How many miles per gallon does a Saturn Vue hybrid get?

25/32 mpg city/highway

The Vue Hybrid felt like driving any other car, but my test car's gas engine rarely shut off when I drove it, which was odd since it's supposed to whenever you're idling at a stoplight. I got a combined 26.1 mpg in my week in the Vue Hybrid; it gets an EPA-estimated 25/32 mpg city/highway.

  • Date Of Incident: 2023-04-29
  • Date Complaint: 2023-06-05
  • VIN: 3GSCL53779S
  • Components: POWER TRAIN
  • Summary: I have only 68,329 miles. My transmission lost reverse. When first driving it will only go up to 10 mph and over time the maximum speed is 30 to 40 mph. Even if it gets to this speed it hesitates. The car is a danger and not drive able. I took the car to a GM dealer requesting a Policy Evaluation according to the Service Bulletin Warranty. The evaluation showed GM will not help me with any repairs or replacement of transmission. A car should not have a major component fail like a transmission especially with such low mileage. It is expected to have maintenance and repairs on a vehicle. What is not expected or normal servicing is transmission repair or replacement. It was estimated from the GM dealerships Policy Evaluation it will cost $5,500 to replace the transmission. My car is in great shape other than the transmission failure. I love my car and anticipated to have this car many years. This is an unaffordable repair and essentially makes this a throw away car. I feel extremely disappointed in GM's decision to not remedy this major problem.

  • Date Of Incident: 2021-08-20
  • Date Complaint: 2021-08-29
  • VIN: 3GSDL43N49S
  • Components: UNKNOWN OR OTHER
  • Summary: Vehicle is a Saturn Vue XE, 3.5 liter AWD, ~84,000 miles. Problem Statement: Extensive corrosion of the subframe located at the midpoint of the vehicle on the driver and passenger sides. This is NOT surface rust - the frame corrosion has resulted in sections of the frame rotting through, severely compromising the structural integrity of the frame and safety of the vehicle. I have documented at least 6 formal complaints for the same problem from various websites, including some with front end and engine mounts cross members literally rotting away. My vehicle is only 12 years old and has only 7000 miles average miles per year but will not pass a safety inspection in Massachusetts due to the extensive rust through. The NHTSA has several corrosion related service bulletins documented involving several General Motors vehicle models but they only call out surface corrosion. The NHTSA needs to investigate FRAME RUST THROUGH on Saturn Vue and other GM vehicles as OWNERS ARE HIGHLY UNLIKELY TO REALIZE THE LOOMING SAFETY HAZARD if they have no other reason to inspect underneath the vehicle.

  • VIN: 3GSCL33P69S
  • Components: POWER TRAIN,ELECTRICAL SYSTEM,AIR BAGS
  • Summary: WHILE I AM DRIVING I HAVE HAD INTERMITTENT INCIDENTS THAT CANNOT BE REPLICATED. "STABILITRAK" WARNING LIGHT HAS NOT TURNED OFF. I HAVE LOST CONTROL OF MY VEHICLE WHILE DRIVING TWICE BUT WAS ABLE TO PULL OVER AFTER A FEW SECONDS. THE VEHICLE WILL LOSE POWER TO THE DASH. WHEN I AM TURNING THE STEERING WHEEL GETS VERY HARD TO TURN AND WILL TURN OFF THE RADIO. THIS WILL CAUSE THE CAR TO LOOSE POWER WHILE DRIVING. THEN WHEN I TURN THE CAR OFF I WILL BE UNABLE TO GET THE KEY OUT OR TURN THE VEHICLE ON. I WILL HAVE TO RESTART THE VEHICLE. I HAVE REPLACED THE BATTERY TWICE AND THE ALTERNATOR TWICE AND THIS HELPED FOR 2 MONTHS THEN THE PROBLEM PERSISTED. I ALSO REPLACED THE WHEEL SENSORS TO NO AVAIL. I HAVE TAKEN TO 3 MECHANICS BUT THEY CANNOT REPLICATE THE ISSUE. WHEN THE VEHICLE IS IN PARK, I WILL TRY TO TURN THE VEHICLE ON AND THEN JUST TAP ON THE BRAIN COMPARTMENT ABOVE THE BATTERY AND SOMETIMES THIS WORKS. I HAVE BEEN LEFT STRANDED MORE THAN I CARE TO ADMIT. WHILE DRIVING IF THE ISSUES ARE REALLY BAD AND IF I HAVE TO DRIVE LONG DISTANCE I WILL TRY TO USE CRUISE CONTROLL BUT IT WILL NOT ENGAGE.

GAVE ME A WORK-AROUND: MOVE AUTOMATIC GEAR TO M (MANUAL) THEN PUSH UP HARD TO P (PARK.). THE KEY COULD THEN BE REMOVED. THIS POSES A SAFETY ISSUE IF WORK-AROUND WAS NOT KNOWN. THERE'S A DANGER TO LEAVING THE CAR, UNABLE TO LOCK IT AND RUNNING THE BATTERY DOWN. IF THE CAR HAD BEEN IN A CRASH WITH THE NEED TO IMMEDIATELY LEAVE THE VEHICLE, THERE WOULD BE A RISK TO PASSENGERS, NEARBY PEDESTRIANS, OTHER DRIVERS AND PROPERTY. Latest negative Saturn Vue hybrid car reviews

  1. Mekhi Schinner 2025-02-13

    Vehicle year: 2009

The Vue I purchased started experiencing issues such as rough idle and no start after only 4 weeks. Despite bringing it to the shop, the problem remains unresolved and I have been driving a loaner car that is not in great condition. Unfortunately, this has been a very unreliable car and I would advise potential buyers to stay away. It is concerning that Saturn/GM has not taken any additional steps to address the situation, simply citing the initial purchase warranty. As a confident consumer, I will be looking elsewhere for my next vehicle.

I've had to make 4 trips to the dealership to address the fuel economy issue, even though my car has only done 16K miles. It's disappointing that a hybrid car like mine can't get more than 18 MPG in the city. I've noticed that the Ford Escape, which uses Toyota's hybrid technology, gets 30 MPG (my neighbor has one). Perhaps this is because GM's hybrid technology is faulty, or maybe it's because my car is only a mild hybrid and not a full hybrid or plug-in as I expected.

We purchased this vehicle just 2 days ago and so far everything seems fine. However, we recently discovered that there is a recall on the battery, which unfortunately no one informed us about. We are a bit disappointed that we were not made aware of this issue before purchasing the car. We understand that it will take 4-6 weeks to fix the problem, but we are hopeful that everything will be resolved soon. Despite this setback, we are still looking forward to enjoying our new SUV. Thank you for your understanding.

Hi there! I wanted to share my experience with my 2008 Vue Hybrid that I bought back in September of 2008. Overall, I think it's a nice car with great trims and style. However, I have encountered a couple of issues that stand out to me. Firstly, there are no roof racks available for the Vue Hybrid, and the only option from Thule costs a whopping $500 and requires custom installation. Secondly, I've been averaging 23.3 MPG, which is not the best, even though I drive a little fast and often in a city MPG mode. Even on long highway trips, I still average the same mileage, which is just not worth it. Additionally, there are some drawbacks such as no AWD, which is bad in winter/rain, transmission vibrations in cold start weather, and lack of pickup by 4cyl. All that being said, I did try a US car, but I'm going back to foreign cars.

The 2009 green-line hybrid VUE has proven to be a disappointing purchase. Despite owning the car for less than six months, the hybrid battery system has already been replaced twice. The first failure occurred just 90 days after purchase, and now the second failure has happened only 80 days after the first. The car's mileage has been a mere 18-20 in the city and 24 on the highway. Based on my experience, I would not recommend buying this car.

I bought this vehicle in January 2009 and drove 3500 miles during a three-week trip from Ohio to Florida without any issues. The base model comes with many extras, and the five-point chrome rims are a nice touch. The exterior looks great, and the styling makes this vehicle very attractive. So far, I am happy with the vehicle, and I have no major complaints except for the lower wattage stereo in the hybrid models. I have driven several rental cars with the same radio, and they have all outperformed the version in the hybrid.

I researched hybrids for months but couldn't find the Mazda Tribute/Ford Escape hybrid I was looking for, so I ended up buying a Vue instead. I find the Vue's seats to be very comfortable, with firm seating and great back support. The driver's seat has 8-way adjustments and support, which is perfect for both me (5'6'') and my husband (6'2''). The Vue is also very quiet, has a smooth ride, and the controls are conveniently located. I was able to find the perfect spot on the dash for my beanbag GPS mounting unit, and we easily located my EZ-Pass transmitter so that it's out of sight. The gas mileage has been good, and given the current gas prices, I feel like this was the smartest purchase I could have made. I drove a Tribute AWD for almost 5 years and liked it, but I have to say that the Vue is much better!

I have had my vue for 5 months and it's been a great experience driving it. If you're single like me, it's definitely a head-turner. People love the design and the burgundy color looks just great. I would highly recommend it!

I'm so glad I did my research before purchasing my first Saturn and hybrid vehicle. The Vue Hybrid has exceeded all of my expectations! As someone who was born and raised in Germany, I really appreciate the smart and practical 'European' interior design. The exterior is also stunning and definitely catches the eye. I've been getting outstanding mileage so far, with 1900+ miles driven on only 3 1/2 18-gallon tanks of gas! Even in stop-and-go city driving, I'm getting 25-28 MPG, and on the highway, I'm getting 38-40 MPG. With cruise control engaged at 65 MPH, I can easily top 42 MPG on level roads. Well done, GM!

  5. Hipolito Gaylord 2024-11-27

I'm glad to hear that you're enjoying your VUE! It sounds like you're getting some great mileage out of it, which is impressive for a vehicle of its size. Compared to other hybrids on the market, it seems like a really good deal. I hope that GM considers extending this BAS technology to other vehicles in their line in the future.
