Dodge Quad problems
The Dodge Ram SRT-10 is a sport pickup truck produced by Dodge, based on the standard Ram 1500, with only 10,046 units built. It was introduced as a concept at the January 2002 North American International Auto Show, while the production model was introduced in 2003 as a 2004 model year.
Development
The Dodge Ram SRT was created by DaimlerChrysler's PVO (Performance Vehicle Operations) division, using Dodge Viper and Plymouth Prowler engineers. Extensive wind tunnel testing was used in styling the exterior of the Ram SRT-10. This is the second time that Dodge has put a Viper engine into a Ram pickup. At the 1996 Chicago Auto Show, Dodge introduced a concept Dodge Ram with a Viper Generation 2 engine, but it was not put into production. The Dodge Ram VTS was painted Banzai Blue with dual white skunk stripes, housed an 8.0 L (488 cid) V10, a six-speed Borg-Warner manual gearbox, and 17 in (432 mm) Viper GTS wheels wrapped in BF Goodrich 275/60-HR17 Comp T/A HR4 tires.
Overview
The SRT-10 featured a Chrysler 8.3 liter V10 that was first used in the third generation Viper. This engine produced 500 bhp (373 kW; 507 PS) at 5,600 rpm and 525 lb⋅ft (712 N⋅m) of torque at 4,200 rpm. The regular cab, with a total curb weight of 5,130 lb (2,327 kg), reached a top speed of 154 mph (248 km/h), and could accelerate from 0 to 60 mph (97 km/h) in 4.9 seconds, whereas the Quad Cab, weighing 5,618 lb (2,548 kg), achieved 0-60 mph (97 km/h) in 5.3 seconds and reached a top speed of 147 mph (237 km/h). The regular cab could complete the 1⁄4 mi (400 m) in 13.6 seconds at 106 mph (171 km/h), the Quad Cab in 13.7 seconds at 100 mph (161 km/h). The engine produced one horsepower for every 10.3 lbs of vehicle weight in the regular cab. The regular cab generated .86 g of grip on a 300 ft (91 m) skidpad, while the Quad Cab generated .83 g. The regular cab was rated by the EPA at 9 MPG city/15 highway, while the Quad Cab was rated at 9 city/12 MPG highway.

Common Dodge Quad problems
The Dodge Ram 1500, now known as the RAM pickup, is a popular full-size pickup truck with its own set of common problems. These issues can affect the safety, reliability, and overall ownership experience of the vehicle. Here are some of the most common problems with Dodge Ram 1500 trucks, based on complaints from owners:
- Engine Problems: Some Dodge Ram 1500 models, particularly those with the 3.7L V6 engine and the 4.7L V8 engine, are prone to faulty exhaust manifold bolts. Replacing the exhaust manifold gaskets can fix this issue, but it's essential to address it promptly, as broken bolts can lead to exhaust leaks and reduced performance. Additionally, some models may experience coolant leaks due to issues with the water pump, thermostat gasket, or intake manifold gasket. These leaks can cause the engine to overheat, potentially leading to more severe problems.
- Body Structure Issues: Dodge Ram 1500 owners have reported various body structure problems, including faulty lock mechanisms, defective paint jobs, rust buildup, and bumper holes drilled too large. These issues can affect the truck's appearance, functionality, and overall durability.
- Transmission Issues: Transmission problems are common in Dodge Ram 1500 trucks, with some models experiencing issues such as the transmission getting stuck in 4th gear. This issue can be caused by faulty transmission solenoids, shift censor selinoids, or other electrical problems. Replacing the faulty components can often fix the issue, but it may require a diagnostic check to identify the root cause.
- Defective TRW Crash Sensors: In certain RAM 1500 trucks, defective TRW crash sensors can affect the airbag control unit (ACU), potentially disabling airbag deployment in the event of a crash. This issue is a significant safety concern and can affect the truck's overall reliability and safety.
- Oil Sludge Problems: Some Dodge vehicles, including the RAM 1500, have been reported to have oil sludge problems. This issue can cause thick, oily sludge to clog the passageways in the cylinder block, leading to oil starvation for various moving parts and potentially causing engine failure if left unattended.
- Death Wobble: The "death wobble" is a well-known issue in Dodge Ram trucks, characterized by a violent shaking of the front end while driving at high speeds. This issue can be caused by various factors, including worn-out steering components, misaligned wheels, or damaged suspension components. Addressing the root cause is crucial to prevent this potentially dangerous issue.
In summary, Dodge Ram 1500 trucks have several common problems that can affect their safety, reliability, and overall ownership experience. These issues include TIPM malfunctions, engine problems, body structure issues, transmission problems, defective TRW crash sensors, oil sludge problems, and the "death wobble." Regular maintenance and addressing these issues promptly can help ensure a safer and more reliable driving experience.
What is the difference between a Dodge Club and quad cab?
In general automotive parlance, a club cab refers to any two-door truck with an extended cab. Club cabs might also be referred to as Extended Cab, Super Cab, King Cab, or Double Cab, depending on the manufacturer. A quad cab is a truck with an extended cab, two front doors, and two smaller doors in the rear.
What's the difference between quad and crew cab Dodge?
Crew cabs generally have shorter truck beds, ranging from five to 6.5 feet. Quad cabs, with their smaller rear seating areas, have longer truck beds, typically between 6.5 to eight feet. If you require a truck with a larger cargo area for hauling equipment or materials, a quad cab may be the better choice.
Does Dodge still make a quad cab?
Two cab configurations are available: quad cab or crew cab. Both include four doors and a back seat, but the quad cab has less rear legroom. Crew cabs come with a short bed (5 feet 7 inches) or a long bed (6 feet 4 inches), while all quad cabs have the long bed.
What is the difference between mega cab and quad cab?
The Mega Cab's length is approximately equal to that of the Quad Cab with a long body. Extra-long body versions of the pickup truck are scarce and almost impossible to purchase and find. A Mega Cab allows transforming the rear seat into a perfectly flat bed measuring 63x51 inches.

- Summary: SHORTLY AFTER PURCHASING THE TRUCK, THE DASHBOARD DEVELOPED A SMALL CRACK; WITHIN A WEEK, THE DASH BEGAN TO CRACK FROM ONE SIDE TO THE OTHER. I INITIALLY TRIED TO PUT A PIECE OF FABRIC TAPE OVER THE LARGER CRACK, BUT THE DASH HAS CONTINUED TO SHATTER INTO SHARP SHARDS, AND PIECES OF THE INSULATION ARE NOW DROPPING OUT IN LARGE CHUNKS. THIS MORNING, WHEN I STARTED THE DEFROSTER, A PIECE OF THE DASHBOARD FLEW OUT & CUT MY FOREHEAD ABOVE THE RIGHT EYE. I HAVE OWNED AT LEAST A DOZEN VEHICLES IN MY LIFE AND I HAVE NEVER HAD A PROBLEM LIKE THIS WITH THE DASH. ON ONE OTHER VEHICLE I OWNED, ALTHOUGH THERE WAS A SMALL CRACK IN THE DASH, THE PLASTIC WAS SECURED TO A FOAM MATERIAL THAT WAS PART OF THE DASH COMPONENT. WITH THIS TRUCK, THE DASH IS DISINTEGRATING: VENTS ARE DROPPING DOWN THROUGH THE DASH, SHARDS FROM THE SHATTERED DASH ARE FALLING THROUGH & INTO THE FAN, CHUNKS OF BLACK INSULATION ARE FALLING OUT ALMOST DAILY. I BELIEVE THAT DODGE HAS KNOWN ABOUT THE DEFECT FOR QUITE SOME TIME AND HAS FAILED TO ACT IN A RESPONSIBLE MANNER TO CORRECT THE KNOWN DEFECT. IN A COLLISION, THE DASHBOARD CAN CAUSE SIGNIFICANT INJURY TO A PERSON BY CAUSING LACERATIONS FROM THE BRITTLE PLASTIC THAT WAS USED TO COVER THE DASHBOARDS. WITH THE RATE OF DETERIORATION, THE INTEGRITY AND STABILITY OF THE DASH & THE COMPONENTS IT HOUSES HAS BEEN COMPROMISED. I FEAR THAT THE AIRBAG COULD DEPLOY UNEXPECTEDLY DUE TO THE INSTABILITY OF THE DASH. *TR

- Summary: I PURCHASED A DODGE RAM 1500 IN NOVEMBER OF 1999 FROM A CHARLESTON SC DEALERSHIP. IN 1993 THE DASH BEGAN TO START CRACKING AND WHEN WE SHOWED IT TO THE DEALER THEY SAID THAT IT WAS NOT THERE RESPONSIBILITY AND THAT IT WOULD COST $1000.00 TO REPLACE IT. AFTER COMPLAINING TO DODGE THE REPAIRS WHERE DONE AT NO COST TO ME. AFTER A FEW SHORT MONTHS LATER WE MOVED TO CRESTVIEW FL WHERE MORE CRACK STARTED FORMING UNTIL THE POINT THAT WE HAD 5 THAT FORMED FORM ABOVE THE CONSOLE DISPLAY AND THE PASSENGER AIRBAG. DUE TO MY CONCERNS THAT THE BAG WOULD CAUSE THE DASH TO BREAK APART AND CAUSE FLYING DABRIE IF DEPLOYED I REPLACED THE DASH THIS TIME AT THE COST OF OVER $2000.00. AFTER GET IT BACK THE FRONT SPEAKERS NO LONGER WORK. I HAVE RESEARCHED THIS PROBLEM AND HAVE FOUND THAT HUNDREDS OF OTHER DODGE CUSTOMERS ARE HAVING THE SAME PROBLEMS AND EVEN SOME ARE HAVING HUGE CHUNKS CAVE IN TO THE DASH AND WIRING THAT IS CLIPPED AND OR MELTED FROM THE EXPOSED SUNLIGHT. *TR

- Summary: DEFECTS IN MANUFACTURER DASHBOARD CREATION PROCESS MAY LEAD DASHBOARD TO FAIL BY WAY OF CRACKING AND EROSION. THIS FAILURE OF THE 97-02 DODGE RAM DOES NOT ALLOW FOR SUFFICIENT IMPACT RESISTANCE IN A FRONTAL ACCIDENT AND MAY CAUSE FAILURES OF THE AIRBAG SYSTEM DUE TO PIECES OF THE BROKEN DASH INTERFERING WITH SUPPLEMENTAL RESTRAINT SYSTEMS HOUSED WITHIN THE DASHBOARD. THIS MAY ALSO CAUSE THE SUPPLEMENTAL RESTRAINT SYSTEM TO FAIL TO DEPLOY DUE TO DASHBOARD SUPPORT BEING ERODED AWAY. CRACKING AND BREAKAGE OF DASHBOARD MAY ALSO CAUSE ELECTRICAL FIRES AND FAILURES IF SHARP DASHBOARD PIECES DISLODGE AND FALL INTO THE WIRING HARNESS, CUTTING WIRES AND SHORTING THEM OUT. EVENTS LEADING UP TO FAILURE: NONE - SEEMS TO OCCUR ON THE GREATER MAJORITY OF ALL 97-02 DODGE RAM PICKUP TRUCKS, EITHER GARAGED OR NOT AND DASHBOARDS COVERED OR NOT.
