Gmc C3500hd problems
The fourth generation of the C/K series is a range of trucks that was manufactured by General Motors. Marketed by the Chevrolet and GMC brands from the 1988 to the 2002 model years, this is the final generation of the C/K model line. In a branding change, GMC adopted the GMC Sierra nameplate for all its full-size pickup trucks, leaving the C/K nomenclature exclusive to Chevrolet.
Internally codenamed the GMT400 platform, GM did not give the model line a word moniker (e.g., "Rounded-Line series" for its predecessor). After its production, the model line would informally become known by the public as the "OBS" (Old Body Style), in reference to its GMT800 successor. In starting a different tradition, the model line overlapped production with both its predecessor and successor; the model line again shared body commonality with GM medium-duty commercial trucks.
Over nearly a 14-year production run, the fourth-generation C/K was assembled by GM in multiple facilities in the United States, Canada, and Mexico. After the 2000 model year, the fourth-generation C/K was discontinued and was replaced by the GMT800 platform (introduced for 1999); the C3500HD heavy-duty chassis cab model remained in production through 2002. In line with the GMC Sierra, Chevrolet subsequently adopted a singular Chevrolet Silverado nameplate for its full-size truck line (which remains in use).

Common Gmc C3500hd problems
GMC C3500HD owners have reported several common problems with their vehicles, ranging from transmission issues to recalls related to safety standards.
Transmission problems are a significant concern for GMC C3500HD owners. One common issue is related to the solenoid diagnostic trouble codes (DTCs) in the 6L90E transmission, which can lead to a variety of transmission-related issues. To address these problems, owners have three main solutions: buying a used transmission, buying a rebuilt transmission, or buying a remanufactured transmission. Each solution has its advantages and disadvantages, and the best option depends on the specific circumstances and needs of the owner.
In terms of recalls, the GMC C3500HD has had issues related to tire and loading information labels. One recall from 2005 affected certain trucks and sport utility vehicles that failed to conform to Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standard No. 110, "Tire Selection and Rims." These vehicles were shipped with inaccurate vehicle capacity weight labels, which could lead to overloading and other safety issues.
The GMC C3500HD has also had issues with the parking brake. In 2005, certain pickup trucks equipped with manual transmissions and built with either PBR parking brake systems or TRW parking brake systems were recalled due to the potential for the parking brake friction linings to wear to an extent where the parking brake could become ineffective in immobilizing a parked vehicle.
Finally, the GMC C3500HD has had issues with the seat belts, particularly the 2nd row center occupant seat belt routing. This issue can make it difficult to position the lap portion of the safety belt low around the hips of occupants, especially smaller occupants, seated in this position. Proper use of a child seat or booster seat can improve the fit condition for this user group, but the suggested seat belt fit/routing for adults, regardless of seating position, is also described in the owner's manual.
In summary, GMC C3500HD owners have reported several common problems related to transmission issues, recalls related to safety standards, parking brake effectiveness, and seat belt routing. These issues can impact the safety, reliability, and overall satisfaction of GMC C3500HD owners, and it is essential to address them promptly and effectively to ensure the best possible ownership experience.

- Summary: I HAVE A 96 GMC 3500 WITH STALLING PROBLEMS. I ALMOST HAVE BEEN IN TWO ACCIDENTS WITH THIS PROBLEM. ONCE WAS WHEN THE STALL HAPPENED DURING A INTERSECTION AT A HIGHWAY. THE OTHER IN A PARKING LOT, I ALMOST HIT A PERSON AND TRUCK, BECAUSE WHEN THE ENGINE STALLS I LOOSE ALL BRAKES AND ALL STEERING. I AM TOLD IT IS THE PMD, I AM GOING TO GO AND SPEND $400 TOMORROW AND RELOCATE THE PMD. I WAS TOLD BY A GM DEALER IF THERE WAS A CODE TO GO BY IT POSSIBLY WOULD BE A WARRANTY ITEM. I HAVE SPENT $270 ALREADY FOR THEM TO TELL ME THAT. I THINK THAT GM NEED TO CORRECT THE PROBLEM AND STOP BEING SO CARELESS WITH PEOPLES LIVES. *JB
