Bmw M340i problems
The seventh generation of the BMW 3 Series range consists of the BMW G20 (sedan version) and BMW G21 (wagon version, marketed as 'Touring') compact executive cars. The G20/G21 has been in production since mid-October 2018 with a facelift in July 2022 and is often collectively referred to as the G20.
The M340i, one of the first models in the range, became available for sale in the spring of 2019, with the 330e plug-in hybrid model scheduled for launch in 2020. The 3 Series Gran Turismo fastback body style was discontinued for the G20 generation.
For the G20 generation, BMW has begun production in Mexico for various world markets including the US, replacing the Rosslyn plant in South Africa where the previous F30 generation vehicles were assembled.

Common Bmw M340i problems
The BMW M340i and M340i xDrive are popular models, but they are not without their issues. One common problem reported by owners is related to the electronics, specifically the parking sensors and the My BMW App integration. The parking sensors can sometimes detect ghosts or false positives, causing unnecessary alerts. The My BMW App integration and login process can also occasionally desynchronize, requiring users to log in again.
Another issue reported by owners is related to the B58 engine, which is known for being an absolute beast and providing excellent performance. However, some owners have experienced issues with the fuel efficiency, particularly in Comfort mode, where it can return respectable figures but can drastically change in Sports + mode. Additionally, the engine's performance can be affected by the weight of the car and the driving conditions, such as the presence of additional passengers or the use of air conditioning.
The M340i's infotainment system has also been a source of frustration for some owners. The system can be overly sensitive to gestures, causing songs to change, fast forward, or stop completely when the driver or passengers wave their hands while talking. This can be particularly annoying for passengers who like to wave their hands while talking.
Finally, some owners have reported issues with the paint quality of the M340i. Despite taking minimal care of the car, the paint can still lose its shine after just a few years. However, other owners have reported that the paint quality is excellent and has maintained its shine even after several years of use.
In summary, while the BMW M340i and M340i xDrive are popular models, they are not without their issues. Electronics problems, engine performance issues, infotainment system sensitivity, and paint quality are all areas where owners have reported problems. However, many owners still appreciate the excellent performance and handling of the M340i, and view these issues as minor inconveniences in an otherwise excellent car.
