The Nissan Titan is a full-size pickup truck manufactured in the United States for the North American market by Nissan. It was named after the Titans of Greek mythology.

First generation (A60; 2003)

Development of the Titan began in September 1999, with design work under Diane Allen. Giovanny Arroba's TA60 exterior was chosen in late 2000, with a final production freeze in July 2001. The design language of the future truck was previewed by the 2001 Alpha T concept shown at the 2001 North American International Auto Show, which had previously developed through November 2000.

Production began on September 21, 2003, and sales on December 1, 2003. The Titan used Nissan's new full-size F-Alpha platform. This new platform was shared with the Nissan Armada and Infiniti QX56 SUVs, with all three manufactured in Canton, Mississippi, United States. The first generation Titan continued without a major redesign through 2015.

Common Nissan Titan xd problems

Based on the complaints from owners of Nissan Titan XD cars, here are some common problems associated with these vehicles:

  • EGR System Problems:
    • The Exhaust Gas Recirculation (EGR) system in Nissan Titan XD trucks is prone to issues like carbon buildup in the EGR valve and cracks in the EGR cooler. These problems can result in engine misfires, rough idling, and performance issues. While a recall was issued for the EGR cooler in certain model years, the EGR valve problems were not formally addressed by Nissan, leading to out-of-pocket expenses for owners.
  • Fuel System Malfunctions:
    • The electric fuel pump in the Titan XD with the 5.0L Cummins engine is a known failure point, often causing issues like engine misfires and rough idling. The pump's inability to filter out contaminants leads to internal damage and eventual failure. Replacing faulty fuel system components can be costly, with dealer fixes often proving ineffective, necessitating multiple replacements within a short mileage span.

These problems highlight significant reliability issues with the Nissan Titan XD, particularly related to the transmission, EGR system, and fuel system. Owners have faced challenges and expenses due to these recurring issues, impacting the performance and longevity of their vehicles.

I've been a fan of Chevys and Fords for years, but I have to say, my new Titan has won me over. Firstly, the XD with the 5.6 and 9-speed combo compares really well to the Chevy 1500 LTZ with the 6.2 and 10-speed auto, but for far less money (a $25,000 difference!). Secondly, it comes with all the safety features you need without having to upgrade to a far more expensive model. Thirdly, it has a 6.5-foot bed as standard. Fourthly, it comes with a 5-year, 100,000-mile warranty, which is a few grand more than the other guys! I could go on and on, but do yourself a favor and give Nissan a look before spending your hard-earned money. You may be surprised!

I have the midnight edition of the Titan XD diesel (white with the black trim). It's a real head-turner on the road. It's a shame that Nissan stopped making diesels. I've always been a fan of diesels and the Cummins engine on this truck is just fantastic. I drive 100 miles a day and the truck feels incredibly solid and sturdy on the highway. What I also love about the truck is that it's slightly bigger than the average RAM 1500, Ford F-150 and the Silverado. When I pull up next to one of them at a traffic light, they can't help but wonder what my truck really is! The interior is spacious and comfortable for a family of 5. The seats are great too for highway driving. Towing is a breeze with this beast. My only disappointment is that the fuel tank is only 26 gallons. Nissan should definitely consider the 32 gallon tanks for future trucks. If you're not interested in fancy electronic features and just need a reliable workhorse, this is the BEST truck that you can buy.

I purchased my '18 5.6 SV 4x4 brand new in February 2019 as a leftover model. As a long-time Nissan customer (9 vehicles and counting, including a regular 06 Titan), I was already familiar with the manufacturer's product. While I don't use the truck as my daily driver, I do use it frequently for projects around my property. Although I could have made do with the regular Titan, I was able to purchase this one for several thousand dollars less than any of the others available within 300 miles. The truck has more than enough power to tow or haul, as long as you stay within the limits specified by Nissan. I've towed the same 8k trailer behind this and an F-150, and I would choose the Nissan every time! With a nearly indestructible spray-in bedliner, Utilitrack cleats, and LED under rail lighting, there isn't much you can't haul without any real worries. The elevated load height of the bed is slightly cumbersome, but it's a fair trade for the increased payload capacity. Although the ride can be a bit stiff and jittery over rough pavement, it's still tolerable given the Hello! I hope you're doing well. I wanted to share my experience with Nissan vehicles. In my personal experience, I have never had any issues with the paint quality of my previous Nissan vehicles. However, I did encounter a minor issue with my current truck. I believe this is a rare exception to Nissan's normally high standards. I am a bit more particular about the appearance of my vehicle than most people, so I will be taking it to a professional to have it detailed and apply a ceramic coating. Overall, I highly recommend considering Nissan if you're in the market for a new truck. While it may not compete with the usual domestic heavy duty versions, it was designed to haul and tow in a more stable fashion than half ton trucks, and it does this very well. Additionally, the S and SV trims are a great value. Thank you for taking the time to read my thoughts!

Americans sure do love their traditions, and their trucks! It can be tough for newcomers to get a fair chance, but the Nissan Titan XD proves that it's possible. Recently, I had the pleasure of towing a new Jayco 27 foot trailer over 2,200 miles across the USA with a new Platinum Reserve, and I have to say, the Titan XD was flawless. It was powerful, comfortable, stable as a rock, and looked great too! While some media outlets may give it average ratings, the reality is that this truck does everything I need it to without any fuss or complaint. It's put together like a Swiss watch and easily rivals, if not surpasses, its American competitors. And let's be honest, with the exorbitant costs involved, that's what really matters. But hey, call me an untraditional American, I'm fine with it. In my opinion, this truck is a stellar investment.
