Chevrolet P35 problems
The Chevrolet Step-Van (and its badge-engineered counterpart, the GMC Value-Van) is a multi-stop truck made by General Motors from 1940 to 1998.
Dubl-Duti
The first generation of General Motors multi-stop delivery van was called the Dubl-Duti, introduced in 1940. The van was built on the 115-inch (2,921 mm) chassis of the Chevrolet pickup truck, with a body built by Divco Twin. The Dubl-Duti van used the same 216.5-cubic-inch (3.5 L) "Thriftmaster" six-cylinder engine as the pickup and Chevrolet passenger cars, but with a single-barrel updraft Carter carburetor rather than the downdraft Rochester unit used in other Chevrolet trucks.
The Dubl-Duti was restyled in 1941 to suit the new Chevrolet AK Series truck body. Despite the "Advance Design" trucks being released in calendar year 1947 as a 1948 model, the AK Series-based Dubl-Duti continued production for another year thereafter.
A new generation of Dubl-Duti was introduced for model year 1949, with two different wheelbases shared with the medium-duty Advance Design pickup trucks: the model 3742 with 125+1⁄4-inch (3,181 mm) wheelbase, and 137-inch (3,480 mm) log model 3942 . The "Thriftmaster" engine was carried over for the 1949 and 1950 model years, and replaced for 1951 by the 235.5-cubic-inch (3.9 L) "Loadmaster" engine. The Dubl-Duti ceased production in 1955.

Common Chevrolet P35 problems
Common Problems with Chevrolet P35 Cars
The Chevrolet P35 is a series of vans and trucks produced by General Motors. While these vehicles are generally reliable, they can experience certain issues over time. Here are some common problems with Chevrolet P35 cars based on complaints from owners:
- Idle Air Control Valve Problem (OBD Code 35)
The Idle Air Control Valve (IAC) is responsible for maintaining the correct engine idle speed. When the IAC is not functioning correctly, it can cause the engine to idle too high or too low, or even stall. This issue is indicated by OBD trouble code 35, which is a common problem in Chevrolet P35 cars.
The IAC can become faulty due to deposits on the throttle body or the IAC air passages. In some cases, the IAC itself may be faulty and require replacement. This issue can affect the vehicle's drivability and may cause safety concerns, especially if the engine stalls unexpectedly.
- Keyfob Battery Replacement
Another common problem with Chevrolet P35 cars is related to the keyfob. Some owners have reported that the keyfob does not work, and the battery needs to be replaced. This issue is indicated by code 35 for the Chevrolet Spark, which is not related to the IAC problem mentioned above.
- Suspension Issues
Chevrolet P35 cars, especially those used for heavy-duty applications, may experience suspension issues over time. The suspension system is responsible for supporting the vehicle's weight and providing a smooth ride. When the suspension system is weakened or aging, it may not be able to handle the weight, causing the vehicle to sag or under-sprung, affecting its ability to handle, haul, or tow.
To address this issue, heavy-duty coil springs can be installed to add extra support for the aging and weakened suspension systems. These coil springs help absorb extreme weights for a smooth ride at maximum capacity.
- Engine Hours Reading
Some owners of Chevrolet P35 cars have reported that the engine hours reading is higher than expected. This issue can be caused by various factors, such as excessive idling or extended periods of engine operation.
While this issue may not affect the vehicle's performance or safety, it is essential to monitor the engine hours to ensure that the vehicle is not being overused or abused.
In conclusion, Chevrolet P35 cars can experience common problems such as IAC issues, keyfob battery replacement, suspension issues, and high engine hours reading. Regular maintenance and timely repairs can help prevent these issues and ensure the vehicle's longevity and safety.
