The Mercedes-Benz W205 is the fourth generation of the Mercedes-Benz C-Class which was produced by Daimler AG between 2014 and 2021. The W205 C-Class was preceded by the W204 C-Class and superseded by the W206 C-Class. The fourth-generation C-Class was available in sedan (W205), station wagon/estate (S205), coupe (C205), cabriolet (A205) and long-wheelbase sedan (V205) body styles.

The W205 was the first vehicle to use the all-new Modular Rear Architecture (MRA) platform. The new structure is significantly lighter, using aluminum extensively throughout the body, resulting in a 100 kg (220 lb) weight decrease. According to Mercedes-Benz, the structure is much more rigid than other vehicles in its class.

Development and launch

The car was officially unveiled on 16 December 2013 and debuted at the 2014 North American International Auto Show. W205 production commenced on 4 February 2014 at the Bremen plant. European sales began in March 2014, while the vehicle went on sale in North America in September 2014, and in South Africa in March 2015.

As the Mercedes-Benz CLA-Class (released in April 2013) took the mantle of being the new entry-level sedan in Mercedes' line up of cars, Mercedes decided to make the W205 C-Class larger than its predecessor and more like the W222 S-Class, thus making it a "mini-S-Class".

The W205 included Sport and Luxury trims with 241 hp (180 kW) 2.0-liter turbocharged I4 engine and 329 hp (245 kW) 3.0-liter bi-turbo V6 engine options. Mercedes all-wheel drive 4MATIC is standard across the initial offering. The car is about 3.7 inches (94 mm) longer and 1.7 inches (43 mm) wider than the W204.

Based on the new modular MRA rear-wheel drive platform, it features front axle four-link and rear axle five-link suspension.

Common Mercedes-benz Amg c43 problems

The Mercedes-Benz AMG C43 has been reported to have several common problems based on complaints from owners. A transmission specialist may be required to accurately diagnose and fix the issue.

Another problem reported is related to the wiring harnesses in the transmission and ground connections for the electrical wiring harnesses, which may not be secured properly.

In addition, some owners have reported issues with the speed limit recognition, where the car will automatically reduce its speed when adaptive cruise control is switched on, even when the speed limit has not changed. This can be frustrating and potentially dangerous, especially when driving on highways or freeways.

Lastly, the C43 is known to have high maintenance costs, which may deter some potential buyers.

In summary, the Mercedes-Benz AMG C43 has several common problems, including transmission issues, wiring harness problems, speed limit recognition issues, and high maintenance costs. It is recommended to get a PPI and stay up-to-date with regular maintenance to ensure the longevity and reliability of the vehicle.

Is the AMG C43 a good car?

It doesn't have the same punch as the even more powerful C63 model, but the C43 represents a big step up in performance from the standard Benz-branded C300 sedan. The C43's suspension tune is aggressive, with a ride that's stiff, but a rear-wheel steering system and adaptive dampers all contribute to the car's agility.

How expensive is a C43 AMG to maintain?

The annual maintenance cost of a Mercedes-Benz C43 AMG is $802. Repair and maintenance costs vary depending on age, mileage, location and shop.

How much does it cost to fill up a C43 AMG?

Compare Side-by-Side

2020 Mercedes-Benz AMG C43 4matic
Annual Fuel Cost*$3,100
Cost to Drive 25 Miles$5.16
Cost to Fill the Tank$79
Tank Size17.4 gallons

Is the C43 V6 reliable?

From what I can tell, C43 seems to be pretty reliable with no major issues. Maybe some front diff leak from AWD but that seems to be common across all. As always, for used vehicles, always get a pre-purchase inspection (PPI) and check the carfax.
