Acura Crosstour problems

The Honda Crosstour (initially branded the Accord Crosstour) is a mid-size crossover SUV with a sloping rear roofline manufactured by Japanese automaker Honda. It is based on the North American eighth-generation Accord. Sales began in November 2009 for the 2010 model year, and the vehicle was discontinued after the 2015 model year due to slow sales.

Design

The Crosstour was marketed as a "hatchback"/"wagon" variation of the Accord and shared the same platform. The Crosstour was powered by a 3.5-liter V6 engine (choice of either front-wheel or all-wheel drive) or 2.4-liter 4-cylinder engine (front-wheel drive only), with prices that started at $29,670, above those of the Accord sedan (which started at under $23,000). For the 2012 model year, Honda removed the "Accord" prefix, making the name just "Crosstour", and gave its front grille a restyle. A four-cylinder engine for front-wheel drive models was released in late 2011 and put on sale in early 2012.

The Crosstour was a direct competitor to the Toyota Venza, a crossover wagon based upon the Accord's perennial competitor, the Camry. And like the Venza, which was meant to replace the Camry wagon, the Crosstour was considered a successor to the Accord wagon.

In terms of positioning, the Crosstour slotted between the compact CR-V and fullsize Pilot in Honda's crossover SUV lineup, Compared to the Pilot, the Crosstour was longer but had two rows of seating compared to the Pilot's three and had approximately 50 cubic feet less interior space.

The Crosstour was sold in the United States, Canada, Mexico, China, Middle East, Southeast Asia and Russia. Guangqi Honda built and marketed the Crosstour in China.

Common Acura Crosstour problems

The Acura Crosstour is a car that has been noted for several common problems by its owners. One of the most frequently reported issues is the "big plastic snout" or the front-end design, which many people find unappealing. This design is intended to minimize front-end pedestrian collisions, but it has been criticized for its appearance.

Another common problem with the Acura Crosstour is the lack of HID (High-Intensity Discharge) headlights. This is a feature that is often requested by owners, but it is not available as standard equipment on the Crosstour. Some owners have attempted to retrofit HIDs to the stock lenses, but this can be difficult due to the optics of the headlights.

Tire quality is another issue that has been reported by Crosstour owners. Honda/Acura has a tendency to put real cheap tires on as OEMs, and the Crosstour is no exception. The Michelins used on the Crosstour are probably pretty good, but they may not last as long as higher-quality tires. It is recommended that owners plan ahead to put on high-rated UHPAS rubber, like Continental's ExtremeContact DWS or Bridgestone 960 Pole Positions, to improve the longevity and performance of the tires.

The Crosstour has also been criticized for its lack of storage space. The ZDX, which is based on the same platform, has only 4 cubic feet of storage, which is barely enough for a platinum credit card and a gallon of milk. This can be a problem for owners who need to carry larger items.

In addition to these issues, the Crosstour has also had several recalls related to airbags. In 2015, Honda recalled certain model year 2015 Crosstour 4 Cylinder vehicles due to an incorrectly manufactured inflator tube for the side curtain air bag. These recalls were necessary to ensure the safety of the vehicles and their occupants.

In terms of reliability, the 2012 Honda Crosstour has been rated as average by Consumer Reports, with several owner comments describing problems with the steering and suspension system, including shocks or struts, ball joints, tie rods, wheel bearings, alignment, steering linkage, power steering, wheel balance, springs or torsion bars, bushings, and electronic or air suspension. These issues can affect the overall driving experience and may require costly repairs.

In conclusion, the Acura Crosstour is a car that has been noted for several common problems by its owners, including the front-end design, lack of HID headlights, tire quality, and lack of storage space. Additionally, the Crosstour has had several recalls related to airbags, and its reliability has been rated as average by Consumer Reports. These issues should be taken into consideration when purchasing or owning a Crosstour.
