G70 is the internal designation for the seventh generation of the BMW 7 Series, a range of luxury cars produced by the German luxury vehicle manufacturer BMW since July 2022.

Introduced in April 2022, 7 Series and i7 are the respective designations for BMW's internal combustion and battery electric full-size luxury flagship models. BMW had unveiled the model on 20 April 2022 during the nameplate's 45th anniversary. Sold as a 2023 model, it is longer than its predecessor model. This model offers petrol and diesel models, come standard with a 48-volt mild hybrid powertrain; a plug-in hybrid system is available. Additionally, this model is also the first 7 Series offer a mild hybrid powertrain. The seventh-generation BMW 7 Series is often collectively referred to as the G70.

The G70 commenced production on 1 July 2022, exactly seven years after the previous model. The i7 is the first 7 Series to offer a fully electric powertrain, which shares powertrains with the smaller G60 i5. Both 7 Series and i7 offer optional rear- or all-wheel drive drivetrains. The V12 model is no longer offered, instead gets replaced by the M760e plug-in hybrid.

Common Bmw 760i problems

The BMW 760i has been reported to have several common problems based on complaints from its owners. One of the most significant issues is related to the software update, as reported in a forum post. The owner of a 2023 BMW 760i experienced a total inoperability of the vehicle after a software upgrade intended to add New Year welcome graphics and other needed upgrades. The car became unresponsive within 10-20 minutes of the update, with the battery having no charge at all. The mechanic at the dealership was unable to open the doors, hood, or trunk upon arrival, leaving the owner stranded and without a solution for over a month.

Another issue reported is related to the airbag deployment failure in 2023 BMW 7-Series and i7 models. The recall notice issued by BMW of North America revealed that select 760i xDrive and i7 xDrive60 models were built with front passenger seat electronic control unit software that could be faulty. This issue may not recognize the seat position, triggering a failsafe mode and preventing the front passenger airbag, knee airbag, and active headrest from deploying in the event of a crash. This recall involves a total of 305 BMW 760i xDrive models and 92 BMW i7 xDrive60 models.

The BMW Interaction Bar has also been a source of problems, prompting a recall for a handful of 740is, 760is, and i7s of the xDrive60 variety. The rear-driven 740i weighs a staggering 4,720 pounds despite packing a six-pot rather than a V12. The latter engine isn't even available, with the G70 being topped by a 4.4-liter V8. Funnily enough, the S68 engine is an M design rather than a regular engine. Still, zero to 60 miles per hour is the specialty of the i7 M70 xDrive. Not available to configure at press time, this fellow is coming to a dealership near you for the 2024 model year with 650 horsepower and 811 pound-feet (1,100 Nm) on BMW quotes 3.7 seconds to 100 kph, which means 3.5 seconds to 60 mph. The Munich-based automaker became aware of these issues back in January 2023, following a complaint filed in South Korea. The US market followed suit with two further complaints on March 8 and March 9, respectively. This worrying trend didn't go unnoticed, with BMW initiating an engineering review. Everything from the software version to vehicle build configurations was analyzed. Come June 2023, the German automaker discovered that undervoltage conditions may lead to the issues presented earlier. Said problems go against no fewer than three federal motor vehicle safety standards, namely 101 for controls and displays, 103 for windshield defrosting and defogging systems, as well as 108 for lamps and reflective devices. A grand total of 384 vehicles are potentially affected stateside, full-size luxobarges produced for the 2023 model year at the Dingolfing assembly plant in Germany. Both the internal combustion-engined 7 Series and i7 are called back. Supplied by Czech Republic-based Valeo Autoklimatizace k.s., the suspect interaction bars were fitted to i7 xDrive60 vehicles assembled between September 2, 2022 and September 15, 2022. As for the 7 Series, make that 740i and 760i xDrive sedans made between September 6, 2022 and September 15, 2022. The recalled interaction bars are listed with four part numbers in the report attached below. Said report says that owners will be informed of the recall no later than September 1. Dealers have already been instructed to replace the interaction bars at no cost to the owners.

Lastly, the 760 Li's engine reliability has been questioned, with concerns about fuel pumps, chains, and coils, similar to the Mercedes-Benz S600's coil issues. While there is no specific information about the 760 Li's engine problems, it is essential to consider these potential issues when purchasing a used vehicle.
