I drive 70 miles a day to work, and it has never let me down. Any repairs that were needed were completed with minimal hassle, mostly due to the dealer's fault. The parts come from the Daewoo Parts Division in California, and the body is in great shape with no rust, even in a snowy climate where road salt is hard on cars. I have made six trips to Georgia (1200 miles) and have always been comfortable. The sound system is terrific, and all luxury extras were included in the price. It's a shame they no longer sell it in the US!!

I put a lot of miles on my cars. I absolutely love my Daewoo! It has great power, mileage, handling, and comfort. Even though I didn't know much about Daewoo, I decided to buy it because of its affordable price and all the features it came with. After driving it for a month, I can confidently say that it has exceeded my expectations. It's been an incredible little car and the quality for the price is amazing!

Engine: The engine can be quite noisy and vibrate in the lower gear range. Suspension: You may feel bumps more than you would like. Interior: The handles and CD/Radio may feel a bit cheap. Exterior: The front wheels can be difficult to keep clean. Verdict: Have you considered the Hyundai Elantra? It might be worth checking out!

The car and dealer have been disappointing, particularly in regards to finding parts. However, I am confident in my ability to locate the necessary parts despite the dealer's lack of assistance.

Hi there! I hope you're doing well. I wanted to share my experience with my car. I bought it back in February of '02 from a Chevy dealership during GM's acquisition of DaewooUSA. I was able to get a great deal on it and put a couple thousand down. I didn't experience any major issues until around 70,000 miles, but even then, the car was still running great. The A/C did go out on me around 50k, but that was because I accidentally broke the coolant tubes after running over something. I drove the car around for 2 more years in Florida without A/C, but it was still a reliable car. Recently, I moved to California where I don't need A/C, so it's not a problem for me anymore. The only other issue I had was with the pressure-plate for my clutch at 80k miles, but I was able to get it fixed for only $1200 (including labor). Now, the car has 100k miles and it's still going strong!

Although I loved my Daewoo and it served me well, unfortunately it was totaled in an accident when I hit a reese hitch at just 5 mph. Despite its front bumper being made of styrofoam, I am confident that it would not have fared well at higher speeds. While it was possible to repair the car, the cost would have exceeded its value, especially considering the expensive airbags that cost $3000 each and the difficulty in finding a replacement radiator. Overall, the Daewoo is a high-maintenance car that requires significant investment to keep it running.

I rented this car for a week while my Ford Focus was in the shop from an accident and took it on a vacation to Colorado. Although the seats were uncomfortable and my back was killing me the whole trip, I found that the car had a cheap build quality that seemed to work for the most part. The cruise control and A/C didn't work well, and the recirculate didn't work at all. However, on the mountains, it accelerated fairly well and the mileage was always great. The truck space was good and the fold down seats were fantastic. One thing to note is that the back seats popped out and I found out there is no cushioning in them, just hard foam and one spring.
