Bmw 745i problems
The fourth generation of the BMW 7 Series consists of the BMW E65 and BMW E66 luxury cars. The E65/E66 was produced from 2001 to 2008 and is often collectively referred to as the E65. The E65 replaced the E38 7 Series and was produced with petrol and turbo-diesel straight-six and V8 engines, along with a petrol V12 flagship model.
The E65 was the first BMW vehicle to include the iDrive infotainment system and the exterior styling (overseen by Chris Bangle) marked a significant departure from traditional BMW styling. Other new features included active anti-roll bars, a six-speed automatic transmission, an electronic Smart Key (dispensing with the traditional metallic key), and night vision. The 760i model also utilised the world's first production V12 engine to use direct injection.
In late 2008, the E65 7 Series was replaced by the F01 7 Series.

Common Bmw 745i problems
The BMW 745i is a luxury sedan produced by BMW from 2002 to 2005. While the car is generally considered reliable, there are some common problems that owners have reported.
One of the most common issues with the BMW 745i is the peeling of various interior trim parts. This problem has been reported by 47 owners, making it the most frequently reported issue. The exact cause of this problem is not specified, but it may be due to poor quality materials or improper installation.
Another common problem with the BMW 745i is the loss of steering control. This issue has been reported by owners of the 2003 model year, which is considered the least reliable year for the BMW 745i. The problem is likely due to worn control arms or a faulty steering system, which can cause the car to pull to the side.
The 2003 model year of the BMW 745i is also known for having cooling system, engine, and steering defects, which is why it is recommended to avoid this year model when purchasing a used BMW 745i.
In addition to these specific issues, the BMW 745i can also experience common problems that affect many other vehicles. For example, the engine may stutter or misfire, which can be caused by a faulty fuel pump or a leak in the oil filter gasket.
The front and side cameras may produce blurry images, which is a known issue with the BMW 7 Series. This problem is not yet resolved, and it may be necessary to wait for BMW to release an upgraded version of the cameras.
Finally, the remote key of the BMW 745i may no longer unlock or lock the doors, which can be caused by a faulty Body Domain Controller Unit. This problem can be resolved by ordering a new key fob or replacing the faulty unit.
In summary, the BMW 745i is generally considered a reliable luxury sedan, but there are some common problems that owners have reported. These include peeling interior trim parts, loss of steering control, cooling system, engine, and steering defects, engine stutter or misfire, parking brake disengagement, blurry cameras, and remote access malfunction. It is recommended to avoid the 2003 model year of the BMW 745i due to its known defects.

- Model: Bmw 745i 2005
- Report Received Date: 2012-10-17
- Manufacturer: BMW of North America, LLC
- Components: POWER TRAIN:AUTOMATIC TRANSMISSION
- Summary: BMW is recalling certain model year 2005-2008 7-Series vehicles, equipped with the Comfort Access option, and manufactured August 23, 2004, through July 24, 2008. The affected vehicles have an electronic key and an electronic connection between the gear shifter and the transmission (shift-by-wire) that automatically shifts the transmission to Park when the driver presses the Start/Stop button to shutdown the engine. If the driver presses the engine Start/Stop button 2 or 3 times within a short time interval, the system may shift the transmission to Neutral rather than Park. If using the electronic key (Comfort Access mode), there would be no protection from the ignition interlock that prevents key removal if the vehicle is not in Park.
- Consequence: If the driver exits the vehicle with the transmission in Neutral and the parking brake is not applied, the vehicle may rollaway. Unattended rollaway incidents often result in a crash or cause injury to pedestrians attempting to stop or enter the vehicle or to other bystanders in the path of the vehicle.
- Remedy: BMW will notify owners beginning in November 2012. The remedy became available in March 2013. Owners may call BMW at 1-800-525-7417 or email BMW at [email protected].
