Common Audi A4 allroad problems

The Audi A4 Allroad, a luxury car known for its reliability and owner satisfaction, has been reported to have several engine-related problems by real owners. The most common issue is excessive oil usage, which affects nearly every A4 model. This problem is often caused by a failed crankshaft seal or a weak piston ring, leading to oil loss. The 2.0-liter Audi four-cylinder engine is particularly prone to this issue. The rear main seal, located where the engine meets the transmission, is another common contributor to excessive oil usage in Audi A4s.

Another significant problem is engine failure, which is the second-worst-rated problem in certain Audi models. This issue is often caused by timing tensioner failure, which can result in catastrophic internal damage to the engine. The average repair cost for engine failure in the Audi A4 is $8,500, and it typically occurs around 66,000 miles.

Bad piston rings are another engine-related problem that can hinder the reliability of the Audi A4. This issue is less common but extremely costly, often requiring a complete engine replacement due to damage to both the piston and engine block. The 2012 Audi A4 has been reported to have this problem, which occurs at an average mileage of around 48,000 miles and costs around $8,500 to fix.

In addition to engine-related problems, the Audi A4 Allroad has also been reported to have issues with airbags and seatbelt tensioners. There have been two recalls related to airbags, one due to a manufacturing error that could prevent both the airbags and seatbelt tensioners from working correctly in a collision, and the other due to the passenger airbag being loose in certain A4s. Speak to an Audi dealer if your car is affected, as it will need to be inspected and repaired.

The Audi A4 Allroad's shock absorber forks can also be a problem, particularly in some A4s manufactured between 26 February 2019 and 14 March 2019. A problem with the casting process of the shock absorber forks could lead to their failure, requiring replacement to prevent future issues.

The locking mechanism for the hinged towing bracket (if equipped with a tow bar) could also be faulty in some A4s constructed from 2 December 2015 to 17 December 2018. If affected, it will need to be inspected by a dealer and replaced if necessary.

Despite these issues, the Audi A4 Allroad is still considered a generally reliable vehicle, with an impressively-low number of owner-reported complaints. However, certain model years, such as the 2009 and 2011 A4s, have been reported to have more expensive problems earlier in their lifespan than most.

    Vehicle year: 2023

It's a shame that the car drives so well and is extremely quiet, but unfortunately, the entire experience is ruined by a buggy infotainment system. The system takes 2-5 minutes to initialize, the navigation entry is worse than first-generation GPS circa 1990, and the results are not in order of distance. Additionally, the system never returns consistent results, has delayed button push, and completely forgets voice commands. It's disappointing that Audi put this out on the market. I'm only 3 months in and already looking to trade it in.

  2. Quinton Hagenes 2024-01-07

    Vehicle year: 2023

I did a test drive and unfortunately, it did not leave a good impression on me. The interior materials, especially on the doors, were not the best and had a lot of hard touch plastic. Even the sound of closing the door did not feel very solid. While I understand that it may not be a fair comparison, I have seen more solid interiors from the latest Honda products. In my opinion, BMW could improve on the solidity and quality of their interior materials to match their sleek exterior design.

  4. Kevin Lockman 2024-08-23

    Vehicle year: 2023

At just 51,000k, unfortunately, the steering rack started making a ratcheting noise. However, the dealership was kind enough to replace it out of warranty. Although it was a very expensive repair, the customer did not have to pay the full cost, which was a relief given the premature failure.

  5. Sigmund Mante 2024-08-12

    Vehicle year: 2023

It would be great if Audi could create a model with the PDK transmission, the 350 6-cylinder engine, and no wind noise at freeway speed. Unfortunately, the RS4 Avant is not available in the US, but a more powerful Allroad with PDK transmission and quiet would be a great alternative. To ensure optimal performance, consider purchasing Michelin Super Sports for the summer and a second set of one-inch smaller winter wheels with Bridgestone Blizzack LM 1000 winter tires. With these modifications, you can have the perfect IC car.
