Buick Envista problems
The Buick Envista is a compact crossover SUV manufactured by General Motors and marketed under the Buick brand since 2022. It shares the GM VSS-F platform with the Chevrolet Trax (marketed as the Seeker in China).
Unveiled for the Chinese market in August 2022, GM introduced the Envista in April 2023 in the United States and Canada. The Envista is manufactured in Changwon, South Korea by GM Korea and in China by SAIC-GM.
Overview
In China, the Envista is equipped with the GM small gasoline engine (LYX), a turbocharged 1.5-liter gasoline straight-four engine that produces 181 horsepower (135 kW) and 183 pound-feet (248 N⋅m) of torque paired with a continuously variable transmission.
In the North American market, the Envista is powered by the GM E-Turbo engine (LIH), a turbocharged 1.2-liter gasoline straight-three engine rated at 136 horsepower (101 kW) and 162 pound-feet (220 N⋅m) of torque mated to a six-speed automatic transmission. The Envista is offered in three trim levels: Preferred, Sport Touring (ST) and Avenir, each with front-wheel drive.
Front suspension uses McPherson struts and rear suspension uses a compound crank semi-independent twist beam (or torsion beam) rear suspension with a Watts linkage standard on the Avenir trim and available on ST.
The interior of the Envista features a single panel combining an 8-inch screen for driver instruments and an 11-inch infotainment screen. Wireless Android Auto and Apple CarPlay are offered, as well as over-the-air updates and a surround-sound audio system. The front door panels and dashboard feature stitched elements, and the Avenir and ST trim levels feature embroidered head restraints logos.
Black 18-inch alloy wheels are standard on the ST trim, with 19-inch wheels available. Bright gray 19-inch alloy wheels are standard on the Avenir.
The Envista has an EPA listed passenger volume of 97.5 cu ft (2.76 m3) and maximum cargo volume of 20.7 cu ft (0.59 m3) behind the rear seat and 42 cu ft (1.2 m3) with the rear seat folded.

Buick Envista 2024
- Date Of Incident: 2024-08-10
- Date Complaint: 2024-10-25
- VIN: KL47LCE23RB
- Components: SUSPENSION
- Summary: The rear suspension is not able to handle passengers in the back seat. Passengers in the back seat experience pain in the lower back on even small bumps in the road. It seems as though the rear springs are inadequate to keep the shocks from bottoming out and causing pain to the passengers. On a 5-hour drive, my adult son experienced so much pain from the ride that he took two days off work to recover. I took the vehicle for service and asked them to look at it. The service writer at the dealer told me it is a known problem that they cannot fix without a recall on the rear springs.

- Date Complaint: 2024-10-20
- VIN: KL47LBE29RB
- Components: ELECTRICAL SYSTEM
- Summary: Three times in the last week while driving, my electronic dashboard went completely black and the music playing stopped. Within 10 seconds it came back up but my phone was disconnected and the system had to be reprogrammed. It was frightening as I was not sure what was happening and had no way of seeing whether my car was in drive and drivable. There was a safety recall last year for this issue. My VIN was not included.

- Date Of Incident: 2024-10-01
- Date Complaint: 2024-10-16
- VIN: KL47LAE2XRB
- Components: EXTERIOR LIGHTING
- Summary: I picked up my new lease on 9/23/24. I don't understand why the rear taillights at the hatch level don't also work as turn indicators/brake lights. I learned that there is a set of lights on the lower half of the rear end, closer to the fascia. Once I was following another Buick Envista and I was amazed at how low those lights are. On another occasion when I was using the adaptive cruise control, I almost caused an accident because the driver behind me apparently did not see any brake lights in their "usual" position.

- VIN: KL47LAE28RB
- Components: ELECTRICAL SYSTEM,EXTERIOR LIGHTING,UNKNOWN OR OTHER
- Summary: On Friday, September 13, 2024, without warning, the instrument panel that shows the speed of the car (and left and right turn signals), turned off and went black (blank), while I was driving my brand new Buick, Envista. It was less than three months old at the time. The car’s mileage was at about 1,000 miles. I did not know what speed my car was going, other than by watching cars around me. I did not know if the car’s turn signals were working. I did not know if the car’s brake lights were working. I did not know if traffic behind me would know if I was coming to a stop or planning a turn. VERY SCARY!!!! I was so worried about a possible traffic accident occurring if none of the car’s turn signals and/or brake signals weren’t working. My wife was so scared she didn’t want to ride in the car any more! I called onstar and they ran a diagnostic check of the car, while the screen was black, but they found nothing wrong. I printed the onstar report and brought it to the dealer. I drove the car to the dealer on Monday, Sept 16 so they could diagnose the problem. They could not duplicate the instance as shown on their ticket number, BUCS508706. Buick customer service assigned a case number and advised driving the car to the dealer immediately should this black/Blank screen happen again so they can see the problem while the car is still running.
Buick Envista 2024
- Date Of Incident: 2024-08-28
- Date Complaint: 2024-09-03
- VIN: KL47LBE29RB
- Components: SERVICE BRAKES
- Summary: While sitting at a stoplight, my vehicle began chiming along with the following symbols illuminated on the dash: Brake System Warning Light, Antilock Brake System (ABS), Malfunction Indicator Lamp, Electronic Stability Control (ESC). I also received the following warning messages: "Brake System Failure Max Speed 62 mph," "Service Stabilitrak," & "Steering Assist Reduced." When the stoplight turned green, I accelerated at a low speed to get through the intersection so I could safely pull over. When I hit the brakes, I had to jam the brake pedal as far as it would go repeatedly to get the vehicle to stop rolling and eventually stop. It felt as though my brakes went out, and every time I pressed the brake pedal it made a weird popping/air sound inside of the vehicle. I cautiously drove my vehicle at 5-10mph, 4 miles to my sister's home, and every stop sign/stopped car or stoplight I encountered I had to start braking 1/2 a block before because my vehicle didn't feel like it was going to stop. I called the service department at the dealership where I purchased the car 1.5 weeks before, and they provided me with GM's roadside assistance contact to have my car towed. My car was towed to the dealer, 45 miles away that night, and Thursday, 8/29, morning, the service department called me and said that they couldn't find anything wrong with my car - all of the warning lights and messages were no longer on, and the brakes were working as normal. Today is 9/3, and my vehicle is still at the service department as they try to get it to mimic what happened to me on 8/28.

Hi there! We were on the hunt for a commuter car that would give us good mileage in the 20k range. Unfortunately, we weren't too thrilled with the options available... but then the dealer showed us the Envista! It's a pretty amazing car and just what we needed. It's comfortable enough for our needs, although we do call it a 'two hour car' because of the seating position and small seats. Our only complaint is that the engineers decided it didn't need a rear window wiper due to the airflow. While sustained driving at 50 mph does clean it, it's not so great for knocking around town in the rain or first thing in the morning. I mean, if we can have a backup camera, why not a rear window wiper? Thanks for listening!

This car checks all the boxes on my list. It's sleek and attractive, has good MPG, low payments, and includes a lot of features that usually come with higher-end luxury cars. You really can't beat it right now!

I love my Buick! However, it was unfortunately broken into by some Ninjas back in October, resulting in a broken passenger window. I went to the dealer for a window replacement, and they directed me to Safelite. While the window is still on order as of today, I understand that it was not their fault. It's just a shame that the parts aren't readily available. I haven't been able to fully enjoy my new vehicle due to this setback.

I purchased a 2024 Envista in August and unfortunately, the windows on my driver side began to malfunction within a few days. Despite my efforts, the windows have not yet been repaired as of November. I have been experiencing difficulty with both the dealer and GM, who have been unhelpful in resolving the issue. I paid a total of $31K for the vehicle and I am disappointed to see that the value of the preferred model is only in the low 20's. However, I am confident that a resolution can be reached and I will continue to pursue it until the matter is resolved.

Hey there! I just had to share my thoughts on this car, even though I've never written a car review before. I was looking for a smaller car with better gas mileage than my 4Runner Offroad Premium, since I had a lot of commuting to do. This car seemed like a great option with some nice features at a reasonable price. However, after driving it for a while, I have to say that I would gladly take my 4Runner back, even with all the commuting. Many people talk about the luxury features like heated seats, heated steering wheel, wireless charger, large display screen, and sporty look, but don't be fooled by them. The wireless charger is inconsistent and slow, and I've had issues with the display not connecting to CarPlay. None of these features are worth it. The car is advertised as efficient at 28 city/32 highway, but after driving it for about 7000 miles, I'm only averaging 30.7 mpg, which is disappointing for a car this size. I've also had issues with the fuel range indicator. However, to be fair, the engine is described as fine and it's only after spending time with it that you realize its limitations. This transmission is probably the worst I've ever driven. Shifting from low to high is terrible and it's pretty common to feel a lurch if you need to floor it as the car catches up to your foot on the pedal. The heads up collision warning system is very sensitive, which could be a good thing, but I find Buick's system to be downright annoying. I have yet to figure out what conditions are triggering it, but it's pretty common for it to come up at times when you have plenty of time to brake. I've even had it beep at me when going into a corner on a narrower street when a car is parked against a curb. Additionally, for a sedan, I feel this car really lacks space. Despite the hatchback, the trunk is pretty limited. Don't expect to be able to put more than two suitcases back there, and with the aggressive slope of the back windshield, the amount of space to stack things is also limited. Granted, you're not buying a sedan if you think you are going to have significant cargo needs. But still, I have been surprised by how small the Envista feels. The price tag is undeniable. There simply aren't a lot of cars coming in around $25k now, and if that is your budget and it can't wait, this car will be fine. However, I do think that in including some of the so-called luxury features, Buick went a bit too far going the cheap route to keep the total cost down. I've also noticed some things in the interior are not assembled flush, such as where the plastic on the shifter meets rubber. A lot of the hype around this car has been that the features included standard and how they make an otherwise average car worth it. I disagree. There's nothing about this car that suggests you should spend your money on it.

I really like the modern and up-to-date style of this car, and it's priced very well. While driving, it feels like you're in a small car, which can be fun. The car looks great, and the copper color on the ST model is particularly sharp. However, there are some downsides. At low speeds, the transmission shifts a lot and isn't very smooth. Additionally, there's quite a bit of tire and wind noise inside the car, which can be distracting. While the car isn't a luxury vehicle, it does have some nice safety features and good visibility. Unfortunately, the radio isn't very clear and the dashboard isn't well-lit, which can make it difficult to see. Overall, I'm a bit disappointed with this car, but I'm still deciding whether to keep it or not.
